• Outlook 2003 attachment section disappearing

  When I open a received mail my attachments "disappear". If I restart the application my attachments are there once again. After opening 4 - 6 email the problem is back there and I have to open / close the app again. I use windows 7 32bit professional and sp3 outlook 2003. In the 1st pic you can see the problem... In the 2nd one I've just quit outlook and opened it again (same email). Any hints?

• Outlook can not recognize PDF v1.7 attachments - those become corrupted after receiving on linux client

  MS Outlook cannot recognize PDF format 1.7 when sending it as an attachment. Therefore it's sent as: Content-Type: application/pdf; Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable When receiving such an e-mail under Linux (Thunderbird), the PDF content is being parsed as a plain text and converted. This results in a corrupted file loosing all the bytes 0x0a (LF) which are being removed by the EOL conversion. It's definitely a problem of Outlook which is IMO hard to fix and deploy. Is there a way to fix that on Thunderbird's site?

• How to back up OWA exchange emails without Outlook

  My university uses Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) e-mail. Soon they will close my e-mail account as my course has ended, but I really do not want to lose the archive of emails and attachments. I've read a backup to something called a .pst can be made if one has access to Microsoft Outlook but I do not. Is there any other way I could back these up? (preferably on Ubuntu 12.04 but I also have access to Win 7 if need be). One idea I played with is using davmail to allow access via Thunderbird and performing some kind of backup with that. However, I cannot seem to get past Authentication failed: invalid user or password, retry with domain\user.

• Microsoft Outlook: Export list of currently opened PST files

  At my current workplace we are upgrading various users from XP to Windows 7. Frequently the users have anywhere from 10 to 30 or so .pst files opened within their installation of Microsoft Outlook 2007. These users are particularly helpless without these files. I know how to view the list of currently opened PST files, and would like to know if there is an easy way to capture that information other than taking screenshots of the Options - Data Files window. Does migwiz.exe transfer this information? Is that the only way? Would there happen to be a tool that will let you capture and restore that information? I don't want to export or move the actual .pst's themselves (yes, some of them are on network locations, very terrible, I know), just reopen ones in a new installation of Outlook that used to be opened in a previous installation.

• Outlook 2010 : "An error occurred when setting schedule permissions"

  Computer: Windows 7 x64 Enterprise. Office 2010 with Outlook 2010. Exchange account and a couple of IMAP accounts connected to the Outlook profile. Error: When attempting to share the calendar with anyone (selected from the address book) by click on "Calendar Permissions" seen here You can add or remove people without issue, except that no matter what, even if nothing is done, just opening the sharing window and closing it, you get an error message that says "An error occurred when setting schedule permissions" Verified that the issue doesnt actually effect the sharing, or the general setting of permissions. The error however is disconcerting to my user, and I would like to alleviate the problem if possible. Thanks!

• Import EML emails into Outlook 2010 64-bit

  Evening everyone. I'm helping setup a small office network, where a number of old PC's are being replaced with new ones with a 64-bit copy of Outlook 2010. The old emails were stored in Windows Live Email, and were exported as .eml files (since we were replacing the machines). All the support I can find indicates that .eml files could simply be dragged-and-dropped into a folder in Outlook 2010, and it will import them correctly. However, it seems this is not the case in the 64-bit versioin, where dropping in .eml files results in a new message being created with these files as attachments. We can re-download the most of the emails off the server if need be, but there were user folders which were not on the server which we were hoping to import. Any advice would be fantastic at this point!

• Outlook 2010 stopped marking messages as read after reading them

  Yesterday I noticed that Outlook 2010 had stopped marking messages as read unless I right click and select Mark as Read. I have checked the Reading Panel settings (it's set to 0 seconds), but I don't use the reading panel to read my mail. When I open a message by doubleclicking it, then close it again, the message is still marked as Read. Outlook 2010 is connecting to Exchange Server 2003. This was working fine until yesterday. As far as I know there have been no config changes at either the client or server end.

• Is there a way to determine the current Outlook activity level?

