  • Use HTTP PUT to create new cache (ehCache) running on the same Tomcat?

    - by socal_javaguy
I am trying to send a HTTP PUT (in order to create a new cache and populate it with my generated JSON) to ehCache using my webservice which is on the same local tomcat instance. Am new to RESTful Web Services and am using JDK 1.6, Tomcat 7, ehCache, and JSON. I have my POJOs defined like this: Person POJO: import javax.xml.bind.annotation.XmlRootElement; @XmlRootElement public class Person { private String firstName; private String lastName; private List<House> houses; // Getters & Setters } House POJO: import javax.xml.bind.annotation.XmlRootElement; @XmlRootElement public class House { private String address; private String city; private String state; // Getters & Setters } Using a PersonUtil class, I hardcoded the POJOs as follows: public class PersonUtil { public static Person getPerson() { Person person = new Person(); person.setFirstName("John"); person.setLastName("Doe"); List<House> houses = new ArrayList<House>(); House house = new House(); house.setAddress("1234 Elm Street"); house.setCity("Anytown"); house.setState("Maine"); houses.add(house); person.setHouses(houses); return person; } } Am able to create a JSON response per a GET request: @Path("") public class MyWebService{ @GET @Produces(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON) public Person getPerson() { return PersonUtil.getPerson(); } } When deploying the war to tomcat and pointing the browser to http://localhost:8080/personservice/ Generated JSON: { "firstName" : "John", "lastName" : "Doe", "houses": [ { "address" : "1234 Elmstreet", "city" : "Anytown", "state" : "Maine" } ] } So far, so good, however, I have a different app which is running on the same tomcat instance (and has support for REST): http://localhost:8080/ehcache/rest/ While tomcat is running, I can issue a PUT like this: echo "Hello World" | curl -S -T - http://localhost:8080/ehcache/rest/hello/1 When I "GET" it like this: curl http://localhost:8080/ehcache/rest/hello/1 Will yield: Hello World What I need to do is create a POST which will put my entire Person generated JSON and create a new cache: http://localhost:8080/ehcache/rest/person And when I do a "GET" on this previous URL, it should look like this: { "firstName" : "John", "lastName" : "Doe", "houses": [ { "address" : "1234 Elmstreet", "city" : "Anytown", "state" : "Maine" } ] } So, far, this is what my PUT looks like: @PUT @Path("/ehcache/rest/person") @Produces(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON) @Consumes(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON) public Response createCache() { ResponseBuilder response = Response.ok(PersonUtil.getPerson(), MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON); return response.build(); } Question(s): (1) Is this the correct way to write the PUT? (2) What should I write inside the createCache() method to have it PUT my generated JSON into: http://localhost:8080/ehcache/rest/person (3) What would the command line CURL comment look like to use the PUT? Thanks for taking the time to read this...

  • Core Data Predicate To Many

    - by Vikings
    I have a core data model that has a one to many relationship, there is a category, and it can contain many subcategories. Category <---- Subcategory I am trying to perform a fetch that checks if a particular Category contains a Subcategory with a particular name. Let's say I have two categories below, I want to fetch to see if there are any subcategories name "Apple" in the Category named "Fruits". Vetegables - Carrot - Lettuce Fruits - Apple - Orange - Pear Code: - (SubCategory *)searchForSubCategoryWithName:(NSString *)subCategory inCategory:(Category *)category { NSFetchRequest *fetchRequest = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"SubCategory" inManagedObjectContext:self.beer.managedObjectContext]; [fetchRequest setEntity:entity]; NSPredicate *predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"name == [c] %@", subCategory]; [fetchRequest setPredicate:predicate]; NSError *error; NSArray *fetchedObjects = [self.beer.managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:fetchRequest error:&error]; if (fetchedObjects != nil && fetchedObjects.count > 0) { return [fetchedObjects objectAtIndex:0]; } else { return nil; } }

  • Is this physical collection class that contains only static methods an Anti-Pattern?

    - by Tj Kellie
I'm trying to figure out if I should continue on with a current pattern in an application I'm working in, or refactor this into something else. I have a set of collection classes off a generic base of List. These classes have public constructors but contain only static methods that return collections. They look like this: public class UserObjCollection : BaseCollection<UserObj> { public static UserObjCollection GetAllUserObj() { UserObjCollection obj = new UserObjCollection(); obj.MapObjects(new UserObjDataService().GetAllUserObj()); return obj; } } Is this a Pattern or Anti-Pattern and what are the merits of this over a straight factory pattern?

