  • Reading server error messages for a URLLoader

    - by Rudy
    Hello, I have an URL loader with the following code: public function getUploadURL():void { var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(); var url:String = getPath(); // Adds time to prevent caching url += "&time=" + new Date().getTime(); request.url = url; request.method = URLRequestMethod.GET; _loader = new URLLoader(); _loader.dataFormat = URLLoaderDataFormat.TEXT; _loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, getBaseURL); _loader.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, onGetUploadURLError); _loader.addEventListener(HTTPStatusEvent.HTTP_STATUS, getHttpStatus); _loader.load(request); } My problem is that this request might be wrong, and so the server will give me a back a 400 Bad Request, with a message to explain the error. If the Event.COMPLETE, I can see some message (a response) back from the server in the "data" field of the Event, but if onGetUploadURLError or getHttpStatus is called, it just says that the error code is 400 but does not show me the message associated with it. The "data" field is undefined in getHttpStatus and it is "" in onGetUploadURLError. On the contrary, in getBaseURL, I get: {"ResponseMetadata":{...}} I checked and I do get a similar response in my browser for a wrong request, but I cannot see it. Any idea how I can please get the message? Thank you very much, Rudy

  • Assigned numbers to movie clip to plug in formula... not working

    - by Matthew MlgPro Harding
    So I am attempting to vertically evenly space these movie clips so I came up with a math formula involving n( the button number) but Its not working. var buttonArray:Array = [ side_banner.btn1, side_banner.btn2, side_banner.btn3, side_banner.btn4]; var buttonCount:uint = buttonArray.length; for (var i:uint=0; i< buttonCount; i++) { buttonArray[i].addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, outputNumber); buttonArray[i].theTrigger = [i + 1]; } function outputNumber(e:MouseEvent):void { trace( e.target.theTrigger); buttonArray[i].y = (((stage.stageHeight - 400)/4)*(e.target.theTrigger)) - ((stage.stageHeight - 400)/4)/2 } But apparently each movie clip doesn't actually have a numerical value just a numeric name... how can I get the "n" btn number to use my formula? Thanks

  • Flex 3: Possible to add a Context Menu to a ItemRenderer inside a DataGrid?

    - by gmoniey
    I have an ItemRenderer that is shared by several applications (inside a DataGrid), and I would like to add a context menu to it (rather than in each application). The renderer is derived from the Canvas class, and the code to create the context menu looks something like: var menuItem:ContextMenuItem = new ContextMenuItem("Test"); menuItem.addEventListener(ContextMenuEvent.MENU_ITEM_SELECT, contextCallback); var customContextMenu:ContextMenu = new ContextMenu(); customContextMenu.hideBuiltInItems(); //hide flash menu customContextMenu.customItems.push(menuItem); this.contextMenu = customContextMenu; However, when I right click on the cell in the datagrid, I get the default Flash Context Menu. Is this not possible?

  • Garbage collection - manually wiping EVERYTHING!

    - by Glycerine
    I have been building a game for a while (nearly done) - But the game needs a replay button and its a big task. I know the GC is dreadful in flash, but I wanted to know if there is a way to wipe EVERYTHING as if the flash app has just begun. Clearing memory, game data - I haven't to worry about game loading as its not really heavy on data. Everything pretty much lives in a DataModel - but I fear if I just clear the all variables, I'll have pockets of orphaned memory. Any forwarding idea would be great. cheers guys.

  • JavaScript socket vs. Flash socket?

    - by Dr.Dredel
    Steve Jobs just posted this article on why Apple rejects Flash... http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/ I agree that javascript and css can be used to replicate some of Flash's animation, though Flash does all sorts of scaling and tweening that is incredibly powerful, and I'm not sure that there's anything comparable in javascript, if there is, I certainly haven't seen it. However, my question is about the socket. Flash has an incredibly powerful openSocket class that allows you to connect to a server and have the server and the client talk back and forth to one another. As far as I know there is no equivalent class in Javascript. Am I mistaken? Is there some secret mystery Ajax class that replicates the openSocket? If not, then that feature alone makes Flash an invaluable tool. I'm interested in all answers though... and yes this IS a programming question! :)

  • Passing GET variables from Flash to PHP with Chinese characters

    - by WillDonohoe
    Hi Everyone, I'm calling a php file from Flash and adding variables afterwards like so: http://www.randomwebsite.com/something.php?title=?? It works fine if I copy and paste this directly into the web browser, however if I call it through flash, the address bar would end up like this: something.php?title=?? Is there anything I can do from PHP or flash to encode/decode the string? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Will

  • A* algorithm works OK, but not perfectly. What's wrong?

