  • Simple prime number program - Weird issue with threads C#

    - by Para
    Hi! This is my code: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.Threading; namespace FirePrime { class Program { static bool[] ThreadsFinished; static bool[] nums; static bool AllThreadsFinished() { bool allThreadsFinished = false; foreach (var threadFinished in ThreadsFinished) { allThreadsFinished &= threadFinished; } return allThreadsFinished; } static bool isPrime(int n) { if (n < 2) { return false; } if (n == 2) { return true; } if (n % 2 == 0) { return false; } int d = 3; while (d * d <= n) { if (n % d == 0) { return false; } d += 2; } return true; } static void MarkPrimes(int startNumber,int stopNumber,int ThreadNr) { for (int j = startNumber; j < stopNumber; j++) nums[j] = isPrime(j); lock (typeof(Program)) { ThreadsFinished[ThreadNr] = true; } } static void Main(string[] args) { int nrNums = 100; int nrThreads = 10; //var threadStartNums = new List<int>(); ThreadsFinished = new bool[nrThreads]; nums = new bool[nrNums]; //var nums = new List<bool>(); nums[0] = false; nums[1] = false; for(int i=2;i<nrNums;i++) nums[i] = true; int interval = (int)(nrNums / nrThreads); //threadStartNums.Add(2); //int aux = firstStartNum; //int i = 2; //while (aux < interval) //{ // aux = interval*i; // i=i+1; // threadStartNums.Add(aux); //} int startNum = 0; for (int i = 0; i < nrThreads; i++) { var _thread = new System.Threading.Thread(() => MarkPrimes(startNum, Math.Min(startNum + interval, nrNums), i)); startNum = startNum + interval; //set the thread to run in the background _thread.IsBackground = true; //start our thread _thread.Start(); } while (!AllThreadsFinished()) { Thread.Sleep(1); } for (int i = 0; i < nrNums; i++) if(nums[i]) Console.WriteLine(i); } } } This should be a pretty simple program that is supposed to find and output the first nrNums prime numbers using nrThreads threads working in parallel. So, I just split nrNums into nrThreads equal chunks (well, the last one won't be equal; if nrThreads doesn't divide by nrNums, it will also contain the remainder, of course). I start nrThreads threads. They all test each number in their respective chunk and see if it is prime or not; they mark everything out in a bool array that keeps a tab on all the primes. The threads all turn a specific element in another boolean array ThreadsFinished to true when they finish. Now the weird part begins: The threads never all end. If I debug, I find that ThreadNr is not what I assign to it in the loop but another value. I guess this is normal since the threads execute afterwards and the counter (the variable i) is already increased by then but I cannot understand how to make the code be right. Can anyone help? Thank you in advance. P.S.: I know the algorithm is not very efficient; I am aiming at a solution using the sieve of Eratosthenes also with x given threads. But for now I can't even get this one to work and I haven't found any examples of any implementations of that algorithm anywhere in a language that I can understand.

  • IPhone SDK - Vibration triggered by Thread

    - by Steblo
    Hi, I'm currently working on an IPhone App that should make the phone vibrate if a special event occurs. The checks to trigger the alert is done in a thread. Unfortunately the phone won't vibrate if I call AudioServicesPlaySystemSound(kSystemSoundID_Vibrate); from inside the thread. (It works fine if I call this in my "viewDidAppear" method). I even tried to do a callback from inside the thead like this: inside Thread: [self performSelectorOnMainThread:@selector(doAlarm) withObject:nil waitUntilDone:true]; -(void)doAlarm { AudioServicesPlaySystemSound(kSystemSoundID_Vibrate); } which has the same result: No vibration on the phone. How do I make the phone vibrate from inside a thread ?? Thanks in advance

  • Async stream writing in a thread

    - by blez
    I have a thread in which I write to 2 streams. The problem is that the thread is blocked until the first one finishes writing (until all data is transferred on the other side of the pipe), and I don't want that. Is there a way to make it asynchronous? chunkOutput is a Dictionary filled with data from multiple threads, so the faster checking for existing keys is, the faster the pipe will write. void ConsumerMethod(object totalChunks) { while(true) { if (chunkOutput.ContainsKey(curChunk)) { if (outputStream != null && chunkOutput[curChunk].Length > 0) { outputStream.Write(chunkOutput[curChunk]); // <-- here it stops } ChunkDownloader.AppendData("outfile.dat", chunkOutput[curChunk], chunkOutput[curChunk].Length); curChunk++; if (curChunk >= (int) totalChunks) return; } Thread.Sleep(10); } }

  • Is there a way to serialize automatically enums as int?