  I am working on an Outlook 2007 Add-in in C# (VS2008) and we want to send some background email items only when Outlook is not busy doing something else. Is there a .net way to see if Outlook is busy doing other things (perhaps due to other add-ins or the like taking up CPU cycles)? Alternately, is there a way to send emails such that they never appear in the Outbox? We need a method that would not require any additional software be installed. Thanks for any input.

  I work at a helpdesk and today I received a call from a user who lost a folder in Outlook. When I connected to the user's PC, I discovered that the user has several hundreds of folders. She had the same name folder in several different locations. When we used Advanced Find we found the messages. It said that messages are located in folder X. The only problem was, we could not locate the folder X in the list. Does anyone know of any way to quickly and easily browse all the folders or look up a folder in Outlook 2010?

• Get the folder where the last mailitem was moved in Outlook?

  I have a vbscript macro that I'm using in Outlook. It moves a mailitem to some folder, say X. After I run the macro and I try to manually move a mailitem from Outlook with Control-v, it defaults to folder X. I would like Control-v to default to the folder that it would have used before I ran the macro. Is there some way in VBScript to find out what folder the last mailitem was move to, and to return that to be the default folder after I run my script? Or is there a way to move a mailitem in my script without the destination folder being remembered by Outlook Control-v after I run the script? Thanks for any hints.

• How to Export a Contact to and Import a Contact from a vCard (.vcf) File in Outlook 2013

  vCard is the abbreviation for Virtual Business Card and is the standard format (.vcf files) for electronic business cards. vCards allow you to create and share contact information over the internet, such as in email messages and instant messaging. You can also use vCards to move contact information from one email or personal information management program to another, as long as both programs support the .vcf file format. vCards can contain name and address information, as well as phone numbers, email addresses, URLs, images, and audio clips. We will show you how to export a contact to and import a contact from a vCard, or .vcf file, in Outlook. First access the People section by clicking People at the bottom of the Outlook window. To view your contact in business card format, click Business Card in the Current View section of the Home tab. Select a contact by clicking on the name bar at the top of the business card. To export the selected contact as a vCard, click the File tab. On the Account Information screen, click Save As in the list of options on the left. The Save As dialog box displays. By default, the name of the contact is used to name the .vcf file in the File name edit box. Change the name, if desired, select a location for the file, and click Save. The contact is saved as a .vcf file. To import a vCard, or .vcf file, into Outlook, simply double-click on the .vcf file. By default, .vcf files are automatically associated with Outlook, so the file is opened in Outlook as a Contact. Make any changes or additions to the contact in the contact editing window. To save the contact, click Save & Close in the Actions section of the Contact tab. NOTE: Notice that because this contact is new, the full contact editing window displays rather than the Contact Card that displays when double-clicking on a contact. You can open the full contact editing window instead of the Contact Card when editing a contact or searching for a contact. The contact is added to the Contacts folder. You can add your contact information to a signature in business card format, and it will display as shown above in emails.   Outlook has the ability to show week numbers down the side of the calendar in monthly view, and on the mini-calendar: In options, you can set the first week of the year, but only to the following three options: This is all very nice, but at work our "year" starts on a different date to match up with accounting periods - it's currently week 37 rather than 45! I'd like Outlook to be able to tell me which week it is at work, so is there any way I can set a custom date to be the first week of the year?

• Should my dropdown of recently used items show items I no longer have access to

  We are implementing a client for our document management system. Part of this is the checkin screen where one of the fields a user chooses is the folder where the document should be checked into. In our original system, this was represented with a combobox where a user could hand type a folder path or select a path from a list of 5 folders they'd recently used for checking. It is possible that between the time they used the folder and the time they are doing the new checkin the user will no longer have access to the folder. At present, we still show the folder as an option and then, if the user chooses that folder, display an error message when the user submits the check in. We are thinking of removing these recently used folders the user doesn't have access to (we'll make a check when the form is instantiated) because why show an option if we know it will cause a failure (and another dialog message the user has to OK). However, an opposite opinion is that if we remove those folders, the users will think the system has "forgotten" their recent choices and will lose trust in what they are using. I'd like to get some opinions on the better user experience for this problem.

