  • need advice on data center move, communication with both facilities during transition

    We are beginning the process of moving to a new facility. Office and warehouse operations will both be moving, and we must get shipping operations up and running at the new location while continuing to ship from the old location. Our contract with some third-party warehouse tenants requires two business day turnaround (only weekends and holidays excluded), so we can't have major downtime during the move. We would like to keep our 172.16.60/61.xxx internal address space in use throughout the move. Is it possible to keep using this same internal range, and have our existing WatchGuard Firebox 520 and whatever router we get for the other location (preferably the same model) just treat both locations as one network, leaving our host IPs the same throughout the move? Renumbering the servers when they move isn't a big deal, but our wireless terminals for order picking in the warehouse have fixed IPs (and a fixed IP, non-DNS reference to the host they speak with) and would be a massive undertaking to reconfigure when the servers move (each device would have to be reconfigured at least 2 times -- some when we start using them in the new building and the host is still here, all of them in both locations when the host moves to the new building, and the rest when they finally make the move to the new building). We're trying to avoid that if possible.

  • I need help with creating a data structure in PHP

    What I need to do is have a data structure that shows jobs organised into 14 day periods, but only when an id is the same. I've implemented all sorts of stuff, but they have failed miserably. Ideally, maybe a SQL expert could handle all of this in the query. Here is some of my code. I also think I'm doing it wrong because I need to check the earliest date. Is it possible at all to do any of this in the database query? To recap, here is my problem I have a list of jobs with all have a rig_id (many jobs can have the same) and a date. I need the data to be organised into hitches. That is, the rig_id must be the same per hitch, and they must span a 14 day period, in which the next 14 days with the same rig_id will be a new hitch. Can someone please point me on the right track?   • I need to understand why my server turned off

    Our organization was robbed and definitely it was inside job. I was set up. I work as a manager and as system administrator in this organization and everything goes against me. The only clue I have is that someone accidentally or intentionally turned of a server that is in the office indicating that some one was inside at the time that no one should be. This is the only evidence I have that can justify me.  I looked the log files and they show that the Power button was pressed. Can you help me to find out that that was not a bug or systems overheat? How can i achieve that

I mainly used it for Graphic Design (eg, Photoshop, Cinema4d, Illustrator, Flash). I was planning to increase my Memory adding 2 GB more, Pushing it to something like 4GB in total. But just found out that recently that I already have 2x2GB installed and should be 4GB in total. When I looked at the properties of my computer, It said "Installed Memory 2GB". I wonder why is that happening? Is the other ram broken?.. I never the computer casing since I bought. so I didn't realize that I already have 2 x 2gb ram. what can you advice. Thanks!

I assume I could do this by subnet. Could even put the server names into a csv text file for the script to read from and report back to. Lots to ask. I would use net user however I run into local access only. Ideas? Or too many security walls to work?

  • Registry remotley hacked win 7 need help tracking the perp

    I was writing some .VBS code at thhe office that would allow certain file extensions to be downloaded without a warning dialog on a w7x32 system. The system I was writing this on is in a lab on a segmented subnet. All web access is via a proxy server. The only means of accessing my machine is via the internet or from within the labs MSFT AD domain. While writing and testing my code I found a message of sorts. Upon refresing the registry to verify my code changed a dword, instead the message HELLO was written and visible in regedit where the dword value wass called for. I took a screen shot and proceeded to edit my code. This same weird behavior occurred last time I was writing registry code except on another internal server. I understand that remote registry access exists for windows systems. I will block this immediately once I return to the office. What I want to know is, can I trace who made this connection? How would I do this? I suspect the cause of this is the cause of other "odd" behaviors I'm experiencing at work such as losing control of my input director master control for over an hour and unchanged code that all of a sudden fails for no logical region. These failures occur at funny times, whenver I'm about to give a demonstration of my test code. I know this sounds crazy however knowledge of the registry component makes this believable. Once the registry can be accessed, the entire system is compromised. Any help or sanity checking is appreciated.

  • Time Drift on VM servers, need a reliable solution

    We have some windows server 2008 VMware instances on multiple physical servers (hosted) and an application which requires the time to be synced across the server instances. Obviously, VMware has problems with this and we really have never gotten it working any better, we have setup the servers to poll for an NTP update every minute which mitigates the problem (in a fairly crude way). Except that every once in a while, the update will fail (because there's already too much drift) and then windows never does an NTP update afterwards which eventually allows the servers to drift far enough apart that our application breaks, and we notice. We are thinking about changing hosts to Xen servers on approximately the same setup, and I anticipate similar problems. can anyone tell me if Xen has the same time-drift issues VMware does, for guests? can anyone tell me what the best windows server settings are for syncing with an external NTP server to keep things in sync: how frequently do you recommend syncing? (assuming every minute) do you recommend running our own NTP server - even if it has to be on a virtual instance? (assuming not) is there any way to tell windows to sync with the NTP server no matter what the time difference is? any other suggestions for keeping windows servers time in sync?   • Need to have access to my office PC from my laptop hopping through two VPN servers

    Here's the illustration of what I have ( http://clip2net.com/s/2fvar ): My office PC with it's IP of 123.45.e.f. Office VPN, which I will connect to from my VPS to get to my office PC. My own VPS, which I use as a: client to connect to office VPN (through vpnc, which creates a tun0 with 123.45.c.d IP address); VPN server my laptop can connect to (OpenVPN, tun1, 10.8.0.1) My own laptop I will use as a VPN client to connect to VPS OpenVPN server (will create a tun0 with 10.8.0.2 IP address) Now what I have to do is to allow my laptop to connect to at least my office PC, but preferably to all the 123.45.x.x subnet. Please advice on how to best configure OpenVPN, routing, iptables or whatever else is needed on my VPS so that my laptop could gain access to my office PC. P.S. The reason I'm hopping through my VPS is that being connected to the office WiFi I cannot access my office PC and I cannot connect to office VPN (which is another way to access my office PC). The only way to access my PC from office WiFi I have is hopping though an outside network.

  • Need help using a super scope

    I have a windows server 2008 r2 standard running our DCHP, DNS, and AD. also I have (3) HP Pro Curve 2510-G switches (J9280A). Right now our LAN is set up 192.168.50.2-192.168.50.254 on our sub-net (A) and another scope with 192.168.51.2-192.168.51.254 sub-net (B) both have sub-net mask of 255.255.255.0. The same server is our DNS which is 192.168.50.242 and our firewall (watchguard) is the gateway at 192.168.50.1. Right now the sub-net (B) does not have DHCP active so only sub-net (A) is giving a pool. My problem is that we are trying to have open WiFi on our network and i am assuming that i can use the sub-net (B) for that if i activate it and use sub-net (A) for our staff only. I have noticed that when i set up a static on a client pc and set it to 192.168.51.x i cannot use the DNS of 192.168.50.242 however i can use 8.8.8.8 and it works fine, i am guessing that because it is on a different sub-net? Forgive me as i am very new at this and dont know a lot. Is there easy way with the equipment i have to a accommodate wifi for hundreds of people without causing problems for our staff? (multiple same IP address assigns) I appreciate any and all info!

Is there any rule when I should use smart quotes, normal ones and backward ones? Obviously, I need to edit my keyboard layout to get the smart quotes.