    - by FireAphis
    Hello, Is there a way to serialize enums automatically as int? Every time I define a new enum and write std::stringstream stream; stream << myenum1; stream >> myenum2; the compiler complains that the operators << and are not defined. Do you know a way to tell the compiler to treat enums as plain int's? What makes the problem harder is that, actually, the serialization is inside a template. Something like this: template <typename T> void serialize(const T& value) { std::stringstream stream; stream << value; } So I cannot add any casts :( Maybe I can specialize it somehow? Thank you.

  • Fragment savedInstanceState is always null (Android support lib)

    - by Evgeny Egorov
    I wrote a simple test project, but I cant understand why I always receive savedInstanceState = null in lifecycle methods onCreate, onCreateView and onActivityCreated. I change the screen orientation, see the log, but state not saved. Tell me please where is my mistake. Thanks. The code of fragment class is: public class TestFragment extends Fragment { private String state = "1"; @Override public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState) { if (savedInstanceState != null) { //never works state = savedInstanceState.getString("state"); } //always prints 1 Toast.makeText(getActivity(), state, Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); return inflater.inflate(R.layout.fragment_layout, container, false); } @Override public void onSaveInstanceState(Bundle outState) { super.onSaveInstanceState(outState); outState.putString("state", "2"); Log.e("", "saved 2"); } }

  • tool to generate C++ wrapper over java class

    - by Vardhan Varma
    From what I understand, SWIG is to wrap C++/C to make it appear in Java, and javah is to implement certain java functions in C++ ( aka native functions ). Is there a tool which can create a C++ wrapper over a java class, so that the caller. of this c++ wrapper doesn't have to worry about java, for example Input Java is class hw { public void hi() { System.out.println("Hello World"); } } Tools outputs hw.hh ( and some. c++ files ), which can be used as: hw *h = new hw(/*JEnv */ env); h-hi(); Is there a tool available which can do this ?

  • Set Hibernate session's flush mode in Spring

    - by glaz666
    I am writing integration tests and in one test method I'd like to write some data to DB and then read it. @RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class) @ContextConfiguration(locations = {"classpath:applicationContext.xml"}) @TransactionConfiguration() @Transactional public class SimpleIntegrationTest { @Resource private DummyDAO dummyDAO; /** * Tries to store {@link com.example.server.entity.DummyEntity}. */ @Test public void testPersistTestEntity() { int countBefore = dummyDAO.findAll().size(); DummyEntity dummyEntity = new DummyEntity(); dummyDAO.makePersistent(dummyEntity); //HERE SHOULD COME SESSION.FLUSH() int countAfter = dummyDAO.findAll().size(); assertEquals(countBefore + 1, countAfter); } } As you can see between storing and reading data, the session should be flushed because the default FushMode is AUTO thus no data can be actually stored in DB. Question: Can I some how set FlushMode to ALWAYS in session factory or somewhere else to avoid repeating session.flush() call? All DB calls in DAO goes with HibernateTemplate instance. Thanks in advance.

  • AS3IsoLib New IsoSprite

    - by KoopaTroopa
    I'm following a guide (http://www.jsparrowhawk.com/blog/?p=75) on how to use the As3IsoLib library. It seems his examples are a little erroneous at times. I'm at the part of creating a sprite, assigning it an image and then rendering. When I test my application I get my box and grid but not the sprite. var mySprite:IsoSprite; mySprite = new IsoSprite(); mySprite.setSize(40, 40, 0); mySprite.moveTo(120, 40, 0); scene.addChild(mySprite); var myImgLoader:Loader = new Loader(); var myImgURL:URLRequest = new URLRequest("http://www.jsparrowhawk.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/as3isolib_styling_6b.jpg"); myImgLoader.load(myImgURL); myImgLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, imgLoadComplete); function imgLoadComplete(e:Event):void { var myImg:Bitmap = new Bitmap(e.target.content.bitmapData); mySprite.sprites = [myImg]; scene.render(); }

  • Compiler reordering around mutex boundaries?

