  • What types of objects are useful in SQL CLR?

    - by Greg Low
    I've had a number of people over the years ask about whether or not a particular type of object is a good candidate for SQL CLR integration. The rules that I normally apply are as follows: Database Object Transact-SQL Managed Code Scalar UDF Generally poor performance Good option when limited or no data-access Table-valued UDF Good option if data-related Good option when limited or no data-access Stored Procedure Good option Good option when external access is required or limited data access DML...(read more)

  • Question about BoundingSpheres and Ray intersections

    - by NDraskovic
    I'm working on a XNA project (not really a game) and I'm having some trouble with picking algorithm. I have a few types of 3D models that I draw to the screen, and one of them is a switch. So I'm trying to make a picking algorithm that would enable the user to click on the switch and that would trigger some other function. The problem is that the BoundingSphere.Intersect() method always returns null as result. This is the code I'm using: In the declaration section: ` //Basic matrices private Matrix world = Matrix.CreateTranslation(new Vector3(0, 0, 0)); private Matrix view = Matrix.CreateLookAt(new Vector3(10, 10, 10), new Vector3(0, 0, 0), Vector3.UnitY); private Matrix projection = Matrix.CreatePerspectiveFieldOfView(MathHelper.ToRadians(45), 800f / 600f, 0.01f, 100f); //Collision detection variables Viewport mainViewport; List<BoundingSphere> spheres = new List<BoundingSphere>(); Ray ControlRay; Vector3 nearPoint, farPoint, nearPlane, farPlane, direction; ` And then in the Update method: ` nearPlane = new Vector3((float)Mouse.GetState().X, (float)Mouse.GetState().Y, 0.0f); farPlane = new Vector3((float)Mouse.GetState().X, (float)Mouse.GetState().Y, 10.0f); nearPoint = GraphicsDevice.Viewport.Unproject(nearPlane, projection, view, world); farPoint = GraphicsDevice.Viewport.Unproject(farPlane, projection, view, world); direction = farPoint - nearPoint; direction.Normalize(); ControlRay = new Ray(nearPoint, direction); if (spheres.Count != 0) { for (int i = 0; i < spheres.Count; i++) { if (spheres[i].Intersects(ControlRay) != null) { Window.Title = spheres[i].Center.ToString(); } else { Window.Title = "Empty"; } } ` The "spheres" list gets filled when the 3D object data gets loaded (I read it from a .txt file). For every object marked as switch (I use simple numbers to determine which object is to be drawn), a BoundingSphere is created (center is on the coordinates of the 3D object, and the diameter is always the same), and added to the list. The objects are drawn normally (and spheres.Count is not 0), I can see them on the screen, but the Window title always says "Empty" (of course this is just for testing purposes, I will add the real function when I get positive results) meaning that there is no intersection between the ControlRay and any of the bounding spheres. I think that my basic matrices (world, view and projection) are making some problems, but I cant figure out what. Please help.

  • Deciding between obj->func() and func(obj)

    - by GSto
    I was thinking about this when I was starting to set up some code for a new project: are there any rules of thumb for when a method should be part of an object, and when it should be a stand alone function that takes an object as a parameter? EDIT: as pointed out in a comment, this can depend on language. I was working in C++ when it came to mind, though I'm this is an issue across a number of languages (and would still love to see answers that pertain to them).

  • Realtime rendering using a ray tracing engine

    - by Keyhan Asghari
    I want to render an object that has a mesh with one million hexagonal elements(100 * 100 * 100). Lights, shadows and textures is not important and each element has a solid color. and finally, the actions I want to have, is simply rotating the object, zooming and panning. I am wondering what ray tracing engine is better for my conditions. or, do I have to take another approach? any help will be appreciated.

