• Only 5 simultaneously users with PPTP VPN?

  we have a windows 2008 R2 standard server which job is to accept incoming VPN connections via PPTP. it seems to work fine, but the moment the 6th user try to connect, we get the following error: ERROR_VPN_DISCONNECT 807 The network connection between your computer and the VPN server was interrupted. This can be caused by a problem in the VPN transmission and is commonly the result of internet latency or simply that your VPN server has reached capacity. where do we find out how to increase the amount of simultaneously users?, I read somewhere that we can have over 100 connected clients at the same time, when I created this server, I did the following : Network & sharing - Network adapters - File - new incoming connections now I tried to choose and create users here, but we have a domain controller which seems to override this, so the domain users works after this I was able to connect atleast 5 clients... how and where do I increase the "capacity"?

• Accessing to shared folders with OpenVPN

  This is my first attempt to configure a vpn so I have very little knowledge about this. Network where centos server is having local IPs 192.168.123.* Network where windows machine is having local IPs 192.168.1.* I installed and configured my openpvn server on centos 5 and client on a windows machine. Generated all keys, certificates e.t.c and transferred them to client and I'm able to connect to server. Below there is a screenshot of the client log. Also on server side I can also see incoming packets with this command tcpdump -n port 1723 So I assume I did most of the things correct. But still when I try to open shared folders using \\192.168.123.33 or \\network-name I can't access folders

• When connected to VPN through Windows 7 running under OS X via VMWare Fusion, does traffic from the OS X side go through the VPN?

  I only have a rudimentary knowledge of VPNs. My understanding is that, in most network configurations, when a client is connected remotely to a VPN server, all network traffic passes through the VPN server before going to the client, and all data coming from the client passes through the VPN server before going out over the wider Internet. I run Windows 7 using VMWare Fusion under OS X Lion. If I access a web page in Safari, say, on the OS X side of things, does that traffic pass through the VPN server? Or does it bypass it because the two OS's are regarded as separate network devices by my LAN? I would appreciate any insight anyone can provide. Thanks.

• Why does my ethernet connection keep re-connecting, only with Windows?

  I'm using Windows 7, and I have several computers on my network. For some reason, the network connection keeps disconnecting and immediately re-connecting. Infact, it may just be refreshing the DHCP lease... but I'm not sure. I've tried changing the network card, and ethernet cable, but the issue is still happening. I can only imagine that the issue is with the ethernet switch, but this doesn't happen on my other desktop which uses the same ethernet switch. Any ideas?

• Problem with Lenovo x200s Wifi under Ubutu Karmic

  Hi, I have just gotten my Lenovo X200s laptop, and I am install Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic on it. The installation went through without a hitch, but I can't get my wifi to work. lspci | grep Network Produces the following results: 00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82567LM Gigabit Network Connection (rev 03) 03:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. • Zentyal Server : Setting up secure VPN Client

  I have officially exhausted pretty much all my google-fu trying to set this up so I'm asking my question here. For the record, I am a mid level rookie who has played around with servers in his spare time but have never worked with Zentyal Server. Now, I have been able to set up the server as a gateway, with one Network card being external and the other facing the internal Network. The Internal network computers are able to access the internet without any issues. What I need to do is to setup a open-vpn client on the central server so that all Internet data goes though the secure VPN session. As far as I can see, I can't set up the vpn session through the web admin page. Could somebody point me in the right direction? How would I go about doing this? Regards Shreyas

  I would like to install a Lync 2013 server at home. What would be the minimum requirements for it? I've seen the requirements and they seem pretty hefty, just want to know what I need for a basic set up. This will be for up to 5 users. I would like users to be able to connect from outside the network as well. From what I've been able to find, it looks like I'll need 3 servers. A domain controller, a lync front end server, and an edge server (for external connectivity, and it will need 2 network cards). Is that really all necessary? And how would they need to be connected (I've never connected a machine with multiple network cards)? Do they all have to be separate machines, or can I use VMs?

• Gigabit connection between 2 computers

  I am trying to set up a connection between 2 pc's. It's a direct cable connection. The problem that I am having is that the connection isn't gigabit. I know both network cards support gigabit. I checked in the device settings and in one pc I can see in the Speed & Duplex the 1Gbps option but on the other pc I can't see that option despite the fact that the network card is gigabit. I have quite some files to copy from one pc onto another and I really need a good connection between them. I can't really remove the hard drive because it would void the warranty. Could this be a driver issue or a cable issue? On both pc's I have windows 8. The network card on the pc that doesn't have the 1 gbps option is an Atheros ar8161 card.