• Name user object and user table correctly

  It's maybe simple but I think about this every time I build a new application. How do you name the class for the current user of the application and for the orm class of the user table? Usually I have something like CurrentUser: Logged-in user, stored in session, info for last activity etc User: ORM Class (C# EF CodeFirst, but it doesn't matter) And yes, they could have the same name in different namespaces, but I don't really like that.

  I expect this is an easy question. For some reason, I don't have a solution yet. I have an object set from django reversion: version_list. Each object in the set has a user id attached to it. How do I grab the user names that correspond to the user ID's? To try to be clearer, if each object in version_list has a name, date, and user id, how can I join the version_list set with the user table to figure out what user id goes with which name? This is done in the view, or the template?

• How to prepopulate an Outlook MailItem and avoiding a com Exception from the object model guard

  Hi, I work for a company that develops a CRM tool and offers integration with MS Office(2003 & 2007) from windows XP to 7. (I'm working using Win7) My task is to call an Outlook instance (using C#) from this CRM tool when the user wants to send an email and prepopulate with data of the CRM tool (email, recipient, etc..) All of this already works just fine. The problem I'm having is that Outlook's "object model guard" is throwing com Exception (Operation aborted (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004004 (E_ABORT))) the moment I try to read a protected value from the mailItem (such as mail.bodyHTML). Example Snippet: using MSOutlook = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook; //untrusted Instance _outlook = new MSOutlook.Application(); MSOutlook.MailItem mail = (MSOutlook.MailItem)_outlook.CreateItem(MSOutlook.OlItemType.olMailItem); //this where the Exception occurs string outlookStdHTMLBody = mail.HTMLBody; I've done quite a bit of reading and know that my Outlook Instance (derived by using new Application) is considered untrusted and therefore the "omg" kicks in. I do have a workaround for development: I'm running VS2010 as Administrator and if I run Outlook as Administrator as well - all is good. I suppose this is due to them having the same integrity levels(high) and the UAC(?) is not complaining. But that just ain't the way to go for deployment. Now the question is: Is there a way to obtain a trusted instance of Outlook so that I can avoid this exception? I've already read that when developing an Office Add-In using VSTO one can obtain a trusted Instance from the OnComplete event and/or using "ThisAddin" But I "merely" want to start an outlook instance and preopulate it, and do not want to develop an Add-In since this is not the requirement. And to make it clear - I have no problem with pop ups informing the user that outlook is being accessed - I just want to get rid of the exception! So how can I get around this problem using code?   Back in Gnome 2 there was a very useful user account editing gui tool whereby I could easily add or edit a user to a group. For example, I could give a standard user access to something that they hadn't installed or don't have default access too, such as Me-TV. How do I do this in Gnome 3 / Unity? I am not allowed to create the tag "edit user accounts" or similar and there isn't anything similar existing, strangely. I'm guessing there is a totally different way to edit user accounts or no one bothers - perhaps no one shares PCs anymore.

• Outlook 2007 "Mark as Not Junk" Dialog Confusion

  Outlook 2007's "Not Junk" button opens the "Mark as Not Junk" dialog. The dialog works correctly if I keep the "Always trust e-mail from <email address>" option checked. That is, the message is removed from the Junk folder and returns to the Inbox. However, if I uncheck the "Always trust" box, pressing OK dismisses the dialog, but nothing else happens. Why not? According to Outlook help, "When you mark a message as not junk, you are given the option of adding the sender or the mailing list name to your Safe Senders List or Safe Recipients List." That sure makes it sound like this is just an option, and not necessary for the core functionality of the action. I really don't want to trust a (possibly forged) From: address, but I do want my mail back in the Inbox. I could manually drag it, but I'm assuming that marking a message as not junk also trains some kind of bayesian filter. Am I mistaken? Thanks.
