  • Writing an AI for a turn-based board game

    - by Cyril
    Hi, i'm currently programming a board game (8x8) in which I need to develop an AI. I have read a lot of articles about AI in board games, minmax with or without alphabeta pruning, but I don't really know how to implements this, I don't know where to start... About my game, this is a turn-based game, each player has pieces on the board, they have to pick one and choose in moving this piece (1 or 2 cells max) or clone the piece (1 cell max). At the moment, I have a really stupid AI which choose a random piece then choose a random move to play... Could you please give me some clues, on how to implement this functionality ? Best regards

  • best way to use CoreLocation across multiple views

    - by Matt
    I have two views in my app, one is a general view where CoreLocation works away calculating the users location while the user is doing other stuff in the view. The second view is accessed by the user when they touch a button allowing them to locate themselves more accurately using a mapview and MapKit, i would like the mapview in this view to show the location that CoreLocation has already identified in the first view AND to continue displaying this location based on updates from CoreLocation in the other view. Is the best way here to create a singleton that encapsulates the CoreLocation stuff and have this referenced in the view with the map, or to use notifications ? or to use some other better practice for my scenario ? Thanks

  • iPhone rotation woes

    - by skooter500
    I have been spending many frustrating hours trying to get rotations working on the iPhone version of Tunepal. Firstly, I have a tab bar controller, with a navigation controller controlling each of the views. I actually only want one of my views to be able to rotate and that is the TuneDisplay. I have a subclassed the UITabBarController and overridden theshouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation: (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation) interfaceOrientation { if (self.selectedViewController != nil) { return [self.selectedViewController shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:interfaceOrientation]; } else { return (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationPortrait); } } In each of the view controllers for each of the tabs I have overridden the method and returned YES for each orientation I want to support. All well and good and everything works as it should. If I try and do a rotation on a tab that doesn’t support the rotation, nothing happens. The problem occurs if I move from a tab thats rotated to a tab that isnt supposed to support that rotation. The new tab is displayed rotated too! Screenshots for all this are included here: http://tunepal.wordpress.com/2010/04/20/rotation-woes/ Is there any way I can make it rotate back to portrait on tapping the tab? I have tried the unsupported setOrientation trick, but firstly it doesnt work correctly and secondly I received a warning from Apple for including it in my last build. If (as I suspect) there is no way to limit this behavior: How do I make the microphone image scale when I rotate the device? How do I make the buttons and the progress bar expand to fit the witdh of the toolbar? Also, one of the tabs that rotates ok has a table, with a search bar. The first time I rotate to the right or to the left, I get a black bar to the right of the search bar. If I subsequently rotate back and rotate again, the bar disappears! I have enabled the struts and springs things on the search bar in the interface builder and it looks like it should behave correctly. Any ideas about how to fix this? Ideas, feedback much appreciated Bryan

    The code below is from the book Beginning iPhone 3 Development, chapter 15, using the accelerometer to control a ball. I want to use a label instead of the ball, and only move in the x direction. However, I donno how to revise the code to achieve this goal. Can anyone please help me? THX so much!!!! (id)initWithCoder:(NSCoder *)coder { if (self = [super initWithCoder:coder]) { self.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"ball.png"]; self.currentPoint = CGPointMake((self.bounds.size.width / 2.0f) + (image.size.width / 2.0f), (self.bounds.size.height / 2.0f) + (image.size.height / 2.0f)); ballXVelocity = 0.0f; ballYVelocity = 0.0f; } return self; } (id)initWithFrame:(CGRect)frame { if (self = [super initWithFrame:frame]) { // Initialization code } return self; } (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect { // Drawing code [image drawAtPoint:currentPoint]; } (void)dealloc { [image release]; [acceleration release]; [super dealloc]; } //#pragma mark - - (CGPoint)currentPoint { return currentPoint; } - (void)setCurrentPoint:(CGPoint)newPoint { previousPoint = currentPoint; currentPoint = newPoint; if (currentPoint.x < 0) { currentPoint.x = 0; //ballXVelocity = 0; ballXVelocity = - (ballXVelocity / 2.0); } if (currentPoint.y < 0){ currentPoint.y = 0; //ballYVelocity = 0; ballYVelocity = - (ballYVelocity / 2.0); } if (currentPoint.x > self.bounds.size.width - image.size.width) { currentPoint.x = self.bounds.size.width - image.size.width; //ballXVelocity = 0; ballXVelocity = - (ballXVelocity / 2.0); } if (currentPoint.y > self.bounds.size.height - image.size.height) { currentPoint.y = self.bounds.size.height - image.size.height; //ballYVelocity = 0; ballYVelocity = - (ballYVelocity / 2.0); } CGRect currentImageRect = CGRectMake(currentPoint.x, currentPoint.y, currentPoint.x + image.size.width, currentPoint.y + image.size.height); CGRect previousImageRect = CGRectMake(previousPoint.x, previousPoint.y, previousPoint.x + image.size.width, currentPoint.y + image.size.width); [self setNeedsDisplayInRect:CGRectUnion(currentImageRect, previousImageRect)]; } (void)draw { static NSDate *lastDrawTime; if (lastDrawTime != nil) { NSTimeInterval secondsSinceLastDraw = -([lastDrawTime timeIntervalSinceNow]); ballYVelocity = ballYVelocity + -(acceleration.y * secondsSinceLastDraw); ballXVelocity = ballXVelocity + acceleration.x * secondsSinceLastDraw; CGFloat xAcceleration = secondsSinceLastDraw * ballXVelocity * 500; CGFloat yAcceleration = secondsSinceLastDraw * ballYVelocity * 500; self.currentPoint = CGPointMake(self.currentPoint.x + xAcceleration, self.currentPoint.y +yAcceleration); } // Update last time with current time [lastDrawTime release]; lastDrawTime = [[NSDate alloc] init]; }