(the internet goes through the phone by tethering) I want to use ssh to connect to the computer (from a different computer in the same network), but I am not able to access the computer. My setup is the following: I have an android phone connected to a computer through the usb cable tethering internet from the phone, I wanted to ssh into the computer behind the android phone from another computer in the same network as the android phone. This was not possible, because the android phone creates a separate network for the connected computer, effectively shielding it from any incoming signals. It turned out to be quite simple to fix by just using iptables.

  I have a CentOS server configured as a PPTP VPN Server. The client is a Windows 7 with "Use default gateway on remote network" in advanced TCP/IPv4 properties enable. He can connect to CentOS without any problem and can access to: The Box of his ISP (http://192.168.1.254/) The CentOS server The website which is hosted by the server (through http://) But he canNOT access any other web service (google.com or 74.125.230.224) I am a beginner with web servers so I do not know what can cause this problem.   I am using the RasDial function on a Windows box (Windows Server 2008) to dial a device from which the server then reads data. It seems that some new routes are added to the network routing table when the dial-up connection is made. That interferes with other network interfaces on the server. In particular, RasDial adds a default route which routes traffic to the device, which makes the server unreachable until the connection is dropped. Is there a way to control which routes are added by RasDial? I have been studying Microsoft's document for RasDial and associated items (RASDIALPARAMS, RASDIALEXTENSIONS) without finding anything about routing. There is an option for "Use default gateway on remote network" when configuring a VPN, but I don't see how to apply that in this case. Thanks for any light you can shed on this problem.

  Hi, What I want is to connect 2 computers (work and personal) primary for using a software KVM (Input Director or Synergy). Transferring files between them would be a plus. The main issue is that the work computer is in a secured enterprise network, and my personal computer is using a 3G+ modem for Internet access. On the work computer I do not have Internet access (only local network). I want to somehow connect them without to mess up either networks. • AR9485 wireless card loses ability to connect after hibernation

  This has happened twice now, the first time it happened I just reinstalled Ubuntu. The only things that I've been messing with in terms of networking, have been restarting the network-manager service after I resume from hibernate (because it never works right after resume, but restarting the service fixes that), and changing my mac address with ifconfig wlan0 down && ifconfig wlan0 hw ether 11:22:33:44:55 && ifconfig wlan0 up. using tail | dmesg returns a bunch of attempts to connect, saying something like authenticating ... okay you're connected! now I'm going to just disconnect because I feel like it. (reason=3). Any ideas? If it helps maybe I'll add a picture of the tail|dmesg output later. My wireless drivers are as follows: Atheros AR9485 Wireless Network Adapter Hamachi Network Interface Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter Here is a pastebin of some terminal outputs that could help. Also, the reddit thread has a few answers, for anyone curious. It's located here. It is entirely possible that it's just my school wifi blocking out my laptop, and my home wifi sucks.   I am running an Ubuntu guest machine through my Windows 7 host machine (with Virtualbox), and on the Ubuntu system running an application that uses port 6969. Through configuring the Virtualbox port forwarding settings I have made it possible that I can go to 127.0.0.1:6969 in my browser and see the application's default page. However, I'm wondering how I can port forward from my Windows 7 machine to the whole network. My local network (IPv4) address is 192.168.0.5. I want to be able to go to 192.168.0.5:6969 from any computer on the network and see the application. I've searched Google but can only seem to find solutions in Linux, not Windows. How can I do this?

• Can't connect to Wireless

  Good day all! I hope you are doing good. I have performed a WUBI installation of 12.04 on my HP G62 laptop, which has an Atheros AR9285 wireless chipset. Everything works fine with my wired network connection. However, wireless is unable to connect to my wifi network. I enter the WPA2 key and then it attemps to connect, but eventually comes back, asking for the WPA2 key again, as if it was not good. All of the other laptops in the household are able to connect, using the same key (I configured them all, so I am 500% sure of the WPA2 key). Any idea as to what could be causing this? I can definitely post the output of CLI commands like "rfkill list" or "sudo lshw -class network", or "ifconfig". I have installed Ubuntu a few time but I am definitely still a newbie, but I am definitely computer savyy. Looking forward to suggestions . Thanks in advance !!! Dan...

