• Launching matlab remotely on windows via ssh? Impossible?

- by Bob E.
Howdy, I am trying to run matlab remotely on windows via OpenSSH installed with Cygwin, but launching matlab in windows without the GUI seems to be impossible. If i am logged in locally, I can launch matlab -nodesktop -nodisplay -r script, and matlab will launch up a stripped down GUI and do the command. However, this is impossible to do remotely via ssh, as, matlab needs to display the GUI. Does anyone have any suggestions or work arounds? Thanks, Bob

• how/resources to compile a procedural language into [sql]

- by Philip
I am looking into the possibility/feasibility/resources for building a cross compiler which takes a procedural or Object Oriented language like C, or Java and compiling it into SQL. I understand that the advantage of SQL code is performing set operations which is fundamentally different from procedural languages which generally process 1 at a time. If anyone has done this before, or if it is thought of as too complicated to do or any other ideas/concerns/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Philip

• NHibernate criteria construction

- by brianberns
I am trying to recreate something like the following SQL using NHibernate criteria: select Range, count(*) from ( select case when ent.ID between 'A' and 'N' then 'A-M' else 'Other' end as Range from Subject ) tbl group by tbl.Range I am able to create the inner select as follows: session.CreateCriteria<Subject>() .SetProjection( Projections.Conditional( Expression.Between("Name", "A", "N"), Projections.Constant("A-N"), Projections.Constant("Other"))) .List(); However, I can't figure out how to pipe those results into a grouping by row count. Any suggestions? Thanks. -- Brian

• I'm looking for a better solution on importing catalog data into Adobe InDesign

- by John Thompson
The last time I produced a catalog I used a software called EasyCatalog that worked with Adobe InDesign to merge data from a spreadsheet with graphics. I wouldn’t say it was completely successful. I know of one other catalog building software called Catalog Builder by Computer Pundits. I'm just looking for any suggestions from someone who might have gone through this process on what software I should use.

Help! My boyfriend's birthday is next month. Since he is a programmer, I'd love to make him a cake with the code for "happy birthday" (and perhaps something awesome) written in icing on top. Not being a programmer myself, I have no idea where to begin. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

• Do any parsers exist for the Oracle DML table_reference?

- by JavaRocky
I wish to find out what tables references are used in a DML. I prefer to use an oracle package as it can be self contained in the database. But other suggestions welcome. Open source very welcome. Here is the link to the syntax diagram of the table_reference definition: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_10002.htm#i2126863 Do any parsers exist?

• Profiling python C extensions

- by pygabriel
I have developed a python C-extension that receives data from python and compute some cpu intensive calculations. It's possible to profile the C-extension? The problem here is that writing a sample test in C to be profiled would be challenging because the code rely on particular inputs and data structures (generated by python control code). Do you have any suggestions?

• Need to replace HTML single-quote entity in MySQL

- by modulaaron
Hi, I currently have the following MySQL statement to replace the HTML entity for a single quote with an actual single quote: update photo_galleries replace(title, ''', '\''); This statement returns an error. I have tried adding additional backslashes, but this does not help at all. I want to run this command using pure SQL (no PHP, etc.). Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated. Thanks.

• Get the path of the .dmg from the mount point

- by wbg
I'm looking for a way to get the .dmg path of a mounted disk image with just its mount point. I want to write a "simple" Finder service that ejects the disk image and trashes the accompanying .dmg. The ejecting is trivial, but I'm at a loss as to how to figure out the path of the .dmg, given just the mount point. diskutil doesn't seem to know or isn't saying. It's for a script, so AppleScript- or shell-based suggestions are preferred.

I have done a lot of web searching and I can't find out what could be the cause of these errors. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Hi everyone, recently this post inspired me, I want to track my own life, too. I take a look at my cellphone's clock every time when go to sleep or after wake up, so I need some program to hook to my cellphone's on/off button, and log the timestamp when I press it. I am using WM6.5 on a HTC TyTN II. If there is existing software that can do this with few settings and tweaks it would be nice, but I can also write code myself. Any suggestions?
