  • How Two Programs Can Talk To Each Other In Java?

    My first time here... I want to ?reduce? the CPU usage/ROM usage/RAM usage - in general ?speaking?, all system resources that my App use - how doesn't? :) For this reason i want to split the preferences window from the rest of the application, and let the preferences window to run as ?independent? program. The preferences program ?should? write to a Property file(not a problem at all) and to send a "update signal" to the main program - which mean, to call the update method(that i wrote) that found in the Main class. How can i call the update method in the Main program from the preferences program? Or in the other hand... There is a way to build preferences window that take system resources just when it's appear? Is this approach - of separating programs and let them talk to each other(somehow) - is a right approach for speeding up my programs? tnx

    in a controller you can use this method to load a view. but i want to know behind the scenes here. im new to php and frameworks, but i’ve learned the basics of OOP. when $this-view() is made then the method in the current class or the parent class is used. but what does this mean: $this-load-view(). what is the intermediate load? is it a function or is it a property? where is it located? how could it contain view()? grateful for explanation.

  • iPhone app launch times and Core Data migration

    I have a Core Data application which I plan to update with a new schema. The lightweight migration seems to work, but it takes time proportional to the amount of data in the database. This occurs in the didFinishLaunchingWithOptions phase of the app. I want to avoid <app> failed to launch in time problems, so I assume I cannot keep the migration in the didFinishLaunchingWithOptions method. I assume the best method would involve performing the migration in a background thread. I assume also that I'd need to defer loading of the main ViewController until the loading completes to avoid using the managedObjectContext until initialization completes. Does this make sense, and is there example code (maybe in Apple sample projects) of this sort of initialization?

    I have an object elem that I'd like to pass to the remove_tag_from_cart method. Here is my attempt: -elem = @tags[1] #{elem.name}#{link_to_remote image_tag('x.png'), :url => {:controller => 'questions', :action => 'remove_tag_from_cart'}, :with => {:tag_to_remove => :elem}} The :with clause isn't working correctly. The image does not even show up. If I take out the :with clause, then the link properly shows up and calls the method correctly, but I need the elem object in order to remove it from the cart. Suggestions?

    i have a UITextView object which i have created in interface builder with it's hidden property unmarked.Now i want this textView to be invisible when my application launches and first view appears.Further i want it to be displayed when a particular method is called.Now this is what i have written in view did load [mTextView setHidden:YES]; self.mTextView=[[UITextView alloc] init]; it hides the textView ats the first view appears but when my desired method is called and i write [mTextView setHidden:NO]; it does not show it again.. Is it like we cant change the appearance of a textView once it is assigned because after assigning memory as self.mTextView=[[UITextView alloc] init]; and then writing [mTextView setHidden:YES]; it does not hide textView in viwDidLoad either.....

  • Problems with passing an anonymous temporary function-object to a templatized constructor.

    I am trying to attach a function-object to be called on destruction of a templatized class. However, I can not seem to be able to pass the function-object as a temporary. Thus when I create an object of class X, I do not have to keep an object of class writer within it, but only a pointer to Base<T> (I'm not sure if I need the <T> here, but for now its there). The problem is that I seem to have to create an object of writer and then pass it to the constructor of X rather than call it like X<int> xi(writer(); I might be missing something completely stupid and obvious here, any suggestions?

    I have checked out all these questions... Difference Class and Instance Methods Difference between class methods and instance methods? Objective-C: Class vs Instance Methods? ...and all they explain is how instance methods are used on instances of a class and class methods are used with the class name, when a message is sent to a class object. This is helpful, but I'm curious to know why one would use a class method vs. an instance method. I'm fairly new to iOS application development, and usually use class methods, and I feel like I'm doing something wrong. Thanks in advanced!