• Wired connection periodically disconnects requires ipconfig /release and /renew to reconnect

  I just got back into University and after a day of using the internet I suddenly was unable to visit other webpages even though I was still able to chat. I restarted the computer and the internet could no longer visit webpages at all. I got a DNS error from the browser (chrome) and the troubleshooter. The connection comes up as "Network 3" even though It was "Network 2" when it worked. I compared ipconfig /all logs and they seemed identical when it was and was not working. I've found two ways to get internet connection (they no longer work): run ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew several times set a random address and have the troubleshooter fix the new found dhcp problem (before it says dns cannot fix). I checked and it said DHCP was enabled. But either step one or two usually needs to be repeated several times before the network will change back to "network 2" from the defunct "network 3" and after an hour or so I have problems again. I've tried: Uninstalling windows defender and turning off firewall (windows firewall). Updating Qualcomm Ethernet driver - it is up to date. System Restore (problem resurfaces quickly...it's possible this has something to do with windows update?) Flushing dns and setting dns myself (google one and others). Booting in safe mode with networking...didn't fix anything Reinstalling Ethernet Driver Using other ethernet cable, other wall port. I'm out of ideas. Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected. By the way, Operating System: Windows 7 - 64 Bit. Have downloaded latest windows updates. Update: And my two fixes don't work any more :( .   Hi, There are a number of questions about this and a number of possible causes and thus far ive tried them all with no success. situation: i have an app that needs a db to work, onstartup it does a SmoApplication.EnumAvailableSqlServers(false) to get all the instances on the network, shows the user a dropdown, they pick one and i go connect to my db on that server. all good problem: this works on my machine, the guys next to me and others. HOWEVER it doesnt work on one of the tech guys machines (and potentially others). we are all on the same network domain, physically connected (no wireless), all logged on with network user names, all running the same sql express 2005 sp3, though im using win7 the other guys are running xppro. MSSMS on all machines can see all the instances when you select "Browse for more". yet on this one tech guys machine it lists his local instance (since its hardcoded to) and all the network servers, but has no instances names? i.e. .sqlexpress server1 server2 server3 server4 but on my machine and others we get: .sqlexpress server1/sqlexpress server2/sqlexpress server3/sqlexpress server4/sqlexpress the code im using: ' .... some code ' this populates my datatable dtServers = SmoApplication.EnumAvailableSqlServers(False) '.... some code '.... then later i ShowServers(...) Notes: ive tried firewall 1433, 1434 i can connect using a udl with full SERVERNAME\INSTANCENAME the browser service is running locally and on the remote machine ive tried stopping and restarting both the browser service on the local and remote machine. Ideas?

• Long pause when accessing DFS namespace

  We've recently migrated our Windows network to use DFS for shared files. DFS is working well, except for one annoying problem: users experience a significant delay when they try to access a DFS namespace that they have not accessed for some time. I have tried to troubleshoot the issue but have not had any success so far, and I was hoping someone here may have some pointers to help resolve the problem. Firstly, some background on our network: The network uses a Windows 2008 functional level Active Directory domain with two Windows 2008 DCs and two DNS servers (one on each of the DCs). The network is DNS only - no WINS. All computers are located at the same site and connected by Gigabit Ethernet. We have approximately 20 Domain-based DFS namespaces in Windows 2008 mode, and each DFS namespace has two Windows 2008 DFS namespace servers (the same two servers for all namespaces). All namespace servers are in FQDN mode and all folder targets are specified using their FQDN. All computers are up-to-date with Service Packs and patches. The actual folder targets (i.e. the SMB shares our DFS folders point to) are scattered across several file and application servers, all running Windows 2008 bar two application servers which run Windows 2003 R2, with no replication setup at all (e.g. all DFS folders currently only have one folder target). Some more detail on the problem: The namespace access delay is generally 1 - 10 seconds long and seems to occur when a particular computer has not accessed the requested namespace for approximately five minutes or more. For example, if the user has not accessed \\domain.name\namespace1\ for more than five minutes and attempts to access \\domain.name\namespace1\ via Windows Explorer, the Explorer window will freeze for 1 - 10 seconds before finally resuming and displaying the folders that exist in \\domain.name\namespace1. If they then close the Explorer window and attempt to access \\domain.name\namespace1\ again within five minutes the contents will be displayed almost instantly - if they wait longer than five minutes it will go through the 1 - 10 second pause again. Once "inside" the namespace everything is nice and snappy, it's just the initial connection to the namespace that is slow. The browsing delays seem to affect all variants of Windows that we use (Windows 2008 x64 SP2, Windows 2003 R2 x86 SP2, Windows XP Pro x86 SP3) - it is possibly a bit worse in Windows XP / 2003 than in Windows 2008, but I'm not sure if the difference isn't just psychological. Accessing the underlying folder targets directly exhibits no delay at all - i.e. if the SMB shares pointed to by DFS are accessed directly (bypassing DFS) then there is no pause. During trouble-shooting I noticed that the "Cache duration" for all of our DFS roots is set to 300 seconds - 5 minutes. Given that this is the same amount of time required to trigger the pause I assume that this caching is somehow related, although I am unsure exactly what is cached on the client and hence what needs to be looked up again after 5 minutes have elapsed. In trying to resolve the problem I have already tried / checked the following (without success): Run dcdiag on both Domain Controllers - no problems found Done some basic DNS server checks without finding any problems - I don't know how to check the DNS servers in detail, but I would add that the network is not exhibiting any other strange behavior that may point to a DNS problem Disabled Anti-virus on clients and servers Removing one of the namespace servers from a couple of namespaces - no difference So that's where I'm up to - and I'm out of ideas. Can anyone suggest what may be causing the delays and/or what I should be trying next?

