• CImg compile problems in Codegear 2009

  I wish to use the CImg library for image processing in my current project. I am using Codegear C++ Builder 2009. I include CImg.h in the source file and put in the following code: int rows =5; int cols = 5; CImg<double> img(rows,cols); I get the following error: [BCC32 Error] CImg.h(39159): E2285 Could not find a match for 'CImg<unsigned char>::move_to<t>(const CImg<unsigned char>)' Does anyone know if there is a #define I should be using when building in Codegear C++ Builder 2009. Or is it simply not compatible?

  Given the following code $c= new SoapClient('http://www.webservicex.net/CurrencyConvertor.asmx?WSDL'); $usa = "USD"; $eng = "GBP"; doing a __getTypes on the client gives me Array ( [0] => struct ConversionRate { Currency FromCurrency; Currency ToCurrency; } [1] => string Currency [2] => struct ConversionRateResponse { double ConversionRateResult; } ) if i then do $calculation = $c->ConversionRate($usa, $eng); and print calculation i get an error about Catchable fatal error: Object of class stdClass could not be converted to string Is there a specific way i should be printing this out, or i it a bug, from researching / googling many people seem to have a problem but i cant find a suitbale solution, other than downgrading php, which isnt a solution for me as i am doing this as homework and its running off of a college server

  All right so I am doing a javascript code for a login type form and it will lead you to a new page. • ASP.NET MVC, JSON & non JavaScript clients

  I need to ensure that an application I am developing is accessable and also works with JavaScript turned off. I just need a pointer to assist with the following. I had 3 'chained' select boxes and I wanted JavaScript enabled clients to have a nice Ajax experience. I can easily write the required functionality to populate the chained boxes on the change event of the preceeding select using jQuery and JSON with a WCF service. However what about the non JavaScript client? Would I wrap a submit next to the select and place these inside their own form to post back with a certain action or different querstring parameter? Can the same controller give me a partial JSON response as well as feeding the full HTML response. Can anyone point me to a good demo that utilises both JSON and normal HTTP posts to produce the same result in ASP.NET MVC. All ASP.NET MVC demo/examples I see forget about the non JavaScript enabled client.

• What effect does static const have on a namespace member

  namespace MyNamespace { static const double GasConstant = 1.987; Class MyClass { // constructors, methods, etc. }; }; I previously had GasConstant declared within the MyClass declaration (and had a separate definition in the source file since C++ does not support const initialization of non-integral types). I however need to access it from other files and also logically it seems like it should reside at the namespace level. My questions is, what effect does static const have in this case? Clearly const means I can't assign a new value to GasConstant, but what does a static member at the namespace mean. Is this similar to filescope static effect, where the member is not accessible outside of the unit?

• Non laggy movement in Flex or WPF

  I'm trying to learn something about 2D games programming. For this purpose I've downloaded many samples developed in: Flex and Microsoft WPF. I've noticed that all the animations / moving objects are kind of non-smooth. I've seen a Flex example with double buffering which solved the image flickering, but it was laggy too. WPF example too. Just to mentioned, all examples were drawing on Canvas. I'm just curious, is it possible to have a wonderful non-laggy movement on the GUI in Flash or WPF ? (e.g. like a real game, coded in C++)

• Why avoid pessimistic locking in a version control system?

  Based on a few posts I've read concerning version control, it seems people think pessimistic locking in a version control system is a bad thing. Why? I understand that it prevents one developer from submitting a change while another has the file checked out, but so what? If your code files are so big that you constantly have more than one person working on them at the same time, I submit that you should reorganize your code. Break it up into smaller functional units. Integration of concurrent code changes is a tedious and error-prone process even with the tools a good version control system provides to make it easier. I think it should be avoided if at all possible. So, why is pessimistic locking discouraged?

• How secure are GUIDs in terms of predictability?

  We're using .NET's Guid.NewGuid() to generate activation codes and API keys currently. I wonder if that poses a security problem since their algorithm is open. .NET Guid uses Win32 CoCreateGuid and I don't know it's internals (possibly MAC address + timestamp?). Can someone derive a second GUID out of the first one, or can he hit it with some smart guesses or is the randomness good enough so search space becomes too big? Generating random keys have the problem of collision, they need a double check before adding to a database. That's why we stuck with GUIDs but I'm unsure about their security for these purposes.   Are pointers on a 64-bit system still 4 byte aligned (similar to a double on a 32 bit system)? Or are they note 8 byte aligned? For example, on a 64-bit system how big is the following data structure: struct a { void* ptr; char myChar; } Would the pointer by 8 byte aligned, causing 7 bytes of padding for the character (total = 8 + 8 = 16)? Or would the pointer be 4 byte aligned (4 bytes + 4 bytes) causing 3 bytes of padding (total = 4 + 4 + 4 = 12)? Thanks, Ryan

  Hello all, I'm writing a simple scripting language on top of Java/JVM, where you can also embed Java code using the {} brackets. The problem is, how do I parse this in the grammar? I have two options: 1] Allow everything to be in it, such as: [a-z|a-Z|0-9|_|$], and go on 2] Get an extra java grammar and use that grammar to parse that small code (is it actually possible and efficient?) Since option 2] is basically a double-check since when evaluating java code it's also being checked. • Java - Could not find the main class?