  • Use filter(), but work with both results

    - by Tomalak
In jQuery, filter() reduces your result to those elements that fulfill a certain condition. This splits the list in two parts. Working with the "good half" of the elements is easy: $("some selector").filter(function() { // determine result... return result; }).each( /* do something */ ); But how can I work with the "other half" of my elements, too - but without doing the equivalent of this: $("some selector").filter(function() { // determine result... return !result; }).each( /* do something else */ ); Basically, I'd like to feed two separate /* do something */ parts to a single filter. One for those that match, and one for the others - without having to filter twice. Am I missing a jQuery function that does this? P.S.: I guess I could do: $("some selector").each(function() { // determine result... if (result) /* do something */ else /* do something else */ }); But I was hoping for something nicer.

  • JQuery: animate() doesn't work as expected in IE...

    - by swalkner
Hi, I'm getting crazy with this IE 7... == hhttp://neu.emergent-innovation.com/ Why does following function not work in IE 7, but perfectly with Firefox? Is there a bug in the animate-function? function accordion_starting_page(){ // hide all elements except the first one $('#FCE-Inhalt02-ContentWrapper .FCE-Fade:not(:first)').css("height", "0").hide(); $('#FCE-Inhalt02-ContentWrapper .FCE-Fade:first').addClass("isVisible"); $('div.FCE-Title').click(function(){ // if user clicks on an already opened element => do nothing if (parseFloat($(this).next('.FCE-Fade').css("height")) > 0) { return false; } var toHide = $(this).siblings('.FCE-Fade.isVisible'); toHide.removeClass("isVisible"); // close all opened siblings toHide.animate({"height": "0", "display": "none"}, 1000); $(this).next('.FCE-Fade').addClass("isVisible").animate({"height" : "200"}, 1000); return false; }); } Thank you very much for your help...

  • How do I prevent form from redirecting after submission?

    - by Noor
I have searched the site and I've found various solutions, most of them suggesting using return false; Problem is that I'm using this piece of code to submit the form: $(function() { $("#snd").click(function() { var dendar = "http://" + $("#inpt").val() + ":" + $("#pwd").val() + "secretsite.lol/something.xml"; $("#formen").attr("action", dendar); $("#formen").submit(); alert(dendar); return false; }); }); The alert is just there to let me know that the form has been submitted.. Thanks guys!

  • "set -e" in shell and command substitution

    - by ivant
In shell scripts set -e is often used to make them more robust by stopping the script when some of the commands executed from the script exits with non-zero exit code. It's usually easy to specify that you don't care about some of the commands succeeding by adding || true at the end. The problem appears when you actually care about the return value, but don't want the script to stop on non-zero return code, for example: output=$(possibly-failing-command) if [ 0 == $? -a -n "$output" ]; then ... else ... fi Here we want to both check the exit code (thus we can't use || true inside of command substitution expression) and get the output. However, if the command in command substitution fails, the whole script stops due to set -e. Is there a clean way to prevent the script from stopping here without unsetting -e and setting it back afterwards?

  • Anonymous functions in C#

The following syntax is valid VB.NET code Dim myCollection As New List(Of Stock) myCollection.Add(New Stock(Guid.NewGuid, "Item1")) myCollection.Add(New Stock(Guid.NewGuid, "Item2")) Dim res As List(Of Stock) = myCollection.FindAll(Function(stock As Stock) As Boolean If stock.Description = "Item2" Then Return True End If Return False End Function) How can I accomplish the same thing in C#? I have tried... myCollection.FindAll(bool delegate(Stock stock) { if (blah blah) { } }); But it appears I have somehow structured it incorrectly as I get the following error. "Error 1 Invalid expression term 'bool'"

  • Interface name as a Type

    - by user1889148
    I am trying to understand interfaces in Java and have this task to do which I am a stack with. It must be something easy, but I don't seem to see the solution. Interface contains a few methods, one of them should return true if all elements of this set are also in the set. I.e. public interface ISet{ //some methods boolean isSubsetOf(ISet x); } Then the class: public class myClass implements ISet{ ArrayList<Integer> mySet; public myClass{ mySet = new ArrayList<Integer>(); } //some methods public boolean isSubsetOf(ISet x){ //method body } } What do I need to write in method body? How do I check that the instance of myClass is a subset of ISet collection? I was trying to cast, but it gives an error: ArrayList<Integer> param = (ArrayList<Integer>)x; return param.containsAll(mySet);

  • Why does DestroyWindow close my application?

