  One of the common use-cases of XML literals is creating HTML. However, HTML entities cannot be used in XML literals since LINQ to XML directly supports only the Data type definitions (DTD) defined in the XML 1.0 spec. You can read more about it here. • Does MS create cross browser compatibility problems on purpose? [closed]

  IE does some weird **. E.G. Supporting the send() method in AJAX with no params. Poor support for XML (well IE9 I've heard things are alot better), but seriously...since MS owned such a huge market share on browsers were they intentionally dropping in problems like this and making it easy to write crap code to give the impression that competing browsers suck to the layman? Update I realize Javascript's limitations caused some of the Xcompatibility problems. I have read comments from Douglas Crockford regarding how javascript was rushed and exploded in popularity before its time...resulting in some of the issues he can't fix. I'm only concerned specifically about MS's intentions...problems they could have fixed, yet did not. Did any of you work on the IE team or know of articles discussing some details?

• Need to know best way to utilize LVM to backup Ubuntu

  So I've had issues with Windows which forced me to install and learn Ubuntu as I'm fed up with MSFT. So now I need to know the most efficient/best way to image Ubuntu so that if I messed something up in one point in time I could always come back to the healthy point in time. During the install I saw an option for LVM and read what it is though I don't know how to utilize it to prevent a situation where I have to reinstall everything. Help? Note: I found on the right hand side of this Ask A Question area an area titled Similar Questions giving me Setting up LVM Snapshot as a backup/restore point in ubuntu This is pretty in depth and a bit complex, though completely doable, is it possible to just use LVM out of the box after a complete HDD wipe and normal Ubuntu install? :Fingers crossed and rabbits foot in hand:

• Ubuntu 14.04 VLC Subtitles - Will not attach (unable to drag/drop or upload while viewing)

  I'm new to Ubuntu and a long time user of VLC with the Windows OS. In Windows, I was able to drag and drop the .sfv file onto the playing video and the subtitles would be enabled. In Ubuntu I try to drag and drop the .sfv file and it acts as though the .sfv file is a video and stops the actual video from playing. When I try to attach the .sfv file (view - subtitles - select text subtitles) I'm able to see the .sfv file I'd like to attach/open, although once I click open the file doesn't attach itself to the video. Does anyone know how to help me with this situation? I'm 2 seasons deep into Breaking Bad and attempting to read the body language of the characters during the Spanish parts has gone on way too long. • DDD and validation of aggregate root

  Suppose an aggregate root : MailConfiguration (wrapping an AddressPart object). The AddressPart object is a simple immutable value object with some fields like senderAdress, recipentAddress (to make example simple). As being an invariant object, AddressPart should logically wrap its own Validator (by the way of external a kind of AddressValidator for respecting Single Responsibility Principle) I read some articles that claimed an aggregateRoot must validate its 'children'. However, if we follow this principle, one could create an AddressPart with an uncohesive/invalid state. What are your opinion? Should I move the collaborator AddressValidator(used in constructor so in order to validate immediately the cohesion of an AddressPart) from AddressPart and assign it to aggregateRoot (MailConfiguration) ?

• Is it time to add IPv6 access to my websites?

  I have several dedicated servers and VPS servers, and some of those are at companies that have provided me with native IPv6 blocks (in addition to the IPv4 IP addresses). Does it currently make sense to point an AAAA record to an IPv6 address on my server, in addition to the A record pointing to the IPv4 address? This would be for (for example) the www subdomain. (the networking and web server software would be set up on the server to respond appropriately). A while ago I read that a small percentage of users (1 in a thousand?) would have slow or no access if a subdomain had both A and AAAA records because their networking software asked for one and got the other. Is that still the case, will adding an AAAA record inconvenience some users, or is the percentage already smaller and falling? In other words, is now the time to get around to adding native IPv6 support for a busy website aimed at the general public, or is it still too early?

  I have had a quick look but couldn't see anything related. Basically, if we were to accept payments for events on our website, via paypal (essentially a Buy it now! button), as a business, do we need a merchant's account, or will a regular bank account be acceptable? I may have some confusion in terms. My understanding is you need a merchant's account to accept credit card payments, but as we are using PayPal, is this necessary? • System doesn't boot when ubuntu is installed on an SSD

  I've recently discovered Ubuntu and decided to give it a try. I am using a Samsung Series 5 p530u3c-ad1 which comes with a 24gb SSD and a ~500gb HDD, My intention is to set the system files to the ssd and the rest to the HDD. The system works fine if I do a direct install using only the HDD, but if I try using the SSD for the system files the computer doesn't boot-up, I do not know if the SSD is being recognized by the computer, I think so because I could install Ubuntu on it, but it doesn't appear on the boot order or the boot menu. I read some posts and tried using boot-repair which pointed me not to forget to set my system to boot from my SSD, unfortunately I cannot because of the issues mentioned above. Thanks for your time.

