  • External USB disk drive cannot be remounted in Windows XP

    I have Maxtor Basics Desktop 1TB external USB drive connected to Windows XP. The dirve's firmware puts it to sleep after 10-20 min of inactivity and then the drive cannot be mounted unless I reset it via power connector. While in sleep mode I can see the device in the Device Manager under both Disk drives and USB sections. Is there a way to get the drive out of sleep mode without hard reset? Thanks

  • Re. copying movie from USB card reader back to my camera

    I have a Canon Digital Ixus 860IS. I originally copied a short movie from my camera onto the computer via a USB card reader and then copied it back onto the camera via the same USB card reader along with some photos. The photos have copied back fine but the movie, although it's showing to have copied, can't be seen. Any reason for this? Thanks

    Hi, I use Squid and the users must authenticate. The users are authenticating in cleartext. I found tutorials about stunnel (http://www.jeffyestrumskas.com/?page_id=3), but the clients also need this software. Is there no possibility that for user authentication SSL (or some other encryption technology) can be used?. Thanks.

  • How do I fix a gid on files moved to a new server

    Hi, I've copied a folder of data from one linux server to another via a tarball. The group ids (GIDs) don't match up on the two servers, so I now have files that look like -rw-rw-r-- 1 tim 1013 88 2008-11-14 10:18 config There is a mixture of group ownerships in the folder, and I want to keep them owned by different groups on the same server, so I can't just use chgrp -R. How do I change all files/folders with GID 1013 to another group, without affecting other files/folders? Thanks

  • Dell SP2309w not getting full resolution on Inspiron E1505

    HI Folks, i have an Inspiron E1505 with Windows 7 and Intel GMA 945 Chipset. I connected a Dell SP2309W 23" monitor via VGA to the laptop but it is not achieving it's original resolution but is stuck at 1024 x 768. Also it is detected as a Generic Non PNP Display Device. I upgraded my display driver to latest version and it fully supports Windows 7. What more can i do? Any help. Thanks a Lot in advance

    I've just installed IE9 on my workstations and Server in our network. According to technet article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg699401.aspx There is a GPO setting for IE9 called "Configure Tracking Protection Lists" located at Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Privacy in the admistrative templates. I can find all the other IE9 settings in the GPO, but I cannot find this one. Does anyone know if there is an updated template, or if this setting was removed from the RC version of IE9?     If the server is restarted, or even if fail2ban is stopped/start it sends a notification. [asterisk-iptables] enabled = true filter = asterisk action = iptables-allports[name=ASTERISK, protocol=all] sendmail-whois[name=ASTERISK, [email protected], [email protected]] logpath = /var/log/asterisk/messages maxretry = 5 bantime = 259200 Removing the sendmail-whois stops it, but it also stops the ban notifications, how can I get it to stop notifying me when the process starts/stops?     We are running two physical servers both Windows 2003, not virtualized. What is the best free (if any) windows software to take a full image backup of the entire drives? If possible, while the image is taking place, it should not bring the hosts to their knees with excess CPU or I/O usage. The servers have RAID mirroring, but after hearing a few horror stories about hacked systems, we need to have weekly full image backups, so we can simply revert to a pre-hacked image. Thanks.

    I'm not trying to search for a bookmark - I'm trying to search for a term that may appear on one of my bookmarked sites. For instance, if I wanted to search on the term "Obama" and restrict my query to the New York Times web site, I know I could type this into the main URL/Search bar in Chrome: obama site:nytimes.com I'm wondering if there's a way to change that so that it's effectively: obama site:any one of the sites in my Chrome bookmark folder Thanks in advance for your help!

  • emule cannot create Incoming Files directory

    Hi, I have installed emule on Windows 7. When I start emule, I will receive a message "failed to create Incoming Files directory 'C:\Program Files\eMule\Incoming' - Access is denied", similar message for "C:\Program Files\eMule\Temp" and "Failed to initialize cryptokeys - secure ident disabled". It looks like Windows 7 does not allow emule to make such operation. How can I give emule the right to do what it needs? Thanks!

  • Pencil brush in Photoshop

    I have a Wacom Intuos 3 pen tablet. I bought it so I can naturally draw directly into the computer. Working in Photoshop, though, I cannot seem to find the brush settings that mostly resemble drawing with a regular pencil (opacity, edge etc...). Can anybody direct me towards a resource or downloadable brush that will have settings and shape similar to that of a regular, moderately soft pencil? Thanks!

    Hi, as titles says, how is sector id on HDD,CD-ROM and so distinguishable from data? I mean, when I want lets say sector #52, first, head goes to track where this sector should be, than it must wait some time to spin the desired sector above the reading head. But it must somehow recognize that its sector number, and not only data that say 52. So, how is this done? Thanks.