    - by user146780
I'v created a window after creating my main one but calling DestroyWindow on its handle closes the entire application, how can I simply get rid of it? it looks like this: BOOL InitInstance(HINSTANCE hInstance, int nCmdShow) { HWND hWnd; HWND fakehandle; hInst = hInstance; // Store instance handle in our global variable hWnd = CreateWindow(szWindowClass, szTitle, WS_OVERLAPPEDWINDOW | WS_EX_LAYERED, CW_USEDEFAULT, 0, CW_USEDEFAULT, 0, NULL, NULL, hInstance, NULL); fakehandle = CreateWindow(szWindowClass, "FAKE WINDOW", WS_OVERLAPPEDWINDOW, CW_USEDEFAULT, 0, CW_USEDEFAULT, 0, NULL, NULL, hInstance, NULL); if (!hWnd || !fakehandle) { return FALSE; } //some code DestroyWindow(fakehandle); ShowWindow(hWnd, nCmdShow); UpdateWindow(hWnd); return TRUE; } how can I destroy this window without destroying my main one? I'm creating a dummy window to check for multisampling in OpenGL. Thanks

  • convert array of objects to concatenated string

  • Unable to decode hex values in javascript tooltip

    - by staudk27
Hi all, I have quite the process that we go through in order to display some e-mail communications in our application. Trying to keep it as general as possible... -We make a request to a service via XML -Get the XML reply string, send the string to a method to encode any invalid characters as follows: public static String convertUTF8(String value) { char[] chars = value.toCharArray(); StringBuffer retVal = new StringBuffer(chars.length); for (int i = 0; i < chars.length; i++) { char c = chars[i]; int chVal = (int)c; if (chVal > Byte.MAX_VALUE) { retVal.append("&#x").append(Integer.toHexString(chVal)).append(";"); } else { retVal.append(c); } } return retVal.toString(); } We then send that result of a string to another method to remove any other invalid characters: public static String removeInvalidCharacters(String inString) { if (inString == null){ return null; } StringBuffer newString = new StringBuffer(); char ch; char c[] = inString.toCharArray(); for (int i = 0; i < c.length; i++) { ch = c[i]; // remove any characters outside the valid UTF-8 range as well as all control characters // except tabs and new lines if ((ch < 0x00FD && ch > 0x001F) || ch == '\t' || ch == '\n' || ch == '\r') { newString.append(ch); } } return newString.toString(); } This string is then "unmarshal'ed" via the SaxParser The object is then sent back to our Display action which generated the response to the calling jsp/javascript to create the page. The issue is some text can contain characters which can't be processed correctly. The following is eventually rendered on the JSP just fine: <PrvwCommTxt>This is a new test. Have a*&amp;#xc7;&amp;#xb4;)&amp;#xa1;.&amp;#xf1;&amp;#xc7;&amp;#xa1;.&amp;#xf1;*&amp;#xc7;&amp;#xb4;)...</PrvwCommTxt> Which shows up as "This is a new test. Have a*Ç´)¡.ñÇ¡." in the browser. -The following shows up in a tooltip while hovering over the above text: <CommDetails>This is a new test. Have a*Ç´)¡.ñÇ¡.ñ*Ç´)¡.ñ*´)(¡.ñÇ(¡.ñÇ* Wonderful Day!</CommDetails> This then shows up incorrectly when rendered in the tooltip javascript with all the HEX values and not being rendered correctly. Any suggestions on how to make the unknown characters show correctly in javascript?

  • Calling a function that has 'Activity' as an argument.

    - by Andrew
I have stripped down my functions for simplicity: public static int countLines(String fileName, Activity activity) throws IOException { BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(activity.getAssets().open(fileName))); return 3; } I am calling it from here: private CharSequence RandomRead() throws IOException { int numberLines = countLines("data.txt", ??????); return "Success" } In the call to countLines("data.txt", ??????), what do I put as the argument for the Activity? I've Googled all night and I can find no examples of an actual call to a function where Activity is an argument. (Lots of examples actually using 'activity', but no calls to the example functions). Thanks!

  • Real world examples of Ecmascript functions returning a Reference?

    - by Bergi
Read the EcmaScript specification, section 8.7 The Reference Specification Type: The Reference type is used to explain the behaviour of such operators as delete, typeof, and the assignment operators. […] A Reference is a resolved name binding. Function calls are permitted to return references. This possibility is admitted purely for the sake of host objects. No built-in ECMAScript function defined by this specification returns a reference and there is no provision for a user-defined function to return a reference. Those last two sentences impressed me. With this, you could do things like coolHostFn() = value (valid syntax, btw). So my question is: Are there any EcmaScript implementations that define host function objects which result in Reference values?

