• Getting started with silverlight 4

  i'm interested in picking up silverlight as another tool to use when appropriate, and i'm looking to get some suggestions on the best way to get started. i have visual studio 2010, and can purchase expression blend if necessary (is it out of beta?), though i haven't quite been able to grasp the relationship between them. are there any good books, tutorials, blogs etc that i should use to familiarize myself with silverlight 4?

• drawing images and lines over UIScrollView

  I'm programming an app in which one of the ViewControllers is showing an UIScrollView that shows an image. I'd like to load an image (pushpin in png format) and draw it (and delete it) in some points of the UIScrollView image. I'd also would like to draw bezier paths in that image (and deleting them). I've programmed several apps but this is the first time I face graphic programming and don't know where to start from. Any suggestions? Thanks!

• Restore the object's properties after applying in Blender 3D (apply location/rotation/scale).

  Hi There, I've made a game map in blender and accidentally applied the objects transformations. I don't really understand how it works. My guess is that the properties getting zeroed because the origin of the object is being set to its center. I've tried the "clear origin" option, but it doesn't work. Any suggestions?   I've generally implemented sequence number generation using database sequences in the past. e.g. Using Postgres SERIAL type http://neilconway.org/docs/sequences/ I'm curious though as how to generate sequence numbers for large distributed systems where there is no database. Does anybody have any experience or suggestions of a best practice for achieving sequence number generation in a thread safe manner for multiple clients?

• Tooltips are possible in dropdowns in IE6?

  Hi, Am using a dropdown control in my web application. I want tooltips to be displayed as i scroll down the list in the dropdown, and the tooltips should be the text that the focus is currently on. This works fine in IE7 and Mozilla, but IE6 does not display tooltips. Any suggestions here? Thanks in advance, Geetha

• Populate an SQL Server 2k8 with Oracle Loader files

  Hi folks. Here's the problem: I have a project that needs to be migrated to Microsoft SQL Server 2008. We have data in text files for the Oracle SQL Loader and now we need to get that data into the SQL Server DB. I could write a program that converts everything into INSERT statements but there has to be a more comfortable way to so this. Any suggestions? PS: I don't think my company wants to buy additional Software to do this job so that's out.

I like the VS syntax highlighting and auto-indentation features but additionally would like advanced features like: contextual info and help, collapsible JavaScript blocks, implicit symbol understanding for searching, refactoring and that kind of thing; also warnings and errors for the js code. • Unknown address suggestion

  Usually when you try to add a marker to an unknown/ambiguous address you just get an error from the api. It would be much nicer if i could display a list of suggestions related to the address that was not found. The Google maps site has this feature but i do not know how to do with the api. Any help would be appreciated.

  Hi all, I have a java project in Eclipse which includes a couple of external jar files. These external jar files are being rebuilt through a different process (not eclipse, ant). Those changes are not being reflected on the eclipse project even if I refresh the project. If I close the project and reopen, it works. • Launching matlab remotely on windows via ssh? Impossible?

  Howdy, I am trying to run matlab remotely on windows via OpenSSH installed with Cygwin, but launching matlab in windows without the GUI seems to be impossible. If i am logged in locally, I can launch matlab -nodesktop -nodisplay -r script, and matlab will launch up a stripped down GUI and do the command. However, this is impossible to do remotely via ssh, as, matlab needs to display the GUI. Does anyone have any suggestions or work arounds? Thanks, Bob

I'm looking for alternatives to the Delphi suite (so don't give it as an answer), something that would allow me to write Windows GUI applications with ease. I don't care about the language, as long as it gets the job done, but I would appreciate if your suggestions avoid functional languages. Even better if it abstracts the windowing system with something more simple than the winAPI.
