• Are there some good and modern alternatives to Javadoc?

  Let's face it: You don't need to be a designer to see that default Javadoc looks ugly. There are some resources on the web which offer re-styled Javadoc. But the default behaviour represents the product and should be as reasonably good-looking. Another problem is the fact that the usability of Javadoc is not up-to-date compared to other similar resources. Especially huge projects are hard to navigate using Firefox's quick search. Practical question: Are there any standalone (desktop) applications which are able to browse existing Javadoc in a more usable way than a browser would? I'm thinking about something like Mono's documentation browser. Theoretical question: Does anyone know, if there some plans to evolve Javadoc, in a somehow-standardized way? • Generating dynamic C# based on textual data into the runtime?

  Is there a quick and easy way to load textual C# into a program. I would like to load the LINQ from the database as an Expression and run it against some data (SQL or Array/List don't mind). I know I can do it using the C# CodeDom/ExpressionTree builder with Assembly Loading and Creating AppDomains, but this seems very long winded. Is there an easier way. I thought with the advent of .net 3.5 that the ExpressionTree would come to my aid, but I now realise that I have to write a parser to use this. Maybe there is a new trick in 4.0? Something along the lines of a dynamic languages Parse would be great. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

• Catch Id (INT AUTO INCREMENT) of a Record after INSERT INTO Statement

  This is my first time I use MySQL as datastorage for my C# Application, as I've seen that there is no UNIQUEIDENTIFIER type as in SQL server I decieded to use INT with AUTO_INCREMENT, my problem is now if I execute a INSERT, how may I get the ID of the Record I just added. My quick and dirty solution has been to execute a SELECT MAX(ID) FROM table Statement. But this doesn't seem consistent. I belive there is a better solution something like mysql_insert_id() (PHP). Any Idea how to resolve this in C#?

• Plotting 500 US cities to a map

  I have 500 US cities in a MySQL table. I have the city name, state, longitude and latitude. I want to visually see these cities plotted on a map of the US. How can I do this? Are they any free tools available? Google Maps or Google Earth maybe? Obviously, it would take forever to plot each city individually. So I need a quick way of doing it, either through a program or by exporting the table as a spreadsheet and uploading it into some kind of generator that will do the plotting for me. A quick wikipedia search shows: RPC: Remote procedure call (RPC) is an Inter-process communication technology that allows a computer program to cause a subroutine or procedure to execute in another address space (commonly on another computer on a shared network) without the programmer explicitly coding the details for this remote interaction. Web Service: Web services are typically application programming interfaces (API) or web APIs that are accessed via Hypertext Transfer Protocol and executed on a remote system hosting the requested services. Web services tend to fall into one of two camps: Big Web Services[1] and RESTful Web Services. I am not quite clear what the real difference between the two things. It seems that one thing could belongs to RPC and is kind of web service at the same time. Is Web Service a higher level representation of RPC?

  I've a database used to store items and properties about these items. The number of properties is extensible, thus there is a join table to store each property associated to an item value. CREATE TABLE `item_property` ( `property_id` int(11) NOT NULL, `item_id` int(11) NOT NULL, `value` double NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`property_id`,`item_id`), KEY `item_id` (`item_id`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 COLLATE=utf8_unicode_ci; This database has two goals : storing (which has first priority and has to be very quick, I would like to perform many inserts (hundreds) in few seconds), retrieving data (selects using item_id and property_id) (this is a second priority, it can be slower but not too much because this would ruin my usage of the DB). Currently this table hosts 1.6 billions entries and a simple count can take up to 2 minutes... Inserting isn't fast enough to be usable. I'm using Zend_Db to access my data and would really be happy if you don't suggest me to develop any php side part. Thanks for your advices !

• low latency data link pc to android

  can anyone recommend a method for low latency bi-directional com link between my pc app and android slave app. the app i have works now via wifi but the latency is too slow (about 300mS), i'm looking to get it down to 10mS or so. the android is acting like a glorified remote control to the game on the pc. the apk displays a low res image and sends button presses back to the game and the round trip need to be quick i'm thinking the only option beside the network, is to connect a usb cable but i don't see a lot of support for that path and not even sure it would be lower latency than wifi any ideas please?