  • Int property in class definition

    - by Daniel I-S
    I have the following class structure for custom UITableViewCells: NumericEntryCell - Contains method for controlling max value that can be entered into a textbox. SliderCell - inherits from NEC and contains methods for handling slider-control of textbox value TextOnlyCell - just contains a textbox CellA - inherits from SliderCell and has a max value of 28 CellB - inherits from TextOnlyCell and has a max value of 150. I want NumericEntryCell to contain a definition for a property that contains the maxValue. I want to be able to set a value for this in the initialize method of a child class (CellA or CellB). Currently I have an int maxValue declared in the interface of NEC. I declare a property for this with @property int maxValue and @synthesize it within the .m file. However, attempting to modify this property's value from CellA or CellB's initialize method has no effect - when I hit a breakpoint in the NEC method that uses this value, its value is always zero. How can I get this to work?

Is there any way to simplify the objectBs, and objectAs? thz a lot.

  • How to login users that are stored within a Wordpress account

    - by user3716795
    I am developing an iOS app that is password protected and all the users are stored in a wordpress account that, of course, is password protected as well. Does anybody know the format that wordpress uses to store login information for these accounts, I would assume that it is a MySQL that sends a json? I have only been able to find the database code for the initial admin page but nothing that shows the way these accounts (815 to be exact) would be stored within the site.

  • iOS: Best Way to do This w/o Calling Method 32 Times?

    - by user1886754
    I'm currently retrieving the Top 100 Scores for one of my leaderboards the following way: - (void) retrieveTop100Scores { __block int totalScore = 0; GKLeaderboard *myLB = [[GKLeaderboard alloc] init]; myLB.identifier = [Team currentTeam]; myLB.timeScope = GKLeaderboardTimeScopeAllTime; myLB.playerScope = GKLeaderboardPlayerScopeGlobal; myLB.range = NSMakeRange(1, 100); [myLB loadScoresWithCompletionHandler:^(NSArray *scores, NSError *error) { if (error != nil) { NSLog(@"%@", [error localizedDescription]); } if (scores != nil) { for (GKScore *score in scores) { NSLog(@"%lld", score.value); totalScore += score.value; } NSLog(@"Total Score: %d", totalScore); [self loadingDidEnd]; } }]; } The problem is I want to do this for 32 leaderboards. What's the best way of achieving this? Using a third party tool (Game Center Manager), I can get the following line to return a dictionary with leaderboard ID's as keys and the Top 1 highest score as values NSDictionary *highScores = [[GameCenterManager sharedManager] highScoreForLeaderboards:leaderboardIDs]; So my question is, how can I combine those 2 segments of code to pull in the 100 values for each leaderboard, resulting in a dictionary with all of the leaderboard names as keys, and the Total (of each 100 scores) of the leaderboards for values.

  • Read/Write on Plist file without using the iPhone SImulator?

    - by Silent
    Hello all, i am using an example from the iphone developer book from apress. the problem is that this example only works on the simulator im trying to figure out how i can make it work on the device. This chapter isn't working at all. below is the sample code. data.plist is located in the resource folder. NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0]; return [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:kFilename]; Below then checks to see if the file is located. this is skipped, so im guessing this does not find the file. if ([[NSFileManager defaultManager]fileExistsAtPath:filePath]) { NSArray *array = [[NSArray alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:filePath]; BGDataSave = [array objectAtIndex:0]; NSLog(@"%@", BGDataSave); price.text = [array objectAtIndex:1]; percent.text = [array objectAtIndex:2]; salepriceLabel.text = [array objectAtIndex:3]; origpriceLabel.text = [array objectAtIndex:4]; }

  • How to speed up drawing of scaled image? Audio playback chokes during window resize.

