    hey, i have a laptop with 16'' wide screen, but the screen is broken and i want to buy only the screen and replace it.. my laptop is: HP Pavilion dv6-1050us what i know about the screen is that it's model number 512357-001 "16inch widescreen BrightView BV display panel IMR, with web camera and microphone".     Is there any way to coax Gmail into pushing new-mail notifications into my Linux machine, without using a full-on graphical mail client like Thunderbird? edit: Thanks for all the responses, but (unless I'm mistaken) these applications all poll, none of them receive notifications pushed from GMail. Also, I'd prefer a console-based program, as this will be running on a headless server.

  • Give the www user chmod permissions

    Ive got a website (run on Ubuntu Server) that needs to modify and delete files, every now and again it comes across a file that it needs to run "chmod" on in order to perform it's operations. However it seems as tho the 'www' user does not have permission to run 'chmod' on any files. So I'm looking for the command to allow the 'www' user to do its thing on files inside the /var/www folder and also the /var/logs folder for example. Thanks.

    hi, i will get an ibm x3500 in the next days and wondered which linux i should use. i tend to use ubuntu 10.04 server, haven't heard anything bad about it and i'm a big debian fan. there will be a raid 5 powered by the ibm hardware raid controller (don't know which one). is it possible to monitor and manage it wit hthe ubuntu 10.04 server distro? or should i go another way and choose something like redhat (haven't used it though...)? thanks in advance regards

    Let's say we have the following scenario: We have two identical *nix servers using a shared filesystem. We connect through SFTP (not FTPS) to one of them to upload a file to the shared filesystem, the server goes offline and we get redirected to the second system which is still available. My question is, would there be any connection persistence or the user will have to relogin? I guess a relogin would be needed because the ssh sessions are not shared between the two systems...   • How to record a "macro" that saves web pages as PDF in OSX

    I frequently save pages as PDF from Chrome on OSX. The page is apple-P then click the PDF button and the "Save as PDF.." menu item. I always use the pre-filled filename and save in the default directory. Is it possible to save this as an automator script? If that is possible I woulld sure like to add this as a button on Chrome somewhere so I can just "save this for reading later" Thanks for any help.

  • what does "crap" mean in samba logs

    Hi All, I have been googling and googling and can't find a conclusive answer. In log files for samba, I see things like the following: "[11560]: pam auth crap domain:" & "NTLM CRAP authentication for user" I'm hoping this stands for something like "Challenge Response Auth Protocol" or something, but when I show the logs to people that aren't technical, I usually get questions or looks.     I have a Samba share on my NAS drive mounter as follows: mount -t smbfs -o username=backup,password=backups_password //sharebox/SVNBackup /mnt/SVNBackup I am then trying to run: sudo svnadmin dump /usr/local/svn/repos/testrepo > /mnt/SVNBackup/test1.svn but I get: bash: /mnt/SVNBackup/test1.svn: Permission Denied The backup location is setup to accept access only from the user "backup" (who doesn't exist on the local system) How do I go about solving this problem?
