  • Retrieve file size from web server

    - by user326943
Looking for a way to retrieve a file size from a web server using cocoa/foundation. I know one can use NSURLconnection which will return NSURLResponse that contains the file size. Is there any other way to get the size. I'm looking for a synchronous way of doing it so when i do [myClass getsize] the size is returned. Thanks

  • Creating NSApp inside another nsviewcontroller

    - by DesperateLearner
I have opened my mac app in a new nsviewcontroller - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(NSNotification *)aNotification { self.masterViewController = [[MasterViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"MasterViewController" bundle:nil]; [self.window.contentView addSubview:self.masterViewController.view]; self.masterViewController.view.frame = ((NSView*)self.window.contentView).bounds; } Masterviewcontroller has a customized view in the .xib file. When I need to create an NSApp sheet in this NSViewController for another, I'm calling [NSApp beginSheet:_newDataWindow modalForWindow:window modalDelegate:self didEndSelector:nil contextInfo:nil]; I have to use 'window' for beginSheetModalForWindow. But how do I call it from another NSViewController. I end up with compilation error.

  • How can I change this method to get rid of the warning without anything changing?

    - by user3591323
So this question:Warning-used as the name of the previous parameter rather than as part of the selector answers part of my problem, but I really don't want anything to change inside this method and I'm a bit confused on how this works. Here's the whole method: -(void) SetRightWrong:(sqzWord *)word: (int) rightWrong { if (self.mastered==nil) { self.mastered = [[NSMutableArray alloc]initWithCapacity:10]; } //if right change number right if (rightWrong == 1) { word.numberCorrect++; //if 3 right move to masterd list [self.onDeck removeObject:word]; if(word.numberCorrect >= 3 ) { [self.mastered addObject:word]; } else { //if not 3 right move to end of ondeck [self.onDeck addObject:word]; } } else if(rightWrong == 0) { //if wrong remove one from number right unless 0 NSUInteger i; i=[self.onDeck indexOfObject:word]; word = [self.onDeck objectAtIndex:i]; if (word.numberCorrect >0) { word.numberCorrect--; } } } The warning I am getting is: 'word' used as the name of the previous parameter than as part of the selector.

  • Isses using function with variadic arguments

    - by Sausages
I'm trying to write a logging function and have tried several different attempts at dealing with the variadic arguments, but am having problems with all of them. Here's the latest: - (void) log:(NSString *)format, ... { if (self.loggingEnabled) { va_list vl; va_start(vl, format); NSString* str = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:format arguments:vl]; va_end(vl); NSLog(format); } } If I call this like this: [self log:@"I like: %@", @"sausages"]; Then I get an EXC_BAD_ACCESS at the NSLog line (there's also a compiler warning that the format string is not a string literal). However if in XCode's console I do "po str" it displays "I like: sausages" so str seems ok.

  • when to use "willChangeValueForKey" and "didChangeValueForKey"?

    - by Frost Li
I saw these lines in a demo project, but I couldn't understand why it did that. [self willChangeValueForKey:@"names"]; [self didChangeValueForKey:@"names"]; It called didChangeValueForKey immediately after willChangeeValueForKey. Does it make any sense? Furthermore, when should be the right time to call this two methods? Thanks a lot!! :)

  • Language restrictions on iPhone lifted?

    - by John Smith
Apparently Apple has changed some term in the agreement again. From http://www.appleoutsider.com/2010/06/10/hello-lua/ section 3.3.2 is now Unless otherwise approved by Apple in writing, no interpreted code may be downloaded or used in an Application except for code that is interpreted and run by Apple’s Documented APIs and built-in interpreter(s). Notwithstanding the foregoing, with Apple’s prior written consent, an Application may use embedded interpreted code in a limited way if such use is solely for providing minor features or functionality that are consistent with the intended and advertised purpose of the Application. instead of the original No interpreted code may be downloaded or used in an Application except for code that is interpreted and run by Apple’s Documented APIs and built-in interpreter(s). I am more interested in embedding Lua, but other people have other embeddings they want to make. I am wondering how you ask for permission, and what they mean by the terms "minor features" and "consistent" and how will Apple interpret this section? It seems to have enough loopholes to drive a real firetruck through.

  • Custom class deallocated as soon as the app starts.

    - by Tangrs
Heya, I've added a class object to the nib file. All connections are made. But for some reason, the object is deallocated as soon as it's created. Here's the code: control.h: #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> @interface control : NSObject { IBOutlet UILabel *PlayerScore; } -(IBAction) addPoint: sender; -(void) dealloc; @end control.m: #import "control.h" @implementation control -(IBAction)addPoint: sender { NSLog(@"Ohhai. Didn't crash."); //Doesn't even make it to this stage. int i = [PlayerScore.text intValue]; PlayerScore.text=[NSString stringWithFormat: @"%d",++i]; } -(void) dealloc { NSLog(@"ZOMGWTF?"); [super dealloc]; } @end Here is the console log: [Session started at 2010-06-09 19:47:57 +1000.] 2010-06-09 19:47:58.771 App[91100:207] ZOMGWTF? And after I click the button which messages addPoint, of course, it crashes. 2010-06-09 19:47:59.703 App[91100:207] * -[control] performSelector:withObject:withObject:]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x3843d80 Does anyone have any ideas?

  • Passing data from one viewcontroller to another

    - by user1392515
I subclassed two view controllers. The first one is supposed to pass data, a NSUrl object to the second one. .m of the first one: NSURL *temp = [NSURL URLWithString:@"http://example.com"]; UIViewController *presentationsFullScreen_ViewController = [self.storyboard instantiateViewControllerWithIdentifier:@"PresentationsFullScreen_ViewController"]; presentationsFullScreen_ViewController.urlToUse = temp; .h of the second one: #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface PresentationsFullScreen_ViewController : UIViewController { NSURL *urlToUse; } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSURL *urlToUse; It is obviously not working and not compiling, telling me essentially that I didn't subclass it and that the property urlToUse is not found on UIViewController. How do I subclass correctly? Thanks!

I'm developing a reader app for viewing and highlighting proprietary format documents. The documents are 2D. (Might add some cool page flip effects) The interface is similar to that of mobile safari. I have no prior experience with iOS development. Could you guys point me to the right direction? (Things I need to consider, tutorials, sample projects...) THX

  • What is the difference between these two ways of creating NSStrings?

    - by adame
NSString *myString = @"Hello"; NSString *myString = [NSString stringWithString:@"Hello"]; I understand that using method (1) creates a pointer to a string literal that is defined as static memory (and cannot be deallocated) and that using (2) creates an NSString object that will be autoreleased. Is using method (1) bad? What are the major differences? Is there any instances where you would want to use (1)? Is there a performance difference? P.S. I have searched extensively on Stack Overflow and while there are questions on the same topic, none of them have answers to the questions I have posted above.

In ClassB the code is aClassB = [[ClassB alloc]init]; [aClassB parseData]; I have ClassC. I need to use the method parseData of ClassB in ClassC. I think I can use the object created in ClassB of ClassA. How can I pass the method to ClassC ? Thank You.

  • XCode - Automatically add all files in a folder to a target

    - by Akshay
In XCode, is there a way to specify that all files in a folder are compiled by a target. Eg. the 'Test' target automatically compiles all files in the 'Tests' folder, whereas the 'App' target compiles everything in the 'Sources' folder. Today, the way I'm doing it, is to add a file to a target everytime I create it. This feels a bit error prone and redundant since the files are already organized in the correct folders. Thanks.