    - by shojtsy
    Suppose I have my own non-inline functions LockMutex and UnlockMutex, which are using some proper mutex - such as boost - inside. How will the compiler know not to reorder other operations with regard to calls to the LockMutex and UnlockMutex? It can not possibly know how will I implement these functions in some other compilation unit. void SomeClass::store(int i) { LockMutex(_m); _field = i; // could the compiler move this around? UnlockMutex(_m); } ps: One is supposed to use instances of classes for holding locks to guarantee unlocking. I have left this out to simplify the example.

Every time i swipe on the screen and above process is does again and again. But it give me leak in renderImage = [[UIImage alloc] init];. Code, _renderImage = [[UIImage alloc] init]; _textImageV = [[UIImageView alloc] init]; [self renderIntoImage]; -(void)renderIntoImage { UIGraphicsBeginImageContext(bgTableView.bounds.size); [self.view.layer renderInContext:UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext()]; _renderImage = UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext(); UIGraphicsEndImageContext(); } _textImageV.image = _renderImage; [_renderImage release]; after completing the process of swipe i also releasing _textImageV. How i solve the memory leak problem in UIImage *_renderImage?

    - by Ryan
    I just realized that this cookie is not showing up like it should, and I checked the code which was not written by me but I am pretty sure that this is NOT enough to create a cookie right?? public static void CreateSSOCookies(string tokenID) { System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Response.Cookies["ssocookies"].Domain = System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Request.ServerVariables["SERVER_NAME"].ToString().ToLower(); System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Response.Cookies["ssocookies"].Value = tokenID.ToString(); System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Response.Cookies["ssocookies"].Path = "~/"; System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Response.Cookies["ssocookies"].Expires = DateTime.Now.AddDays(7); } If it does work, where is the cookie then? Is the cookie name 'ssocookies' ?

Thanks for your help.

  • Unreachable, existing variable

    - by Oden
    I'm new at as3, maybe thats the reason why i don't understand, why the setInterval causes an error. <mx:Script> <![CDATA[ import flash.utils.setInterval; import mx.controls.Alert; [Bindable] public var MyInt:int = 500; setInterval(function():void{ ++MyInt; },1000); ]]> </mx:Script> I have a label where the value of MyInt gets visible, the bind works perfect, i've tested it several ways, and i i create a button it grows the number, but if i use the setInterval function i get an error: Access of undefined property myInt. Why? What does cause this? Please explain it, so I can avoid errors like this. Thanks

  • Using Lambda Statements for Event Handlers

    - by lush
    I currently have a page which is declared as follows: public partial class MyPage : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { //snip MyButton.Click += (o, i) => { //snip } } } I've only recently moved to .NET 3.5 from 1.1, so I'm used to writing event handlers outside of the Page_Load. My question is; are there any performance drawbacks or pitfalls I should watch out for when using the lambda method for this? I prefer it, as it's certainly more concise, but I do not want to sacrifice performance to use it. Thanks.

  • More threads and orientation changes questions.

    - by synic
    When it comes to threads and orientation changes, it seems the normal thing to do is something like this: public class Bwent extends Activity { private static Bwent instance; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle icicle) { super.onCreate(icicle); instance = this; } //... That way, if you're making a network request with a thread, and someone changes the orientation of the phone, the thread will know to use the new Activity. However, is it possible that the thread could finish during the time Android is destroying the old Activity and creating a new one? Is there a moment in the process where the thread still might be pointing to the wrong Activity, or a partially destroyed activity? It seems like there shouldn't be, but even using a Handler created in the main thread, I'm having intermittent issues with a thread trying to update an object that no longer exists. It's rare, but it does happen.

  • How can I (is there a way to) convert an HRESULT into a system specific error message?