• I need a piece software to use with my HP F4280 scanner.

  So, I got this printer/scanner about a year ago, and I'm really happy with it. The only thing is that I never really liked the HP scanning software that came with it. A few months ago I reformatted and reinstalled windows 7. Then, once I plugged in the printer, I noticed that windows recognized it automatically, and offered to install all the drivers by itself. So instead of manually installing the driver that came in the CD, I simply let windows automatically install it from its servers, and so far it's great. Instead of HP's scanning software (that really wasn't pleasing me), I got a very simplified interface that is more than enough for my ocasional scanning habits. Until today. Today I had to scan a bunch of old pictures for my father. And that simple interface felt like it was lacking quite a few features to make this repetitive task a little easier. And that's why I'm now looking for a good software to use for scanning. By "good" I mean anything well thought out, and specially anything that will make my life easier when repetitive-scanning. It doesn't need to have professional tweaking options, but having them is not a problem either. You guys got anything?

• Apple Airport Express, Extreme and Time Capsules, BT Home Hub, Wireless Extenders confusion

  I post quite frequently in Stack Overflow, but use Superuser less frequently. Mainly as I don't change hardware often and rarely have software issues! I live in a small stone cottage, and have an office in a separate building across a yard. I have a BT Homehub which is located in the cottage and a series of Ethernet cables running across the yard to the office. This is fine for my wired stuff. My main office computers are PCs running Windows 7 Ultimate, and one on Win7 Home, all working fine. I also have an old laptop on Win XP which works fine wirelessly in the house for those evenings in front of the TV catching up on a bit of work. I also have an iPhone and an iPad. Recently, I have been trying to get WiFi in the office so I can use Adobe Shadow (or whatever it now is!) to improve mobile web development efficiency using my iPhone and iPad, so I bought this: http://www.ebuyer.com/393462-zyxel-wre2205-500mbps-powerline-wireless-n300-range-extender-wre2205-gb0101f Thinking that would be lovely just plugged into the socket by the door in the office, extending the perimeter of the WiFi from my Homehub. I can't get it to work properly! If I plug a laptop into its ethernet port I can get it to connect to the Homehub and give me a kinda of wired, wireless extender. If, however, I plug the ethernet port into my home hub, it then seems to extend the network, but only my iOs devices work, and all my wired stuff stops working, and seems to create an infinite loop where windows connects to my homehob, and then rather to the internet, it then connects back to the extender thing. Anyway... in the meantime, I took a fatal trip to the Apple Store, where I purchased an Airport Express... solely for the purpose of hooking my iOs devices up as wireless music players in the house. I knew it had WiFi, but didn't want to use that part as an extender, I didn't think it would work on a Homehub anyway. It doesn't work on a Homehub! I now have a new wireless network in the house, which, when anything connects to it cannot connect to the Internet, so it works ONLY as a wireless music player. I then borrowed some Powerline Adaptors from someone and realised that this whole thing was getting totally out of control! It seems all the technology is out there but it's so complicated to get the right series of devices. To further add to the confusion, I wouldn't mind a network hard drive. I bought one that broke and lost everything, so now we're on to looking at the Apple Time Capsules. So my question is... IF... I buy an Apple Time Capsule, can I: Hook that up to my Homehub, leaving the homehub connected to the Internet so my Hub phones still work, then disable wireless on the homehub Link up my Airport Express to the Time Capsule PROPERLY so it will connect to the Internet Do the above with an Apple TV box should I buy one in future Use the Time Capsule as a network hard drive to store video and music that can be viewed/listened to via my iOS devices/Apple TV/Aiport Express anywhere even with my main PC off (this currently stores all this data) Hope that the IOS devices like the WiFi from the TimeCapsule better than the Homehub and work without extension, or buy another Airport Express to get WiFI in the office. Or... should I buy an Airport Extreme and use a USB hard drive for the network drive?
