  • How do I setup routing for 2 companies with different Internet connections on the same LAN?

    Here's the setup: 2 companies (A & B) share office space and a LAN. A 2nd ISP is brought in and company A wants it's own Internet connection (ISP A) and company B wants it's own Internet connection (ISP B). VLANs are deployed internally to separate the 2 company's networks (company A: VLAN 1, company B: VLAN 2, shared VOIP: VLAN 3). With separate VLANs it's simple enough to use separate DHCP servers (or separate scopes on the same server) to assign the default gateway to each company's gateway for their Internet connection. Static routes can be created on each gateway to point traffic destined for the other company's VLAN or the voice VLAN so that all nodes are reachable as expected. However, I think this is a form of asymmetrical routing, right? (The path from node A1 to node B1 is not the same as the path back from node B1 to node A1). Can I setup policy-based routing to correct this? In that case, can I assign the same default gateway to every device on all VLANs and create a routing policy on a L3 switch to look at the source address and forward traffic to the appropriate next hop? In that case, I want the routing logic to go like this: If the destination address is known, forward the traffic (traffic destined for a different VLAN). If the destination address is unknown, forward the traffic to ISP A's gateway if the source address is on VLAN A; or forward the traffic to ISP B's gateway if the source address is VLAN B. Am I thinking about this problem in the correct way? Is there another way to solve this problem that I am overlooking?

  • my server suddenly crashes every 2 days or so. Programmer has no idea, please help find the cause, here is the top

    Every couple of days my server suddenly crashes and I must request hardware reset at data center to get it back running. Today I came back to my shell and saw the server was dead and "top" was running on it, and see below for the "top" right before the crash. I opened /var/log/messages and scrolled to the reboot time and see nothing, no errors prior to the hard reboot. (I checked in /etc/syslog.conf and I see "*.info;mail.none;authpriv.none;cron.none /var/log/messages" , isn't this good enough to log all problems?) Usually when I look at the top, the swap is never used up like this! I also don't know why mysqld is at 323% cpu (server only runs drupal and its never slow or overloaded). Solver is my application. I don't know whats that 'sh' doing and 'dovecot' doing.   • How do I prevent a font from extending off the top of a textbox?

    I'm using a barcode font (IDAutomationMC39H) in an SSRS 2005 report I'm developing, and while it renders fine in the preview in BIDS, if I export the results to PDF, print the results, or do any of the above (including preview) in Report Manager, the barcode font is extending off the top of the textbox. The barcode itself is nearly 20px tall, even at only a 12pt size. I've tried changing the CanGrow value for the textbox, but it seems that even with that set off the barcode isn't pushing the bottom edge of the textbox downwards, it's simply extending over the top of the box. I've also tried resizing the textbox to allow it to contain the entire height of the font, but even with the VerticalAlign set to Bottom the barcode still sticks to the top of the textbox and overflows out the top. I then look at other pages such as Wetherspoons and Porsche and their tabs are aligned to the top of the page. Why is it like this?     I'm not sure of any of the terminology, so I'll have to explain things simply, to make sure you understand what I'm saying. I'm using Gnome 3, and when I bring the mouse to the bottom right of the screen, a bar pops up, with icons of some things that are running in the background (at the moment, mine has "Update Manager", "Removable Devices", "caffeine-cup"). Is there any way to move these items to the bar at the top of the screen, alongside the icons for volume, network connectivity and universal access (how do I get rid of that btw)? Thanks

  • Linux 'top' utility widly inaccurate (more so for multi-CPU/core hardware)?

    Hi all. After using 'top' for long time, albeit basically, I have grown to distrust it's '% CPU' column reports. I have a 8-core (quad core Intel i7 920 with hyperthreading) hardware, and see some wild numbers when running a process that should not use more than 5% overall. top happily reports 50%, and I suspect it is not so. My question is, is it a known fact that it's inaccurate when several CPUs/cores are present? I used 'mpstat' from the 'sysstat' package, and it's showings are much more conservative, certainly within my expectations. I did press '1' for 'top' to switch it to show all the core and us/sy/io stats, but the numbers are substantially higher than with 'mpstat'... I know that my expectations can be unfound as well, but my gut feeling tells me 'top' is wrong! :-) The reason I need to know is because the process I am monitoring only guarantees quality of service with CPU usage "less than 80%" (however vague that sounds), and I need to know how much headroom I have left. It's a streaming server.

    I need to define a div which must stay with the top at the normal position, which differs from the top of the surrounding element: position:relative top:0 and which grows in the height up to the size of the surrounding element: position:absolute bottom:0 I have no idea how to combine the both. Whenever I use a relative box I loose the absolute bottom and whenever I use an absolute box I loose the relative top. Can anybody help me how to do this in CSS?   • What collision detection approach for top down car game?

    I have a quite advanced top down car game and i use masks to detect collisions. I have the actual designed track (what the player see) with fancy graphics etc. and two other pictures i use as mask for my detection collisions. Each mask has only two colors, white and black and i check each frame if a pixel of the car collide with a black pixel of the masks. This approach works of course but it's not really flexible. Whenever i want to change the look of a track, i have to redraw the mask and it's a real pain. What is the general approach for this kind of game? How can i improve the flexibility of such a mask based approach?

  • Why is the top menu-bar not accessable when previewing open windows of an application?

    If I have more than one window of the same application running then clicking its icon in the launcher displays a preview of that application's open windows, When this preview is activated I can't click on any of the icons in the Ubuntu menu-bar/panel/top bar (although hovering over them does highlight the icons). It seems odd that you can highlight the icons but pressing them has no effect. Is this behaviour normal, a bug, or a slight design flaw? I only noticed because I wanted to shut down when previewing the open windows and couldn't click on the panel power icon.

  • Reason why a Brand new website is ranking for a top keyword? [on hold]

    Its been noticed, one of our (new)competitor website is ranking 5 for a top keyword with high competition. The website is barely 2 months old. When I checked not much SEO is done on the website other than basic title/desc tags. No backlinks. The website pushed down our website and took its place for the keyword. The only reason that came to my mind is the latest penguin update. Or is the ranking just temporary???, will it eventually be pushed back?? its been holding on for atleast one month and its irritating. Thanks in advance.

  • How can I get back my deskopt? the left and top panels

    I installed the Ubuntu 12.10 and the driver for ATI Radeon HD 4330 (AMD Catalyst™ 12.6 Proprietary Linux x86 Display Driver) and the latest updates. After the restart now I can see only the deskopt backgrund and nothing more. No left or top panels. The resolution changed to 1024X768 and the graphic changed to: VESA:M92. What happened? Is there something wrong with the driver? How can I solve this? I'am a beginner, please answer according to this. Thank you!