    - by Billy ONeal
    According to this, there's no way to convert a HRESULT error code into a Win32 error code. Therefore (at least to my understanding), my use of FormatMessage in order to generate error messages (i.e. std::wstring Exception::GetWideMessage() const { using std::tr1::shared_ptr; shared_ptr<void> buff; LPWSTR buffPtr; DWORD bufferLength = FormatMessageW( FORMAT_MESSAGE_FROM_SYSTEM | FORMAT_MESSAGE_ALLOCATE_BUFFER | FORMAT_MESSAGE_IGNORE_INSERTS, NULL, GetErrorCode(), 0, reinterpret_cast<LPWSTR>(&buffPtr), 0, NULL); buff.reset(buffPtr, LocalFreeHelper()); return std::wstring(buffPtr, bufferLength); } ) does not work for HRESULTs. How do I generate these kinds of system-specific error strings for HRESULTs?

  • Templates --> How to decipher, decide if necessary and create?

    - by ML
    Hi All, I have a few classes in a project that I inherited that are really old, last I knew they compiled with CodeWarrior 8. I am not in XCode 3.2 Here is an example of what I struggle with: template <class registeredObject> typename std::vector<registeredObject>::iterator FxRegistry<registeredObject>::begin(void) { return mRegistryList.begin(); } The errors are: no 'typename std::vector<registeredObject, std::allocator<_CharT> >::iterator FxRegistry<registeredObject>::begin()' member function declared in class 'FxRegistry<registeredObject>' template definition of non-template 'typename std::vector<registeredObject, std::allocator<_CharT> >::iterator FxRegistry<registeredObject>::begin()' How do I decide how to solve these and where do I start looking?

  • Add view overlay to iPhone app

    - by Rob Lourens
    I'm trying to do something like this: - (void)sectionChanged:(id)sender { [self.view addSubview:loadingView]; // Something slow [loadingView removeFromSuperview]; } where loadingView is a semi-transparent view with a UIActivityIndicatorView. However, it seems like added subview changes don't take effect until the end of this method, so the view is removed before it becomes visible. If I remove the removeFromSuperview statement, the view shows up properly after the slow processing is done and is never removed. Is there any way to get around this?

  • The ** idiom in C++ for object construction

    - by bobobobo
    In a lot of C++ API'S (COM-based ones spring to mind) that make something for you, the pointer to the object that is constructed is usually required as a ** pointer (and the function will construct and init it for you) You usually see signatures like: HRESULT createAnObject( int howbig, Object **objectYouWantMeToInitialize ) ; -- but you seldom see the new object being passed as a return value. Besides people wanting to see error codes, what is the reason for this? Is it better to use the ** pattern rather than a returned pointer for simpler operations such as: wchar_t* getUnicode( const char* src ) ; Or would this better be written as: void getUnicode( const char* src, wchar_t** dst ) ; The most important thing I can think of is to remember to free it, and the ** way, for some reason, tends to remind me that I have to deallocate it as well.

  • __FILE__ In .h what does it resolve to

    - by Pablitorun
    Is there a specification on how the FILE macro will be expanded if it is in a .h? So if I #define MYFILE __FILE__ in foo.h and foo.c #includes "foo.h" void main(){ printf("%s",MYFILE); .... does this output foo.h or foo.c? (Yes I realize this is a stupid example) Sorry for what should be a simple question. The documentation on the web seems conflicting. For what it is worth VS2008 comes back as foo.c which is what I would expect....I think. I am just trying to confirm if this is defined behavior.

  • Detect when home button is pressed iOS

    - by nick
    I have several iOS apps that all use the same port to listen for a network beacon. On the main view I use viewWillDisappear to close the port when another view is opened, which was working great. Then I noticed if I pressed the home button from the main view controller without opening another view to close the port, then the port stays open and non of my other apps can listen on that port any more. I then tried using viewWillUnload, but that doesn't seem to get called when I press the home button. -(void)viewWillUnload { //[super viewWillUnload]; NSLog(@"View will unload"); [udpSocket close]; udpSocket = nil; } View will unload is never displayed in the console, which leads me to believe that the method is never getting called. Is there a way to detect when the home button is pressed so I can close my port?