    - by Paperflyer
    I am writing an audio player for OSX. One view is a custom view that displays a waveform. The waveform is stored as a instance variable of type NSImage with an NSBitmapImageRep. The view also displays a progress indicator (a thick red line). Therefore, it is updated/redrawn every 30 milliseconds. Since it takes a rather long time to recalculate the image, I do that in a background thread after every window resize and update the displayed image once the new image is ready. In the meantime, the original image is scaled to fit the view like this: // The drawing rectangle is slightly smaller than the view, defined by // the two margins. NSRect drawingRect; drawingRect.origin = NSMakePoint(sideEdgeMarginWidth, topEdgeMarginHeight); drawingRect.size = NSMakeSize([self bounds].size.width-2*sideEdgeMarginWidth, [self bounds].size.height-2*topEdgeMarginHeight); [waveform drawInRect:drawingRect fromRect:NSZeroRect operation:NSCompositeSourceOver fraction:1]; The view makes up the biggest part of the window. During live resize, audio starts choking. Selecting the "big" graphic card on my Macbook Pro makes it less bad, but not by much. CPU utilization is somewhere around 20-40% during live resizes. Instruments suggests that rescaling/redrawing of the image is the problem. Once I stop resizing the window, CPU utilization goes down and audio stops glitching. I already tried to disable image interpolation to speed up the drawing like this: [[NSGraphicsContext currentContext] setImageInterpolation:NSImageInterpolationNone]; That helps, but audio still chokes during live resizes. Do you have an idea how to improve this? The main thing is to prevent the audio from choking.

  • recursive enumeration of integer subsets?

    - by KDaker
    I have an NSArray of NSNumbers with integer values such as [1,10,3]. I want to get the sum of all the possible subsets of these numbers. For example for 1,10 and 3 i would get: 1, 10, 3, 1+10=11, 1+3=4, 10+3=13, 1+10+3=14 there are 2^n possible combinations. I understand the math of it but im having difficulties putting this into code. so how can i put this into a method that would take the initial array of numbers and return an array with all the sums of the subsets? e.g -(NSArray *) getSums:(NSArray *)numbers; I understand that the results grow exponentially but im going to be using it for small sets of numbers.

  • Bind Java program to Cocoa interface

    Hi, would it be possible to bind a Java application to a Cocoa graphical interface? I'm working in Eclipse right now, on my mac, and am wondering if Interface Builder could be used to construct a new interface so that I don't have to look at Swing all day. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks!

  • MKPinAnnotationView - hard to drag

    - by James Zaghini
    I have a MKPinAnnotationView that the user can drag around the map. It is very difficult for a user to drag the pin. I've tried increasing the frame size and also using a giant custom image. But nothing seems to actually change the hit area for the drag to be larger than default. Consequently, I have to attempt to tap/drag about ten times before anything happens. MKPinAnnotationView *annView = [[[MKPinAnnotationView alloc] initWithAnnotation:annotation reuseIdentifier:@"bluedot"] autorelease]; UIImage *image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"blue_dot.png"]; annView.image = image; annView.draggable = YES; annView.selected = YES; return annView; What am I missing here?

  • Get current location using CLLocationCoordinate2D

    - by Mobility
    I am trying to get current location of user using CLLocationCoordinate2D. I want the values in the format like CLLocationCoordinate2D start = {-28.078694,153.382844 }; So that I can use them like following: NSString *urlAddress = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"http://maps.google.com/?saddr=%1.6f,%1.6f&daddr=%1.6f,%1.6f", start.latitude, start.longitude, destination.latitude, destination.longitude]; I used CLLocation *location = [[CLLocation alloc]init ]; CLLocationDegrees currentLatitude = location.coordinate.latitude; CLLocationDegrees currentLongitude = location.coordinate.longitude; to get current lat & long. But I am getting 0.000 for both when I try to test. I am testing on iPhone 4s. If there is any sample code, it will be great.

  • Loading an image sequence in InterfaceBuilder -ObjectiveC

    - by eco_bach
    Hi Using Actionscript and or in the Flash IDE you can either instantiate bitmaps from the library, or simply import bitmaps into the timeline of a MovieClip to create an image sequence. How would you do the same thing in InterfaceBuilder and-or using ObjectiveC? Do I need to create a new view for each and every image?
