• BASH: How to count all the human readable files?

  I'm taking an intro course to UNIX and have a homework question that follows: How many files in the previous question are text files? A text file is any file containing human-readable content. (TRICK QUESTION. Run the file command on a file to see whether the file is a text file or a binary data file! If you simply count the number of files with the ".txt" extension you will get no points for this question.) The previous question simply asked how many regular files there were, which was easy to figure out by doing find . -type f | wc -l I'm just having trouble determining what "human readable content" is, since I'm assuming it means anything besides binary/assembly, but I thought that's what -type f displays. Maybe that's what the professor meant by saying "trick question"? This question has a follow up later that also asks "What text files contain the string "csc" in any mix of upper and lower case?". Obviously "text" is referring to more than just .txt files, but I need to figure out the first question to determine this!

• How can I get a list of default documents in IIS using PowerShell?

  I'm managing a Server Core machine and trying to do everything in PowerShell, which is fun. I need a list of the default documents. From other websites, I've found out how to set and remove them, using both xxx-WebConfiguration and xxx-WebConfigurationProperty. • If I use Unicode on a ISO-8859-1 site, how will that be interpreted by a browser?

  So I got a site that uses ISO-8859-1 encoding and I can't change that. I want to be sure that the content I enter into the web app on the site gets parsed correctly. The parser works on a character by character basis. I also cannot change the parser, I am just writing files for it to handle. The content in my file I am telling the app to display after parsing contains Unicode characters (or at least I assume so, even if they were produced by Windows Alt Codes mapped to CP437). Using entities is not an option due to the character by character operation of the parser. The only characters that the parser escapes upon output are markup sensitive ones like ampersand, less than, and greater than symbols. I would just go ahead and put this through to see what it looks like, but output can only be seen on a publishing, which has to spend a couple days getting approved and such, and that would be asking too much for just a test case. So, long story short, if I told a site to output ?ÇÑ¥?? on a site with a meta tag stating it is supposed to use ISO-8859-1, will a browser auto-detect the Unicode and display it or will it literally translate it as ISO-8859-1 and get a different set of characters?

• XMLHttpRequest() and outputting csv file

  Initially, I developed a javascript function to use window.open to post contents of a form to a new window which simply opened the new window and initiated a csv file download. Now on reflection, I find the opening of the window superfluous and am trying to just execute a XMLHttpRequest() to download the csv. I am not getting what I want and I'm not 100% sure that I can so I thought I'd ask here for some assistance. When a form is submitted, I want to take all the form values and post them to another page which builds an SQL string and builds a csv based on the contents. • SugarmCRM REST API always returns "null"

  I'm trying to test out the SugarCRM REST API, running latest version of CE (6.0.1). It seems that whenever I do a query, the API returns "null", nothing else. If I omit the parameters, then the API returns the API description (which the documentation says it should). I'm trying to perform a login, passing as parameter the method (login), input_type and response_type (json) and rest_data (JSON encoded parameters). • Not loading associations without proxies in NHibernate

  I don't like the idea of proxy and lazy loading. I don't need that. I want pure POCO. And I want to control loading associations explicitly when I need. I can't remove many-to-one mapping because that also disables explicit loading or a query like from x in session.Query<Comment>() where x.Owner.Title == "hello" select x; I specified lazy="true" and set use_proxy_validator property to false. But that also eager loads Owner. Is there any way to load only Post entity?

• Is it possible to sync specific router settings across multiple routers?

  I recently purchased a second Linksys wireless routers set up on the other side of my home and I am wondering if it is possible to somehow sync particular settings between the two? For instance what I am really after is the "MAC Filter List". I would "like" to be able to maintain the list on both routers without having to manually type in the field values. maybe this isn't possible, or has an easy answer, but hopefully those of you who know will cut me a bit of slack. I tried to "google" the answer to this of course, but it seems any searches with the words "sync" and "router" and/or "wifi" result in pages of people having issues with synching their iOS devices over wifi. I would say that have decent amount of networking knowledge in regards to average home networks, and I imagine in larger businesses / corporations they must have a "simpler" way of maintaining things like this. Any insight to point me in the right direction will be much appreciated.

