  Hey guys, so I have two tables. They are pictured below. I have a master table "all_reports". And a user table "user list". The master table may have users that do not exist in the user list. I need to add them to the user list. The master table may have duplicates in them (check picture). The master list does not contain all the information that the user list requires (no manager, no HR status, no department.. again check picture).

  Hey guys, I'm currently thinking about caching most of my viewdata excpt user specific data after a user logs on. I thought the simplest way was caching the ViewData object itself and adding the user specific data after it was loaded. Are there any downsides of this approach? • iphone - Can't uninstall app on device

  hey guys, I am testing my app on my jailbreaked iPhone and i noticed something strange. When i want to uninstall it on device i got no cross to delete the app. All the other apps (not mines) have the white circled cross. Whereas on the simulator i am able to delete my app. Is it because i run it on a jailbreak with a codesign workaround? Or maybe i am missing something in the app plist.   Hey guys I was wondering if anyone could help me with an issue im having, basically id like to have Account.create after a PayPal notification is received, There is a simple cart model which corresponds to line_items within the cart so add_account_to_market would look like this in pseudo code def add_account_to_market if status == "Completed" find the line items(via cart_id) that correspond to the cart.id that just been paid create an account with user_id set to the current carts user id end end Ive never tried to do something like this in Rails and its not working, Ive been pulling my hair out all night trying to fix this, hopefully someone can help or point me in the right direction.   Hey Everyone, For a long time I have been using XHTML1.1 because I thought I was cool (yeah right). However, today I read Ian Hickson's Article about how everyone uses the wrong MIME type with XHTML and it opened my eyes a lot. I happen to be one of those people who are serving XHTML with text/html MIME, because like a lot of people, W3C says its "ok" to serve it this way. At the top of that article he says that "now" he would serve it using the HTML5 doctype (!DOCTYPE HTML). What are your thoughts about doing this? If I did not use unsupported functionality, would it be ok? What would the MIME type be in this case? Thanks for any help, Metropolis

My question: i want to design a database, that will be used for a production facility of different types of products where each product has its own (number of) parameters. because i want the serial numbers to be in one tabel for overview purposes i have a problem with these different paraeters . One solution could be AEV, but it has its downsides, certainly because we have +- 5 products with every product +- 20.000 serial numbers (records). it looks a bit overkill to me... I just don't know how one could design a database so that you have an attribute in a mastertable that says: 'hey, you could find details of this record in THAT detail-table". 'in a way that you qould easely query the results) currenty i am using Visual Basic & Acces 2007. but i'm going to Visual Basic & MySQL. thanks for your help. Bob

• How to make a mutable ItemizedOverlay

  Hey all, I would like to make a Google map overlay with changable pins. An easy way to visualize this would be to think of a near real time overlay, where the pins are constantly changing location. However, I can't seem to think of a safe way to do this with the ItemizedOverlay. The problem seems to be the call to populate - If size() is called by some maps thread, and then my data changes, then the result when the maps call accesses getItem() can be an IndexOutOfBoundsException. Can anyone think of a better solution than overloading populate and wrapping super.populate in a synchronized block? Perhaps I could get better luck using a normal Overlay? The Itemized one seems to exist to manage the data for you, perhaps I am making a fundamental mistake by using it? Thanks for any help, my brain is hurting! Hamy

  Hey, Say I have 3 classes class foo1 { List prop1;} class foo2 { foo3 prop2;} class foo3{ int Id;} now I want to select distinct foo2's from foo1 and get Id of foo3. I need to write a HQL stmt for the same. I tried the following select c.Id from (select distinct(a.prop1) from foo1.prop1 as a ) as b inner join b.prop2 as c This throws an 'Antlr.Runtime.NoViableAltException How do you suggest I should go about the same. Please note the inner subquery is working fine. So if I have made some mistakes in there please ignore that. I need a method to do the latter. Thanks in Advance.

  Hey guys, does someone know how to receive a file on android via RFCOMM? I'm a newby to bluetooth issues, so please have patience with me. I'm looking for an approach to receive data via RFCOMM as a stream and store it somewhere on my phone. Saving data is not the problem, it works quite fine. The main issue is the implementation of the connection and the reliable retrieval of the data... • Java M4A atom tagging free space issue

  Hey, I've been trying to be able to read and write iTunes style M4A atoms and while I've successfully done the reading part, I've come to a bit of a halt in regards to the free space atoms. I figured that I should be able edit and shift the padding around to accommodate writing an atom with more data than it originally had. I've been stuck on this for about a day now, and I've been trying to figure out how to determine the closest free space atom with enough size to accommodate the new data. so far I have: private freeAtom acquireFreeSpaceAtom( long position ) { long atomStart = Long.MAX_VALUE; freeAtom atom = null; for( freeAtom a : freeSpace ) { if( Math.abs( position - atomStart ) > Math.abs( position - a.getAtomStart() ) ) atomStart = ( atom = a ).getAtomStart(); } return atom; } That code only takes into account the closest free space atom and completely disregards the fact that it should be greater than or equal to a certain size, but I can't quite figure out how I should check for both closeness and size efficiently.

