  Hey guys, As a personal project, I'm looking to build a rudimentary DBMS. I've read the relevant sections in Elmasri & Navathe (5ed), but could use a more focused text. The rub is that I want to play with novel non-relational data models. While a lot of E&N was great- indexing implementation details in particular- the more advanced DBMS implementation was only targeted to a relational model. I could also use something a bit more practical and detail-oriented, with real-world recommendations. I'd like to defer staring at DBMS source for a while if I can. Any ideas?

• Shark tool on iphone crashes

  Hi, I am trying to use Shark to profile my app. However, it crashes after I hit "stop" and it analyzes and then goes to "load session". Only once when I decided not to select my app but chose to target "everything" did it actually display some trace. However, I could not reproduce this case. Does anyone have any idea what might be going wrong? Could it be something to do with the wrong version of Shark or my SDK or some other detail? I have the latest SDK and am running 3.1.3 on the phone. The various documentation I've found on google or via Apple's docs don't seem to be terribly helpful, so if anyone has found some that's useful, I'd love to see it. Thanks.

  Hello all, Is there a way to have the jquery treeview plugin automatically collapse when a user focuses on another element. More detail about what I am trying to do: I have a form where a user has to select an item from a large selection. To make this easier I have set up a small list of 5 commonly selected items each with associated radio select buttons. However if the item wanted is not in this common list the user has to use the treeview to search through different categories to find the item. Is there a way to collapse the treeview when the user clicks on one of the radio buttons from the common item list? Thanks for your help in advance, Andy

  I need to auto insert the next orders_id into an Orders table in a database. orders_id is not the primary Key, and it does not auto-increment I need to query the database, find the last (highest) id value, increment 1, and insert it in Orders table in database. Actually, I have a shipping action which will provide address of shipping of orders. So as soon as the user fills address form and move to payments page, I want to simultaneously fill my Orders table by max(orders_id)+1. I have built relations between Address table and Orders table but my orders Table is not getting populated. Please detail me correct codes to implement it in my controller in Yii

  Hi, I am wondering what performance indicators people encounter, and think are realistic, for programmers in the workplace? I've seen numerous articles (I can't recall a really good one that I read right now) that detail how programmers will optimise for the metric they are being measured by (whether that be lines of code etc.). However, is there any metric that can be used as a good performance indicator of a programmer in the workplace, and conversely be used as a milestone by a programmer when negotiating with management? • added TextToSpeech to my activity and now my onDestroy is not called any more, bug?

  I added TextToSpeech to my app, following the guidelines in the following post: http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2009/09/introduction-to-text-to-speech-in.html and now my onDestroy is no longer called when the back button is pressed. I filed a bug report regarding this: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=7674 Figured i should also ask here if someone else has seen this, and found a solution? It seems that it is the intent that causes the problem, i.e. the following: Intent checkIntent = new Intent(); checkIntent.setAction(TextToSpeech.Engine.ACTION_CHECK_TTS_DATA); startActivityForResult(checkIntent, MY_DATA_CHECK_CODE); If I skip this intent, and just go ahead and create a tts-instance, it works fine. Any clues to what is wrong with this intent?

  If a thread is running a function func1 that calls another function func2 inside it... Then I called thread.Abort() Will this stop func1 only OR func1 and func2 and all the functions func1 has called?? Thanks Edit: Here are more detail: func1 is called in a new thread, it continuously calls func2 on regular basis... func2 begin doing some work only if some array is not null.. it finishes it and return When supervisor wants to save data, it aborts Thread of func1- and then makes array null, saves data, then fill in the array with new one.. and starts Thread with func1 again.. Sometimes exception is raised because array is null in func2.. so func1 abort did not affect func2

  Hi, I have a UITableView with a list of items such as item1, item2, item3, item4 and so on. If I select on item1, it will go to the detail view of item1 (which is controlled by DetailsViewController). What I am trying to do is to add a button called "Next" on DetailsView. When clicked, the DetailsView will refresh and show item2. When clicked again, it will show item3 and so on. I have been searching high and low for that to implement. But to no avail.   When I see the call System.Windows.Browser.HtmlPage.Window.Eval (which is evil) in ReportErrorToDOM (in App.xaml.cs) this shows me that it has no relationship to onSilverlightError. So what kind of JavaScript-based scenario calls onSilverlightError? When will onSilverlightError definitely be needed? What are Silverlight error-handling conventions in general? This is a very important comment by Erik Monk but needs more detail: There are 2 kinds of terminal errors in Silverlight. 1) Managed errors (hit the managed Application_UnhandledException method). Note that some errors may not even get to this point. If the managed infrastructure can't be loaded for some reason (out of memory error maybe...), you won't get this kind of error. Still, if you can get it, you can use a web service (or the CLOG project) to communicate it back to the server. 2) Javascript errors.