  • Fastest way to read data from a lot of ASCII files

    Hi guys, for a college exercise that I've already submitted I needed to read a .txt file wich contained a lot of names of images(1 in each line). Then I needed to open each image as an ascii file, and read their data(images where in ppm format), and do a series of things with them. The things is, I noticed my program was taking 70% of the time in the reading the data from the file part, instead of in the other calculations that I was doing (finding number of repetitions of each pixel with a hash table, finding diferents pixels beetween 2 images etc..), which I found quite odd to say the least.     Hi, I don't know if my question will be clear or not, but i'm starting basic stuff with iphone programming, and i'm trying to understand how to go from a screen to another. lets say i have a screen with a "next page" button and another page with a "return" button. I have a general idea of how to do this, but I don't know how to put it together. I think I need an IBAction method for each button, and in each method a navigation controller with pushViewController.     Hello world! I'm trying to integrate Lua to my C# app when I hit a little snag. I was hoping someone with more expertise could help point me to the right direction. Let's say I have the following C# methods: public void MyMethod(int foo) { ... } public void MyMethod(int foo, int bar) { ... } I would like to register it to my Lua script environment so that I can do something like this: -- call method with one param MyMethod(123) -- call method with two params MyMethod(123, 456) I tried RegisterFunction("MyMethod", this, this.GetType().GetMethod("MyMethod")) but it reasonably complains about ambiguous match. Any ideas?

  • I can't change a value, for a web service using an axiom client!

    Hi.I just started learning about web serices. I succesfuly installed Tomcat, and deployed axis2 on it. I followed the tutorial from here http://ws.apache.org/axis2/1_1_1/quickstartguide.html . I made the StockQuoteService web service, moved the .aar file in the WEB-INF/services folder and tested it - it worked all fine. Then I made a client for the servce. I took the source code of the file AXIOMClient.java from the dir described here http://ws.apache.org/axis2/1_1_1/quickstartguide.html#clientaxiom , imported the classes in Eclipse Java IDE and runned it. I tested and the update method works from the browser when calling http://localhost:8080/axis2/services/StockQuoteService/update?symbol=WSO&price=144 But from my java client update method is not working at all, when calling getPrice I always receive 42.00. What am I doing wrong? or, how can I trace what is happening?

    We use the ASP.NET profile subsystem to associate key-value pairs of information with users. I am implementing functionality for the deletion of users. I have been using the ProfileManager.DeleteProfile(string userName) method, but I have noticed that this leaves a row in the aspnet_Users table in the aspnetdb database we use to store the profile information. Clearly, I could manipulate the database directly, but I am reluctant to do so. What is the best way to ensure all information assocaited with a user is deleted from the aspnetdb? PS: there is a tantalising Membership.DeleteUser(string userName, bool deleteEverything) method, but this returns a database connection error. A web.config issue?

  • EF 4.x generated entity classes (POCO) and Map files

    I have an MVC 4 app that I am working on and using the code first implementation except I cheated a bit and created my database first then generated my entity classes (poco) from my database using the EF power tools (reverse engineer). I guess you can say I did database first method but I have no edmx file just the context class and my entity classes (poco) I have a few projects in the works using MVC and EF with pocos but just the one project I used the tool to generate my pocos from the database. My question is about the mapping files that get created when I generate my pocos using the tool. What is the purpose of these Map files? I figured the map files are needed when generating the db from the model like with the true code first method, in my case where I am using a tool to generate my model from the database do the map files have any influence on how my app uses the entity classes?

  • Why does a delegate with no parameters compile?

    I'm confused why this compiles: private delegate int MyDelegate(int p1, int p2); private void testDelegate() { MyDelegate imp = delegate { return 1; }; } MyDelegate should be a pointer to a method that takes two int parameters and returns another int, right? Why am I allowed to assign a method that takes no parameters?   • Looking for a way to get HTTP Digest Authentication headers from incoming http requests

    I've been working on a REST implementation with my existing Cake install, and it's looking great except that I want to use HTTP Digest Authentication for all requests (Basic Auth won't cut it). So great, I'll generate a header in the client app (which is not cake) and send it to my cake install. Only problem is, I can't find a method for extracting that Digest from the request... I've looked through the Cake API for something that I can use to get the Digest Header. You'd think that Request Handler would be able to grab it, but I can't find anything resembling that. There must be another method of getting the digest that I am overlooking? In the meantime I'm writing my own regex to parse it out of the Request... once I'm done I'll post it here so no one has to waste as much time as I did hunting for it.
