• Can a proxy server cache SSL GETs? If not, would response body encryption suffice?

  Can a (||any) proxy server cache content that is requested by a client over https? As the proxy server can't see the querystring, or the http headers, I reckon they can't. I'm considering a desktop application, run by a number of people behind their companies proxy. This application may access services across the internet and I'd like to take advantage of the in-built internet caching infrastructure for 'reads'. If the caching proxy servers can't cache SSL delivered content, would simply encrypting the content of a response be a viable option? I am considering all GET requests that we wish to be cachable be requested over http with the body encrypted using asymmetric encryption, where each client has the decryption key. Anytime we wish to perform a GET that is not cachable, or a POST operation, it will be performed over SSL.

  hi All, I am new with rails and i am using "devise" gem for authentication purposes. At first i add a new user through default sign up page (E.g./users/sign_up) Then, i made "sign_up" page only available to signed_in users by following instructions from Devise before filter that prevents access to "new_user_registration_path" unless user is signed-in Now, after sign in process when i try open sign up page it always directs me to root_path! How can i access sign up page?   with the push to leverage visual studio and dotnet with office based solutions, especially excel, where is the best article or information on how having office sheet with additional binaries and assemblies is sharable. Do this external code get packaged with the spreadsheet what if people start emailing the spreadsheet around. Is there any overhead of this additional assemblies. Is there risk of the binaries getting detached from the spreadsheet It seems like microsoft has been pushing VSTO for over 5 years now but you read lots of mixed reviews and issues. Are we at the point where companies that do large VBA excel solutions can fully migrate over to dotnet without any real worries?

  Hello I am using MOSS with ADS. I want to display Terms of Use page before the user can login into SharePoint with two button i.e. "Accept","Decline". If user select "Accept" he will be directed to sharepoint site, if not to our companies intranet front page. This will be applicable for the current session. ie. If the user has signed off, then it should prompt the terms of use again when user hits the MOSS site but once accepted user should not get this page again until he/she signs off. Please advise.   Hi, Company I work for are one of the largest betting companies in Europe and the website has thousands of lines of JavaScript on all our pages. Lately Internet Explorer versions earlier than version 9 are running painfully slow and I want to be able to monitor what parts of a page load (including scripts) that are slow. I know that IE are slower in general and has DOM API issues etc. What I want to accomplish is a way to quickly identify slow parts and see if we can replace the code with IE specific code that will render with higher performance.   I am using ASP.Net MVC but this probably applies to all MVC patterns in general. My problem, for example I have companies and in each company I have a list of contacts. When I have selected a company I can see its details and a list of the contacts for that company. When I want to add a new contact for that company, should the implementation of that action go into the company controller as an "AddContact" action or should it go into the contact controller into a "New" action and we pass the Company ID in the URL? What is the usual way of dealing with this sort of thing in ASP.Net MVC? Is there a better stategy?

• Protect my PHP App

  Hello all, I have developed an app and its written in PHP (with a bunch of SQL scripts), this app will be used by a few small companies. For them to use it, I will have to install Apache and SQL Server for them. Every method I have thought has fallen short of what I need. I was actually just hoping to use ZendGuard or IonCube but they don't support PHP 5.3.x. Is there a simpler method where I can maybe store a key in the database and make the app run only when it knows its on that server? Maybe create a key based on some random numbers/letters and the machine name, sql server host name and encode/decode this when ever the system is in use? Thanks all for any help or ideas

• Is a Service Bus a good option to communicate with multiple external servers?

  We are developing an application that communicates, via web services or TCP/IP sockets, with multiple servers (up to 50 different external companies). Basically, the exchanged messages are the same (XML), but depending on the inputs of our application we should call 1 or more external servers. The benefits we would expect of introducing a Service Bus in the architecture would be: 1- Remove the need to manage all point-to-point configurations (all the 50 endpoints); 2- Simplify the communication layer of our application by having only one server to talk to; Is a Service Bus a good architectural option for this scenario? What is the best (simplest) Service Bus for this kind of communication? I read a few MSDN articles on Azure Service Bus Relay, but it didn’t seem to fit our needs. Am I wrong? Thanks for your help.