• Toubleshooting mapkit performance

  I'm plotting over 500 points on a map using mapkit. Zooming is a little jittery compared to the native google map app. I've discovered what is causing the slowness. I'm adding custom annotations so that I can later add different pin colors and buttons for detail views: - (MKAnnotationView *) mapView:(MKMapView *)mapView viewForAnnotation:(AddressNote *) annotation { MKPinAnnotationView *annView=[[MKPinAnnotationView alloc] initWithAnnotation:annotation reuseIdentifier:@"currentlocation"]; annView.pinColor = MKPinAnnotationColorGreen; annView.animatesDrop=TRUE; annView.canShowCallout = YES; annView.calloutOffset = CGPointMake(-5, 5); return annView; } If I comment out the above code, everything works fine. Very smooth with zooming in/out. Should I be adding annotations differently to boost performance?

• Discussion: Working TDD in a Scrum context

  Hi all, When I work TDD I tend to start out with the big picture and create the tests that should succeed in order for the overall assignment to be completed - it then kicks off a number of supporting classes/methods/tests as I 'dig in'. If my assignment has been planned out in detail, I would then open one task, and in order to solve it, open another and then another. Only when the overall tests are succeeding can I close the original task, which means that at any given time, I would have a number of open tasks. I find that this approach conflict somewhat with the scrum approach where, ideally, I should be able to take and close a task within a day's work - and never have more than one task open at a time. I'm looking for input about how you manage this in your project - references to articles are also very welcome, I'm sure this has been debated thoroughly somewhere...   I am trying to build a template geographic database for PostGIS (1.5) on Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6) for my GeoDjango application. I am following: http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/contrib/gis/install/#creating-a-spatial-database-template-for-postgis I've managed to come up to the point where the provided postgis.sql should be run (i.e. psql -d template_postgis -f $POSTGIS_SQL_PATH/postgis.sql) At that point I am getting an error at the first SQL statement that is tried to be run.   I have a php query the returns the following JSON format from a table. [{"memberid":"18", "useridFK":"30", "loginName":"Johnson", "name":"Frank", "age":"23", "place":"School", }, It needs the following format: [{"memberid":"18" { "useridFK":"30", "loginName":"Johnson", "name":"Frank", "age":"23", "place":"School",} }, I can figure out where/how to convert this, Where would I create the formatting following: (1) In the php return? (2) the JSON instructions for deserialization? or (3) Some kinb of Obj-C coding instruction? My end use is a simple Drill Down table using the NSObject, so when I select "memberid" row, I'll get the child/detail list on the next UITableview. My Data.plist will look like the following: Root: Dictionary V Rows: Array V Item 0: Dictionary Title: String 18 V Children Array V Item 0 Dictionary Title String 30 etc. Thanks in advance, this site rocks.

• calender with multiple data sources at once??

  Im looking for a (free) solution to a bookingcalender. Among many candidates Ive found the Jquery Full Calender which has many cool features. One of the reason that I like this one is because it has "drag and drop" and resize, which I also need. But I also need to have the dayview where I the columms monday, tuesday, wedensday, thursday friday .... gets replaced with fx. Room1, Room2, Room3, Room4, Room5, Room6, Room7. • Can Log4net have multiple appenders write to the same file?

  I'm using a RollingFileAppender to log some info to a file with a conversionPattern (in the web.config) that looks like this for the header of each log section: <conversionPattern value="%date - %property{userId} - %property{method}%newline--------------------------------%newline%message%newline%newline"/> I'd like to log details under this header as bullet points. I'm currently trying to use another RollingFileAppender that logs to the same file with a simple conversionPattern of just a dash, like this: <conversionPattern value="- %message%newline"/> But these messages aren't making it into the log file. I'm using Log.Info() for the header and Log.Debug() for the bullet points and filtering each appender on their respective log levels. Is what I'm trying to do possible? Or is there a better way to get header and detail information into a log file from log4net?

  I use Subversion mainly to synchronize work between two computers I use on a daily basis (and as a backup, since I have a checked-out copy of the repository on each computer). I keep the main repository on a USB flashdrive. I recently came across the following error when trying to commit a current working copy (and both working copies, one on each computer, are identical now): ! • Eclipse and Cassandra

  I've searched various websites for instructions on how to link 'Cassandra' and 'Eclipse' and followed directions to the last detail in several sites. For some reason, while using Git Bash, I cant get through the 'ant build', via instruction in said mentioned locations across the web. In some location's its easy, just make sure you have; 1. Apache Cassandra source 2. Apache Ant 3. Git So, yeah I've downloaded all the above, tried the same directory, different directories, etc., although still unable to get past the middle step of 'ant build'.