• Idiomatic PHP web page creation

  My PHP experience is rather limited. I've just inherited some stuff that looks odd to me, and I'd like to know if this is a standard way to do things. The page which shows up in the browser location (e.g. www.example.com/example_page) has something like: <? $title = "Page Title"; $meta = "Some metadata"; require("pageheader.inc"); ?> <!-- Content --> Then pageheader.inc has stuff like: <? @$title = ($title) ? $title : ""; @$meta = ($meta) ? $meta : ""; ?> <html> <head> <title><?=$title?></title </head> <!-- and so forth --> Maybe others find this style useful, but it confuses me. I suppose this could be a step toward a rudimentary content management system, but the way it works here I'd think it adds to the processing the server has to do without reducing the load on the web developer enough to make it worth the effort. So, is this a normal way to create pages with PHP? Or should I pull all this in favor of a better approach? Also, I know that "<?" (vs. "<?php" ) is undesirable; I'm just reproducing what is in the code.

• Why is PHP discriminating between .php and .abc extensions for caching?

  There seems to be a problem between how PHP engine handles identical files that differ only in their file extension. Problem: "An If-Modified-Since conditional request returned the full content unchanged." Also, I measured that the .php extension loads much faster than identitcal twin with .xxx extension even though the file contents are identical, and they differ only in their file extension. "HTTP allows clients to make conditional requests to see if a copy that they hold is still valid. Since this response has a Last-Modified header, clients should be able to use an If-Modified-Since request header for validation. RED has done this and found that the resource sends a full response even though it hadn't changed, indicating that it doesn't support Last-Modified validation." homepage ending with .php exact same file, but ending .ast Given: A home.php file is copied as home.xxx and this extension is added to htaccess to recognize it as a PHP file. The .php file listen to the php.ini where freshness is set to 3 hrs, the non .php files have to listen to htaccess where freshness is set to 2 hrs according to: AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .ast .abc .xxx .etc <IfModule mod_headers.c> ExpiresActive On ExpiresDefault M2419200 Header unset ETag FileETag None Header unset Pragma Header set Cache-Control "max-age=2419200" ##### DYNAMIC PAGES <FilesMatch "\\.(ast|php|abc|xxx)$"> ExpiresDefault M7200 Header set Cache-Control "public, max-age=7200" </FilesMatch> </IfModule> So far so good and everything loads, except, the non-php file doesn't cache properly, or it does cache well but doesn't validate well, to be more specific. See images enclosed. Only the non-php file extension causes the error and loads slower. The entire page.php loads faster as somehow all the elements in there then load properly from cache, while the page.abc has the full request returned while it ought to be cached, meaning the entire page is slower. Bottom line: What should be changed, in order eliminate the If-Modified-Since conditional request returning the full content unchanged?

• Filtering attachment types in Google Apps (free Google Business)

  We have Google apps in our company for mail delivery, our business can't pay the business version yet, however, we need to control the attachment types that employees download. We recently switched from another hosting provider who recomended us to plug Google Apps for mail when we moved the domain, we had a firewall before which was able to prevent certain file types to be downloaded. I know the business version has section for filtering mail (postini services). Is there a hack around my problem? Anyone ever had this problem? Thank you! UPDATE: The main problem is gmail apps uses ssl connection, can this be changed ? how can i get the firewall to filter files only allowing *.doc, *.xls y *.pdf.