  • How can I achieve a 3D-like effect with spritebatch's rotation and scale parameters

    - by Alic44
    I'm working on a 2d game with a top-down perspective similar to Secret of Mana and the 2D Final Fantasy games, with one big difference being that it's an action rpg using a 3-dimensional physics engine. I'm trying to draw an aimer graphic (basically an arrow) at my characters' feet when they're aiming a ranged weapon. At first I just converted the character's aim vector to radians and passed that into spritebatch, but there was a problem. The position of every object in my world is scaled for perspective when it's drawn to the screen. So if the physics engine coordinates are (1, 0, 1), the screen coords are actually (1, .707) -- the Y and Z axis are scaled by a perspective factor of .707 and then added together to get the screen coordinates. This meant that the direction the aimer graphic pointed (thanks to its rotation value passed into spritebatch) didn't match up with the direction the projectile actually traveled over time. Things looked fine when the characters fired left, right, up, or down, but if you fired on a diagonal the perspective of the physics engine didn't match with the simplistic way I was converting the character's aim direction to a screen rotation. Ok, fast forward to now: I've got the aimer's rotation matched up with the path the projectile will actually take, which I'm doing by decomposing a transform matrix which I build from two rotation matrices (one to represent the aimer's rotation, and one to represent the camera's 45 degree rotation on the x axis). My question is, is there a way to get not just rotation from a series of matrix transformations, but to also get a Vector2 scale which would give the aimer the appearance of being a 3d object, being warped by perspective? Orthographic perspective is what I'm going for, I think. So, the aimer arrow would get longer when facing sideways, and shorter when facing north and south because of the perspective. At the same time, it would get wider when facing north and south, and less wide when facing right or left. I'd like to avoid actually drawing the aimer texture in 3d because I'm still using spritebatch's layerdepth parameter at this point in my project, and I don't want to have to figure out how to draw a 3d object within the depth sorting system I already have. I can provide code and more details if this is too vague as a question... This is my first post on stack exchange. Thanks a lot for reading! Note: (I think) I realize it can't be a technically correct 3D perspective, because the spritebatch's vector2 scaling argument doesn't allow for an object to be skewed the way it actually should be. What I'm really interested in is, is there a good way to fake the effect, or should I just drop it and not scale at all? Edit to clarify without the help of a picture (apparently I can't post them yet): I want the aimer arrow to look like it has been painted on the ground at the character's feet, so it should appear to be drawn on the ground plane (in my case the XZ plane) which should be tilted at a 45 degree angle (around the X axis) from the viewing perspective. • Changing direction after collision

    - by Balint
    In the first tutorial for GameMaker (catch the clown), I want to set the direction of the clown after the collision with the wall. I want to do it by pressing the wall object with the mouse (before the collision, to set the angle parameter). For example by pressing only once the wall object it would change the clown's direction after collision by 45 degrees, twice by 90 degrees, and so on. How can I do that?

  • "static" as a semantic clue about statelessness?

    - by leoger
    this might be a little philosophical but I hope someone can help me find a good way to think about this. I've recently undertaken a refactoring of a medium sized project in Java to go back and add unit tests. When I realized what a pain it was to mock singletons and statics, I finally "got" what I've been reading about them all this time. (I'm one of those people that needs to learn from experience. Oh well.) So, now that I'm using Spring to create the objects and wire them around, I'm getting rid of static keywords left and right. (If I could potentially want to mock it, it's not really static in the same sense that Math.abs() is, right?) The thing is, I had gotten into the habit of using static to denote that a method didn't rely on any object state. For example: //Before import com.thirdparty.ThirdPartyLibrary.Thingy; public class ThirdPartyLibraryWrapper { public static Thingy newThingy(InputType input) { new Thingy.Builder().withInput(input).alwaysFrobnicate().build(); } } //called as... ThirdPartyLibraryWrapper.newThingy(input); //After public class ThirdPartyFactory { public Thingy newThingy(InputType input) { new Thingy.Builder().withInput(input).alwaysFrobnicate().build(); } } //called as... thirdPartyFactoryInstance.newThingy(input); So, here's where it gets touchy-feely. I liked the old way because the capital letter told me that, just like Math.sin(x), ThirdPartyLibraryWrapper.newThingy(x) did the same thing the same way every time. There's no object state to change how the object does what I'm asking it to do. Here are some possible answers I'm considering. Nobody else feels this way so there's something wrong with me. Maybe I just haven't really internalized the OO way of doing things! Maybe I'm writing in Java but thinking in FORTRAN or somesuch. (Which would be impressive since I've never written FORTRAN.) Maybe I'm using staticness as a sort of proxy for immutability for the purposes of reasoning about code. That being said, what clues should I have in my code for someone coming along to maintain it to know what's stateful and what's not? Perhaps this should just come for free if I choose good object metaphors? e.g. thingyWrapper doesn't sound like it has state indepdent of the wrapped Thingy which may itself be mutable. Similarly, a thingyFactory sounds like it should be immutable but could have different strategies that are chosen among at creation. I hope I've been clear and thanks in advance for your advice!