Despite some (apparent) improvements over the VS2008 behavior, in its current form it's even LESS usable than before. A brief non-exhaustive summary of the typical grief with this dialog is: Scrolling a list of *hundreds* of entries? (300+ typically) No partial matching when typing: yes, you can type in the list to get to the desired entry, but the matching is performed in an exact manner, from the beginning of the assembly name. • HP Envy Beats Edition can play CDs, but not DVDs

  After a fresh install, and various other tests (troubleshooting), I have concluded that my laptop (an HP Envy 14 - Beats Edtion) will not play DVDs, however it will play CDs. When I first got the laptop, up until recently it played DVDs perfectly, I doubt there is a hardware issue sees as it loads the DVDs and can view the files in them, but not play them, as well as read and work with CDs perfectly. Was there an update or something of the like that may have caused this? If so, is there a fix? I typically use this laptop 's HDMI out with my TV as a DVD player... so it would be very beneficial if there was a solution to this problem. There was a similar issue with the touchpad that there was a fix for... so I'm hoping that this is something similar

• Designing a simple snake A.I

  I've looked at some stuff online regarding this specific topic, and a lot of the info that I read involved graphs and path finding. I really don't want to get involved in something too complex & out of my level, and also I don't need my snake to be that intelligent (it will be a large board with the snake not growing in size on every munch). How could you structure a simpler AI for the snake that gets the job done relatively well? I would be able to get the snake to move towards the food item correctly, but my issue is that I'm not sure how to deal with the snake colliding with itself. Say the snake has a look ahead, and it finds that its tail is in the way, it could change direction, but what happens next? Any ideas on how to tackle this? Should the snake build an instruction set from every square, or should it think on the go?

• Anti aliasing problem

  I am auditioning fonts on google web fonts and one that I was discounting was Ubuntu because it looked a bit jagged ( screenshot below taken straight from google); however afterward I read an article where it was mentioned as a good choice, and there was a screenshot where it looked really good ( to me anyway ). I am using windows 7 and have tried looking at it in chrome and firefox. I notice the same thing with some other fonts but this one is a good example because it looks perfect in the screenshot but not so good when I look at it on their site. I know this essentially is a question about setting my computer, but I thought that this would be the best place to pose the question: Is there something wrong with the settings on my machine seeing as it's obviously not showing the font the same on my computer as it did when the article writer downloaded it and used it in an image. • Is it a good idea to use a formula to balance a game's complexity, in order to keep players in constant flow?

  I read a lot about Flow theory and its applications to video games, and I got an idea sticking in my mind. If a number of weight values are applied to different parameters of a certain game level (i.e. the size of the level, the number of enemies, their overal strength, the variance in their behavior, etc), then it should be technically possible to find an overal score mechanism for each level in the game. If a constant ratio of complexity increase were empirically defined, for instance 1,3333, or say, the Golden Ratio, would it be a good idea to arrange the levels in such an order that the increase of overal complexity tends to increase that much? Has somebody tried it?

Make it so damned difficult to cancel your windows phone dev account subscription, that you will just give up trying and pay as the easy route out.Very sad that it has come to this. Usually I would not approach an open forum such as my site for such issues, but the sad state of their affairs leaves me with no choice. Here is the issue, last year, I opened a WPDev account, for which you have to pay. Seeing that its been a year, I haven’t submitted anything, I didn’t want to renew my account and pay the fee. • Is it possible to stream music/video from an Apache server?

  I'm just starting to get into setting up a server. I've set up a basic Apache server to access some songs and movies. When I click one of the songs though, nothing happens. When I click one of the movies, sometimes it will open a new web page and act as though it is going to start playing, but never does. I know Apache is HTTP, not FTP and read somewhere that that could be a problem, but I'm uncertain of the differences. Anyway, is it possible to click on one of the songs and have it start streaming using, for example, Windows Media Player? If so, might someone either explain how to do so or direct me to where I can find it? Any information on retrieving media from an Apache server at this point would be most appreciated. -Edit- I don't know if it matters, but I'm using Windows 7 and Google Chrome

• Algorithms for rainfall + river creation in procedurally generated terrain

  I've recently become fascinated by the things that can be done with procedurally terrain and have started experimenting with world building a bit. I'd like to be able to make worlds something like Dwarf fortress with biomes created from meshing together various maps. So first step has been done. Using the diamond-square algorithm I've created some nice hieghtmaps. Next step is I would like to add some water features and have them somewhat realistically generated with rainfall. I've read about a few different approaches such as starting at the high points of the map, and "stepping" down to the lowest neighboring point, pooling/eroding as it works its way down to sea level. Are there any documented algorithms with this or are they more off the cuff? Would love any advice/thoughts.

• iPhone 3d Model format: .h file, .obj, or some other?

  I'm beginning to write an iPhone game using OpenGL-ES and I've come across a problem with deciding what format my 3D models should be in. I've read (link escapes me at the moment) that some developers prefer the models compiled in Objective-C .h files. Still, others prefer having .obj as these are more portable (i.e., for deployment on non-iPhone platforms). Various 3D game engines seem to support many(?) formats, but I'm not going to use any of these engines as I would like to actually learn OpenGL-ES. Am I putting myself at a disadvantage here by not using a packaged engine? Thanks!