  • Calculating the Angle Between Two vectors Using Dot Product

    - by P. Avery
I'm trying to calculate the angle between two vectors so that I can rotate a character in the direction of an object in 3D space. I have two vectors( character & object), loc_look, and modelPos respectively. For simplicity's sake I am only trying to rotate along the up axis...yaw. loc_look = D3DXVECTOR3 (0, 0, 1), modelPos = D3DXVECTOR3 (0, 0, 15); I have written this code which seems to be the correct calculations. My problem arises, seemingly, because the rotation I apply to the character's look vector(loc_look) exceeds the value of the object's position (modelPos). Here is my code: BOOL CEntity::TARGET() { if(graphics.m_model->m_enemy) { D3DXVECTOR3 modelPos = graphics.m_model->position; D3DXVec3Normalize(&modelPos, &modelPos); //D3DXVec3Normalize(&loc_look, &loc_look); float dot = D3DXVec3Dot(&loc_look, &modelPos); float yaw = acos(dot); BOOL neg = (loc_look.x > modelPos.x) ? true : false; switch ( neg ) { case false: Yaw(yaw); return true; case true: Yaw(-yaw); return true; } } else return false; } I rotate the character's orientation matrix with the following code: void CEntity::CalculateOrientationMatrix(D3DXMATRIX *orientationMatrix) { D3DXMatrixRotationAxis(&rotY, &loc_up, loc_yaw); D3DXVec3TransformCoord(&loc_look, &loc_look, &rotY); D3DXVec3TransformCoord(&loc_right, &loc_right, &rotY); D3DXMatrixRotationAxis(&rotX, &loc_right, loc_pitch); D3DXVec3TransformCoord(&loc_look, &loc_look, &rotX); D3DXVec3TransformCoord(&loc_up, &loc_up, &rotX); D3DXMatrixRotationAxis(&rotZ, &loc_look, loc_roll); D3DXVec3TransformCoord(&loc_up, &loc_up, &rotZ); D3DXVec3TransformCoord(&loc_right, &loc_right, &rotZ); *orientationMatrix *= rotX * rotY * rotZ; orientationMatrix->_41 = loc_position.x; orientationMatrix->_42 = loc_position.y; orientationMatrix->_43 = loc_position.z; //D3DXVec3Normalize(&loc_look, &loc_look); SetYawPitchRoll(0,0,0); // Reset Yaw, Pitch, & Roll Amounts } Also to note, the modelPos.x increases by 0.1 each iteration so the character will face the object as it moves along the x-axis... Now, when I run program, in the first iteration everything is fine(I haven't rotated the character yet). On the second iteration, the loc_look.x value is greater than the modelPos.x value(I rotated the character too much using the angle specified with the dot product calculations in the TARGET function). Therefore on the second iteration my code will rotate the character left to adjust for the difference in the vectors' x values... How can I tighten up the measurements so that I do not rotate my character's look vector by too great a value?

  • C++ String manipulation isn't making sense to me...

    - by Andrew Bolster
I am trying some of the Stanford SEE courses online to learn some new languages; this particular assignment has to do with removing substrings from strings. What I've got so far is below, but if text = "hello hello" and remove ="el", it gets stuck in a loop, but if i change text to text = "hello hllo", it works, making me think I'm doing something obviously stupid. There is a stipulation in the assignment not to modify the incoming strings, and instead to return a new string. string CensorString1(string text, string remove){ string returned; size_t found=0, lastfound=0; found = (text.substr(lastfound,text.size())).find(remove); while (string::npos != found ){ returned += text.substr(lastfound, found); lastfound = found + remove.size(); found = (text.substr(lastfound,text.size())).find(remove); } returned += text.substr(lastfound, found); return returned; } Guidance would be appreciated :-) Thanks

  • Hibernate: getting a record but it's being updated in the database?

    - by jack
For some reason Hibernate seems to be keeping my session open and updating the object without me explicitely invoking a save/update/saveorupdate. I guess the session is staying open and it's beeing marked as dirty. However this is not the desired behaviour, so what's the cleanest way to fix this? The issue seems to occur because I store a phone number without formatting in the database but the getter of the object returns a formatted telephone number. My flow: go to a jsp = controller = service = dao DAO getter function if(userId != 0) { return (User)dbFactory.get(User.class, userId); } return null; The service just passes it to the controller and the controller puts te User object in the request scope. I display it on my JSP page using EL.

  • Delphi JavaDoc Parser

    - by Christian Sciberras
I need to parse JavaDoc (documentation) comment syntax with Delphi 7. It is well known in the java world as "JavaDoc", but I'm actually doing this for PHP, ie, parsing JavaDoc in some PHP code. Call it PHPDoc if you want to. To see how these comments work, you can see RAD IDEs like NetBeans etc. Example of JavaDoc for addition function: /** * Adds to numbers together. * @param integer $a The first number. * @param integer $b The second number. * @return integer The resulting number. */ function add($a,$b){ return $a+$b; } Please note that the parser need not be full, ie, parsing all of the PHP code. I mean, it's perfectly fine if it accepted the comment text only as input. Cheers, Chris.