  • Annotation Processor for Superclass Sensitive Actions

    - by Geertjan
    Someone creating superclass sensitive actions should need to specify only the following things: The condition under which the popup menu item should be available, i.e., the condition under which the action is relevant. And, for superclass sensitive actions, the condition is the name of a superclass. I.e., if I'm creating an action that should only be invokable if the class implements "org.openide.windows.TopComponent",  then that fully qualified name is the condition. The position in the list of Java class popup menus where the new menu item should be found, relative to the existing menu items. The display name. The path to the action folder where the new action is registered in the Central Registry. The code that should be executed when the action is invoked. In other words, the code for the enablement (which, in this case, means the visibility of the popup menu item when you right-click on the Java class) should be handled generically, under the hood, and not every time all over again in each action that needs this special kind of enablement. So, here's the usage of my newly created @SuperclassBasedActionAnnotation, where you should note that the DataObject must be in the Lookup, since the action will only be available to be invoked when you right-click on a Java source file (i.e., text/x-java) in an explorer view: import java.awt.event.ActionEvent; import java.awt.event.ActionListener; import org.netbeans.sbas.annotations.SuperclassBasedActionAnnotation; import org.openide.awt.StatusDisplayer; import org.openide.loaders.DataObject; import org.openide.util.NbBundle; import org.openide.util.Utilities; @SuperclassBasedActionAnnotation( position=30, displayName="#CTL_BrandTopComponentAction", path="File", type="org.openide.windows.TopComponent") @NbBundle.Messages("CTL_BrandTopComponentAction=Brand") public class BrandTopComponentAction implements ActionListener { private final DataObject context; public BrandTopComponentAction() { context = Utilities.actionsGlobalContext().lookup(DataObject.class); } @Override public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ev) { String message = context.getPrimaryFile().getPath(); StatusDisplayer.getDefault().setStatusText(message); } } That implies I've created (in a separate module to where it is used) a new annotation. Here's the definition: package org.netbeans.sbas.annotations; import java.lang.annotation.ElementType; import java.lang.annotation.Retention; import java.lang.annotation.RetentionPolicy; import java.lang.annotation.Target; @Retention(RetentionPolicy.SOURCE) @Target(ElementType.TYPE) public @interface SuperclassBasedActionAnnotation { String type(); String path(); int position(); String displayName(); } And here's the processor: package org.netbeans.sbas.annotations; import java.util.Set; import javax.annotation.processing.Processor; import javax.annotation.processing.RoundEnvironment; import javax.annotation.processing.SupportedAnnotationTypes; import javax.annotation.processing.SupportedSourceVersion; import javax.lang.model.SourceVersion; import javax.lang.model.element.Element; import javax.lang.model.element.TypeElement; import javax.lang.model.util.Elements; import org.openide.filesystems.annotations.LayerBuilder.File; import org.openide.filesystems.annotations.LayerGeneratingProcessor; import org.openide.filesystems.annotations.LayerGenerationException; import org.openide.util.lookup.ServiceProvider; @ServiceProvider(service = Processor.class) @SupportedAnnotationTypes("org.netbeans.sbas.annotations.SuperclassBasedActionAnnotation") @SupportedSourceVersion(SourceVersion.RELEASE_6) public class SuperclassBasedActionProcessor extends LayerGeneratingProcessor { @Override protected boolean handleProcess(Set annotations, RoundEnvironment roundEnv) throws LayerGenerationException { Elements elements = processingEnv.getElementUtils(); for (Element e : roundEnv.getElementsAnnotatedWith(SuperclassBasedActionAnnotation.class)) { TypeElement clazz = (TypeElement) e; SuperclassBasedActionAnnotation mpm = clazz.getAnnotation(SuperclassBasedActionAnnotation.class); String teName = elements.getBinaryName(clazz).toString(); String originalFile = "Actions/" + mpm.path() + "/" + teName.replace('.', '-') + ".instance"; File actionFile = layer(e).file( originalFile). bundlevalue("displayName", mpm.displayName()). methodvalue("instanceCreate", "org.netbeans.sbas.annotations.SuperclassSensitiveAction", "create"). stringvalue("type", mpm.type()). newvalue("delegate", teName); actionFile.write(); File javaPopupFile = layer(e).file( "Loaders/text/x-java/Actions/" + teName.replace('.', '-') + ".shadow"). stringvalue("originalFile", originalFile). intvalue("position", mpm.position()); javaPopupFile.write(); } return true; } } The "SuperclassSensitiveAction" referred to in the code above is unchanged from how I had it in yesterday's blog entry. When I build the module containing two action listeners that use my new annotation, the generated layer file looks as follows, which is identical to the layer file entries I hard coded yesterday: <folder name="Actions"> <folder name="File"> <file name="org-netbeans-sbas-impl-ActionListenerSensitiveAction.instance"> <attr name="displayName" stringvalue="Process Action Listener"/> <attr methodvalue="org.netbeans.sbas.annotations.SuperclassSensitiveAction.create" name="instanceCreate"/> <attr name="type" stringvalue="java.awt.event.ActionListener"/> <attr name="delegate" newvalue="org.netbeans.sbas.impl.ActionListenerSensitiveAction"/> </file> <file name="org-netbeans-sbas-impl-BrandTopComponentAction.instance"> <attr bundlevalue="org.netbeans.sbas.impl.Bundle#CTL_BrandTopComponentAction" name="displayName"/> <attr methodvalue="org.netbeans.sbas.annotations.SuperclassSensitiveAction.create" name="instanceCreate"/> <attr name="type" stringvalue="org.openide.windows.TopComponent"/> <attr name="delegate" newvalue="org.netbeans.sbas.impl.BrandTopComponentAction"/> </file> </folder> </folder> <folder name="Loaders"> <folder name="text"> <folder name="x-java"> <folder name="Actions"> <file name="org-netbeans-sbas-impl-ActionListenerSensitiveAction.shadow"> <attr name="originalFile" stringvalue="Actions/File/org-netbeans-sbas-impl-ActionListenerSensitiveAction.instance"/> <attr intvalue="10" name="position"/> </file> <file name="org-netbeans-sbas-impl-BrandTopComponentAction.shadow"> <attr name="originalFile" stringvalue="Actions/File/org-netbeans-sbas-impl-BrandTopComponentAction.instance"/> <attr intvalue="30" name="position"/> </file> </folder> </folder> </folder> </folder>