I have to hit _ serval times. • MVC Model Binding to a collection where collection does not begin with a 0 index

  I'm trying to perform remote validation on a property of an item within a collection. The validation works OK on the first item of the collection. The http request to the validation method looks like: /Validation/IsImeiAvailable?ImeiGadgets[0].ImeiNumber=123456789012345 However on the 2nd item where the url looks like below, the validation doesn't work /Validation/IsImeiAvailable?ImeiGadgets[1].ImeiNumber=123456789012345 Now I'm pretty sure the reason for this, is that binding wont work on a collection that doesn't begin with a zero index. My validation method has a signature as below: public JsonResult IsImeiAvailable([Bind(Prefix = "ImeiGadgets")] Models.ViewModels.ImeiGadget[] imeiGadget) Because I'm passing an item within a collection I have to bind like this yet what I'm really passing is just a single value. Is there anyway I can deal with this other than just binding it as a plain old query string. Thanks Edit: This is the quick fix to get the Imei variable but I'd rather use the model binding: string imeiNumber = Request.Url.AbsoluteUri.Substring(Request.Url.AbsoluteUri.IndexOf("=")+1);

• Fault exception trashes a register causing a crash in [NSInvocation invoke]

  I have an NSOperation which fetches some objects from a core data persistent store and sums up a few totals. Sometimes an object is deleted while the operation in in progress, so a core data fault exception occurs. I try/catch the exception while summing to ignore it because I just want to skip objects that cannot be faulted in. However, when one of these fault exceptions occurs (and I swallow it) there is a crash after the invocation returns in [NSInvocation invoke]. It's a bad memory access when dereferencing the value in r10 which according to GDB on a successful run points to one of these: (gdb) x 0x38388348 0x38388348 <OBJC_IVAR_$_NSInvocation._retdata>: 0x00000008 If a fault exception occured a value of 0x02 is in the register which causes the crash. A quick google search tells me that r10 should be saved by the callee, meaning it is not being restored by whatever code is changing it when this exception occurs. Can anybody explain this? I'm not an expert when it comes to these kinds of low-level details

  Hello, I've recently chose Kohana for a new project I'm doing And quite frankly, it's going a bit slow due to lack of resources. I've stumbled again and again on problems that I can't find a solution to Examples are probably the hardest to come by, so I'm considering Switching, especially because I'm only starting and I am still able to do it without to much trouble. I've been looking at CodeIgniter, although I know that Kohana is a branch out, CodeIgniter has far more examples and documentation, I'm wondering about your opinion. Edit: I would love to see some complete Kohana sites example, so that I would have a really quick reference. Nothing like already-working code to give you inspiration.

We're currently considering two "types" of platforms - RAD (workflow engine, integrated UI, small cores of "technology plugins" to the workflows, automatic persisting of state...) like SalesForce.com / Service-Now.com and "cloud based" (EC2 / AppEngine...). While I have a few ideas on where to start, I'd like your opinions - how would you evaluate platforms for an enterprise suite of products? What factors would you consider? How would you eliminate weak options quickly enough to be able to concentrate on the few strong ones? Also interesting is how would you compare enterprise RAD (proven technology, quick to develop - but tends to look "the same as the competition") to cloud-based technology (lots of "buzz", not that many competitors - easy to justify to management, but probably lacking (?) enterprise tools and experience). As said before - I have a few ideas, but would like to see some answers before I post mine so I wouldn't drive the discussion to a specific place. RB.

• What's the easiest way for a Java Swing client to consumer a webservice?

  I have a Java Swing application client that I want to use to consume certain webservices, but I want to make it as painless as possible to code (because really all I want is the info). I do understand that whatever solution is used will need to stub the POJO's too. If you'd like to give a demo, that would be great, or if you can point to a tutorial that would also be really appreciated. I did look at Axis, including the more recent Axis2, but it's a bit more complex than I was hoping (aka. I have to learn something).