  Hey, I'm trying to figure out how to instantiate a 4 bit bitset based on a hex character. For instance, If I have a character with value 'F', I want to create a bitset of size 4 initialized to 1111 or if it is A, i want to initialize it to 1010. I could use a bunch of if statements like so: fn(char c) { bitset<4 temp; if(c == 'F') temp.set(); //... if(c == '9') { temp.set(1); temp.set(3); } //... } This isn't efficient, is there a way of easily converting the string to a decimal integer and constructing the bitset using the last 4 bits of the int? • C# programmer - necessary to learn C or C++?

  Hey, I have been programming now for a couple of years. But never any low level language. I started off with some java and some VB. Then I went over to VB.NET and now for a while I have been writing C#. As you see, I have never written any low level language where I had to deal with memory management. Is this something I should do, like a route of passage that every programmer should go through? I am a bit keen on trying to perhaps writing in assembler directly. This would suit me personally good as I have 2 parents that have been writing assembler for ages. Is it necessary for a professional programmer these days to know how to manually manage memory?

• Trying to get simple jquery animations on a site I created in Dreamweaver

  Hey guys, another question. I'm trying to do some basic jQuery stuff for my final project. I'll be using it to modify my already existing site created in Dreamweaver a few months ago. However, no matter how I source the framework, it just won't take regardless of whether I host my own copy or link to someone else's like Google's. I'm including my jQuery function calls within my already existing .js file that includes some auto generated functions. I also tried creating a new .js specifically for my jQuery functions and still nothing. I realize this is vague, but any tips? Do I need another framework for jQuery to work off of to make animations like .fadeIn() or .slideDown()? Thanks guys and gals!

• Python proper use of __str__ and __repr__

  Hey, My current project requires extensive use of bit fields. I found a simple, functional recipe for bit a field class but it was lacking a few features I needed, so I decided to extend it. I've just got to implementing __str__ and __repr__ and I want to make sure I'm following convention. __str__ is supposed to be informal and concice, so I've made it return the bit field's decimal value (i.e. str(bit field 11) would be "3". __repr__ is supposed to be a official representation of the object, so I've made it return the actual bit string (i.e. repr(bit field 11) would be "11"). In your opinion would this implementation meet the conventions for str and repr? Additionally, I have used the bin() function to get the bit string of the value stored in the class. This isn't compatible with Python < 2.6, is there an alternative method? Cheers, Pete

  Hey all, i am in need of some help with trying to figure out how to go about checking the users session and seeing if they are still logged in or not. The problem being is because i have a static page that pretty much loads everything into "tabs" using jquery. So when they use navigates the page, it really never leaves that same page they started out on. Hints my problem in trying to determine if they are still logged in or not when they click on update their information on their profile or whatnot. Any suggestions/help would be great! :o) David

• ActionScript 2.0 problem with the object's _visible parameter

  Hey guys, I've been trying to build something simple in Flash 8, and I stumbled across something weird I cannot explain: I have an object, and at some point of the program, I want it to be visible (it is invisible at first), so I write: _root.myObj._visible = true; _root.gameOver.swapDepths(_root.getNextHighestDepth()); //so it will be on the top and this works fine, the object becomes visible and etc. What I planned to happen next is that the user presses a button on that same object, and the object will go invisible: on(release) { trace(_root.myObj._visible); _root.myObj._visible = false; trace(_root.myObj._visible); _root.gotoAndPlay("three"); } The trace returns at first true and later on false, so the command works, but oddly the object stays visible, that's what I don't understand.   Hey Guys, having an issue with linq, I am basically doing the following but it is saying it is "UserProfile does not contain definition for Username" in the current context where I wrote "u.Username" but it does exist I have added UserProfile table to MyDbml.dbml and if I connect to another table it works fine. • Java library for converting Word documents to PDFs or images

  Hey there What I need to do is convert Microsoft Word .doc files to PDFs or images. This has to occur in Java. I have done a fair bit of investigation already. I've tried Davisor Publishor but it doesn't give me the accuracy that I need - for instance text overlapping in the output document. Adobe has something called LiveCycle. Anyone tried this? It looks quite massive and a bit of overkill (its an "integrated server solution"). Sounds expensive. Saying that, it doesn't have to be free, or cheap.