• A couple problems re: CodeIgniter emailer

  I have some problems with the email system for CodeIgniter: First, the emails I send out (registration, confirmations) are getting caught in standard spam filters in gmail and other mail clients. How do I get around this? How do companies like Facebook get their emails through consistently? Second, the mailer is working locally but once we deploy it it no longer runs (doesn't send emails) but all the other forms run just fine. Anyone ever run into a problem like this? Infor PM website It is apparently used by over 1,000 companies around the world, but I have found scant information about it on the net except for what's on their own website. It covers the whole range of data warehousing and BI functions with: an OLAP environment an ETL tool a report writer (called Application Studio) an add-on to Excel to connect to the data in the cubes through a pivot table etc Does anyone have any experience with using this package? How does it compare to the big players in BI (Cognos, Microsoft SSAS, Business Objects, etc). Any pitfalls I should know about? On the other hand, does it do anything better than its competitors?

  I'm building a form in my CakePHP project that lets you edit a company's information. Among all other things, every company has at least one geographical area in which the company operates, but it may have more. The areas are selected individually using select dropdowns. The relationship between companies and areas is HABTM, because I need to be able to change the amount of associated areas without modifying the database. Currently the associations and corresponding data are handled separately, which isn't really a problem but I was wondering how it could be done using as much Cake's own 'automagic' functionality as possible?

  I plan to pick up Silverlight in the future. Possibility of going into Microsoft WPF. Currently learning Objective-C 2.0 w/ Cocoa. I already know Pros and Cons of ASP.NET MVC vs ASP.NET Webforms. What I want to know is what would be more "efficient" for me to learn given the circumstances above? By efficient I mean learning one design pattern once and then re-using it. Objective-C I believe uses MVC approach? What about Silverlight? WPF? So what do you think? Also as a side question is it true that ASP.NET Webforms is often used by freelancers/small companies and ASP.NET MVC in large enterprises?

• My program is getting a false positive from AVG.

  My program is getting a false positive from AVG. Its just our companies branded version of Ultra VNC. Its only this one company that's identifying it as a virus and we've been using the same copy of that program for almost a year. I know its possible to tell this Anti Virus program the VNC client is safe, but I can't do that for all of our clients. I've tried to find a way to contact this company to see if they can do something to prevent this from happening, but I'm not getting anywhere. The problem is, if the first few chars match something and then you enter a char that should "break" any match, it just keeps the drop down in place with the results for the last matched char... make sense? Would this be something I needed to change in the script that returns the data or something in the jquery? thanks!

• Why are mainframes still around?

  It's a question you've probably asked or been asked several times. What's so great about Mainframes? The answer you've probably been given is "they are fast" "normal computers can't process as many 'transactions' per second as they do". Jeese, I mean it's not like Google is running a bunch of Mainframes and look how many transactions/sec they do! The question here really is "why?". When I ask this question to the mainframe devs I know, they can't answer, they simply restate "It's fast". With the advent of Cloud Computing, I can't imagine mainframes being able to compete both cost-wise and mindshare-wise (aren't all the Cobol devs going to retire at some point, or will offshore just pickup the slack?). And yet, I know a few companies that still pump out net-new Cobol/Mainframe apps, even for things we could do easily in say .NET and Java. Anyone have a real good answer as to why "The Mainframe is faster", or can point me to some good articles relating to the topic?

• Using SVN alone or in small workgroups - workflow approach?

  Hi everybody, I have spent some months working on a web application and we're come close to production stage. It's soon time to expand the development group with 1-3 people on this project. I have not too much experience on working with SVN, but It's obviously the choice for a big part of the larger companies out there, so I am guessing that the pros of SVN without a doubt outweights the time spent on commit/check ins / check outs etc. The workflow seems to become a bit more complicated with SVN, and even though I have read Version Control with Subversion by O'Reilly Media and I am not sure yet if it's overkill to use SVN for any reasons besides backup when developing alone or in a small (1-3 people) workgroup? How do you do it? What's your workflow with version control while working alone or in small workgroups? Thanks!

  I have a reason to do that. I have recorded a voice message, attached with email, and sent it to several companies. One company, takes that voice message/email, and send it to millions of people. I want to stop resend of my email/voice recording. I am C# develop, one of my client asked me this question. I asked him to introduce verification codes, so that nobody will be able to listen the voice but still emails would be sent to millions of poeple. Any workaround for this problem?