    - by Bart van Heukelom
    This is my grid of nodes: I'm moving an object around on it using the A* pathfinding algorithm. It generally works OK, but it sometimes acts wrongly: When moving from 3 to 1, it correctly goes via 2. When going from 1 to 3 however, it goes via 4. When moving between 3 and 5, it goes via 4 in either direction instead of the shorter way via 6 What can be wrong? Here's my code (AS3): public static function getPath(from:Point, to:Point, grid:NodeGrid):PointLine { // get target node var target:NodeGridNode = grid.getClosestNodeObj(to.x, to.y); var backtrace:Map = new Map(); var openList:LinkedSet = new LinkedSet(); var closedList:LinkedSet = new LinkedSet(); // begin with first node openList.add(grid.getClosestNodeObj(from.x, from.y)); // start A* var curNode:NodeGridNode; while (openList.size != 0) { // pick a new current node if (openList.size == 1) { curNode = NodeGridNode(openList.first); } else { // find cheapest node in open list var minScore:Number = Number.MAX_VALUE; var minNext:NodeGridNode; openList.iterate(function(next:NodeGridNode, i:int):int { var score:Number = curNode.distanceTo(next) + next.distanceTo(target); if (score < minScore) { minScore = score; minNext = next; return LinkedSet.BREAK; } return 0; }); curNode = minNext; } // have not reached if (curNode == target) break; else { // move to closed openList.remove(curNode); closedList.add(curNode); // put connected nodes on open list for each (var adjNode:NodeGridNode in curNode.connects) { if (!openList.contains(adjNode) && !closedList.contains(adjNode)) { openList.add(adjNode); backtrace.put(adjNode, curNode); } } } } // make path var pathPoints:Vector.<Point> = new Vector.<Point>(); pathPoints.push(to); while(curNode != null) { pathPoints.unshift(curNode.location); curNode = backtrace.read(curNode); } pathPoints.unshift(from); return new PointLine(pathPoints); } NodeGridNode::distanceTo() public function distanceTo(o:NodeGridNode):Number { var dx:Number = location.x - o.location.x; var dy:Number = location.y - o.location.y; return Math.sqrt(dx*dx + dy*dy); }

  • Providing raw MP3/AAC data to Flex/Flash from a custom container

    - by Joonas Trussmann
    Having had a quick look at the Flex docs I can't seem to find any reference to providing audio content to be played from a custom (possibly encrypted - don't worry, it's not that evil) container format. Is this possible and if so, could someone point me in the right direction. Or if that's not possible, some way to hook into the disk/network (disk is much more important in this case) I/O of the sound playing mechanism to provide a supported container in memory from a custom wrapper.

  • How do I test if a property exists on a object before reading its value?

    - by Jeremy Rudd
    I'm attempting to read a property on a series of Sprites. This property may or may not be present on these objects, and may not even be declared, worse than being null. My code is: if (child["readable"] == true){ // this Sprite is activated for reading } And so Flash shows me: Error #1069: Property selectable not found on flash.display.Sprite and there is no default value. Is there a way to test if a property exists before reading its value? Something like: if (child.isProperty("readable") && child["readable"] == true){ // this Sprite is activated for reading }

  • Event handling for keyboard strokes

    - by david
    Hey, I'm trying to get familiar with the whole keyboard event detection thing. Here's my sample code. <fx:Script> <![CDATA[ import flash.events.KeyboardEvent; import mx.controls.Alert; private function init():void{ addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN,reportKeyDown); } private function reportKeyDown(event:KeyboardEvent):void { Alert.show("a key was pressed"); } ]]> </fx:Script> As you can see, I'm at stage 0 of playing around with it, but it won't work. Anyone has any idea what I should be doing instead? Thanks

  • Binding key/value pairs loaded from xml

    - by Hichem
    I want to load key/values configuration pairs stored in XML file. To bind a collection of data i know i need to use the ArrayList class, but the problem is that i want to be able to bind the loaded values using their corresponding keys and not by their indexes in the ArrayList object. For example i want to be able to do this : <mx:Text id="errorText" text="{Config.params['someKey']}" /> instead of : <mx:Text id="errorText" text="{Config.params[0]}" /> where Config.params is ArrayList (obviously i couldn't use ArrayList since it doesn't allow selecting a value by key) So the question is how to bind the key/value pairs loaded form XML. I don't want to go manually set variables, i want to bind them so when they are loaded the are set automatically. Did anyone had to do something like that ?

  • Security sandbox violation when connecting to Socket from flex

    - by KensoDev
    Hi, I am using a Socket (not xmlSocket) connection between flex applications and the server pushing messages. Now, when I connect from the local machine to the server everything is working file and running, connection is succesful and I get data back and forth. When I upload the application (flex) to the server and run it from there, I get a security sandBox violation message. Note: 1. I do have a crossdomain file with * wildcard both on port and on domain. 2. I created a Securiy.allowDomain("*") as well. Another thing. I also created another listener on that same server, listening to connections for port 843 (default) and this service just waited for a connection send policy file to the client and that's it. That did not solve the problem as well... That's next? What should I do to fix the problem? Appreciate your help. Avi

  • AS3 and the loader class

    - by Acti67
    Hi, I write here, because after looking for a solution, I could not resolve my error... var test:MovieClip; var sign:Loader = new Loader(); sign.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, completSIGN); sign.load(new URLRequest("http://files.zebest-3000.com/278374/3011/3011.swf")); function completSIGN(e:Event):void { test = MovieClip(e.target.content); addChild(test); } This is the error: TypeError: Error #1009: Il est impossible d'accéder à la propriété ou à la méthode d'une référence d'objet nul. at Main::StateManager() So, the movie (some videos work perfectly and others not) does not want to load in my container ; it seems there is a problem in the mapping... and can't modify the distant movie. Is there an other method of loading a movie inside one other (I have try also to load with bytearray, but it's the same)? Can we catch this error and relocate the instance to help him to find the correct way?