  I want start programming for android.. What I have: -Windows 7 -Eclipse Classic 4.2 -Downloaded all there required files - http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing/adding-packages.html -ADT Plugin I want install new ADT plugin.. at first I tried to download it from http://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse, I add it, but if i selected it there is only "pending.." and nothing has load..(maybe internet connection?I have selected Native connection in preferences after pending it wrotes: Unable to connect to repository http://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/content.xml org.eclipse.equinox.p2.core.ProvidesException ) Thats why I download ADT plugin. So if I select downloaded ADT plugin - content of it load - developer tools and ndk plugin so I select all and click next. It loads and writes this: "Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found.   I've got a ResourceDictionary file that contains a bunch of resources to define elements of my UI. Including one for my DialogWindows, which will just be Windows. <Style x:Key="DialogWindow" TargetType="{x:Type Window}" > <Setter Property="OverridesDefaultStyle" Value="True"/> <Setter Property="WindowStyle" Value="None" /> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type Window}"> <Grid Background="{StaticResource SunkenBackground}"> <StackPanel Margin="20,20,20,20" Background="{StaticResource SunkenBackground}"> <AdornerDecorator> <ContentPresenter/> </AdornerDecorator> </StackPanel> </Grid> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> As you can see every DialogWindow should have a grid and a stackpanel, and then the content goes inside there. I've added the file to my App.xaml, and on one of my dialog windows I added Style="{StaticResource DialogWindow}". So the question is: Now that I have my Template set up for a window, and things are actually styled properly once I've added the StaticResource, what tags do I use to wrap my content in inside of my DialogWindow? I tried wrapping them inside Grid, but that just breaks the layout. If I wrap them inside a StackPanel, they look correct, but then I've got 2 StackPanels and a Grid, when if I didn't include the template I could just have 1 StackPanel and a Grid (I realize I could just take the stackpanel out of the template and do it for every DialogWindow, but that doesn't seem like a good solution).   I only want to accpet email from two addresses, the rest I want to delete immediately, unseen. I know how to make fileers and I can whitelist those two addresses. If I make 3 filter, in this order; 1) from [email protected] move to inbox, never mark as spam 2) from [email protected] move to inbox, never mark as spam 3) from *@*.* delete immediately, never move to trash can I be guaranteed that that will do what I want? For instance, can I be sure that the filters are executed in that order? I dont want to lose amy mail from those two adresses.

Then I would like to select the comment_id COUNT from the "comments" table IF the comment_id equals the posts id. • Key Repeat no longer works on Windows 7 Lenovo Windows 700 laptop

  The title pretty much sums up my problem. I can type fine, but holding down the key doesn't repeat, including the arrow keys which is super-annoying. "Filter Keys" in the Ease of access center is not turned on, so that's not the problem. Any ideas? UPDATE Also, the numeric keypad on the right is not working at all -- not just that it won't repeat, but there is no response at all to the numbers, the enter key, the numlk key. The purple Fn+NumLk which usually opens the calc program doesn't work. It's like it's totally disconnected.

• qTip pop ups come in from top left of screen (on first load)

  Hi, not sure if i'm set things up incorrectly - I don't seem to see anyone else with this problem, but my qTip popups (all ajax loaded content) are loading quite erratically, in that they are often animating in from off screen before appearing in the correct position. Is there a simple solution to this which I may have missed? Thanks again for your help. • Executing system command in php, differs in using broswer and in using command line

  Hi, I have to execute a Linux "more" command in php from a particular offset, format the result and display the result in Browser. My code snippet for the same is : <?php $moreCommand = "more +3693 /var/log/apache2/access_log | grep -v -e '.jpg' -e '.jpeg' -e '.css' -e '.js' -e '.bmp' -e '.ico'| wc -l"; exec($moreCommand, $accessDisplay); echo "No of lines are : $accessDisplay[0] \n"; ? The output at the command line is :: No of lines are : 279 (This is correct) While executing the same command directly in command line, gives me output as 279. I am unable to understand why the output of the same command is wrong in the browser. Its actually giving the word count of lines, ignoring the offset parameter. Please help !! Thanks, Amit