  I'm having a hard-time with a Java error. I'm getting this when double-clicking on my compiled project Jar file in order to run it: Could not find the main class: testPackage.testFrame. Program will exit. However, my main class is cleary defined in the project properties. Furthermore, everything works fine when I run the project directly from NetBeans. I'm using the ip2c.jar third-party library to determine countries from IP addresses. If I comment the class that is using the ip2c.jar file, I don't get the error. How can a third-party library be preventing the JVM from finding my main class?

• Newlines not being interpreted when passed to php via the command line

  I have a PHP script that I'm invoking from another shell script that sends an automated email with a message generated from the shell script. Problem is, when I send the message all the newline characters are printed into the message. How do I get them to be interpreted? sendmail.sh: /path/to/phpscript/sendmail.php "Some Message With Newlines\nHello World.\n" sendmail.php: $message = $argv[1] . "\nNewline"; $smtp->send($to, $from, $message); The odd thing is the \n after the $argv variable is interpreted and actually prints Newline on a new line, but the newlines in the $argv variable don't, I have tried wrapping the variable in double quotes among other things but so far to no avail.

  I have fews combinations of strings that I need to bring in to one pattern, that is multiple spaces should be removed, double hyphens should be replaced with single hypen, and single space should be replaced with single hyphen. I have already tried this expression. $output = preg_replace( "/[^[:space:]a-z0-9]/e", "", $output ); $output = trim( $output ); $output = preg_replace( '/\s+/', '-', $output ); But this fails in few combinations.   Hi, I have read that viewstate is not there in asp.net MVC application. I am doing model validation. Now if i have two text boxes on my page,and i am doing required filed validation for both of them in model. This validation is done on server side on click of a button. I will fill one text box and click on submit button. It does the validation and returns the result saying second field is required. At this time value of the first text box is retained. • simple plot algorithm with autoscale

  I need to implement a simple plotting component in C#(WPF to be more precise). What i have is a collection of data samples containing time (X axis) and a value (both double types). I have a drawing canvas of a fixed size (Width x Height) and a DrawLine method/function that can draw on it. The problem I am facing now is how do I draw the plot so that it is autoscaled? In other words how do I map the samples I have to actual pixels on my Width x Height canvas?

• MySQL import in phpmyadmin (CSV) chokes on quotes

  I am trying to import a .csv file into a MySQL table via phpMyAdmin. The .csv file is separated by pipes, formated like this: data|d'ata|d'a"ta|dat"a| data|"da"ta|data|da't'a| dat'a|data|da"ta"|da'ta| The data contains quotes. I have no control over the format in which I recieve the data -- it is generated by a third party. The problem comes when there is a | followed by a double quote. I always get an "invalid field count in CSV input on line N" error. I am uploading the file from the import page, using Latin1, CSV, terminated by |, separated by ". I would like to just change the "enclosed by" character, but I keep getting "Invalid parameter for CSV import: Fields enclosed by". I have tried various characters with no success. How can I tell MySQL to accept this format in phpMyAdmin? Setting up these tables is the first step in writing a program that will use uploaded gzipped .csv files to maintain the catalog of an e-commerce site.

  Hi! I am working with carscading dropdowns in MVC. It apears that I will not be able to easaly create dropdowns on demand, instead I will have to add the dropdowns before sending it to the client. This should be checked when doing a call to the service as well as when the page is sent to the client ("POSTBACK"). What I need is : 4 Dropdowns Only the first dropdown is visible when first entering the page. When selecting a option from dropdown1 the dropdown2 will be populated and so on If there is only 1 option then the dropdown should be hidden If all 4 dropdowns is set and the end-user change dropdown 1, then dropdown2 should be reloaded and the rest be hidden If the user have selected some of the dropdowns(say 1,2 and 3) and hit submit and the page is not accepted on the server side(not valid) the dropdowns should be set exacly as when the user cliked the submit button when the page returns to the user. Any suggestions on this?

• Is it bad practice to use python's getattr extensively?

  I'm creating a shell-like environment. My original method of handleing user input was to use a dictionary mapping commands (strings) to methods of various classes, making use of the fact that functions are first class objects in python. For flexibility's sake (mostly for parsing commands), I'm thinking of changing my setup such that I'm using getattr(command), to grab the method I need and then passing arguments to it at the end of my parser. Another advantage of this approach is not having to update my (currently statically implemented) command dictionary every time I add a new method/command. My question is, will I be taking a hit to the efficiency of my shell? Does it matter how many methods/commands I have? I'm currently looking at 30 some commands, which could eventually double.