  • What are atan and atan2 used for in games?

    - by kyrogue
    I am having some trouble understanding Math.tan() and Math.atan() and Math.atan2(). I have basic knowledge of trigonmetry but the usage of SIN, COS, and TAN etc for game development is very new to me. I am reading on some tutorials and I see that by using tangent we can get the angle in which one object needs to be rotated by how much to face another object for example my mouse. So why do we still need to use atan or atan2?

  • Different bounding volumes for culling and collision detection

    - by Serthy
    Should an object in a 3D-engine use different bounding volumes for collision-detection (broad-phase) and culling? Basically class renderBounds and class physBounds versus class boundingVolume? Each of this classes then could either contain the same type of volumes (AABB's, kDOP's, sphere's etc.) or a special fitting one for the particular object. (note: without considering of using an external physics engine)

  • Rotate camera around player and set new forward directions

    - by Samurai Fox
    I have a 3rd person camera which can rotate around the player. When I look at the back of the player and press forward, player goes forward. Then I rotate 360 around the player and "forward direction" is tilted for 90 degrees. So every 360 turn there is 90 degrees of direction change. For example when camera is facing the right side of the player, when I press button to move forward, I want player to turn to the left and make that the "new forward". I have Player object with Camera as child object. Camera object has Camera script. Inside Camera script there are Player and Camera classes. Player object itself, has Input Controller. Also I'm making this script for joystick/ controller primarily. My camera script so far: using UnityEngine; using System.Collections; public class CameraScript : MonoBehaviour { public GameObject Target; public float RotateSpeed = 10, FollowDistance = 20, FollowHeight = 10; float RotateSpeedPerTime, DesiredRotationAngle, DesiredHeight, CurrentRotationAngle, CurrentHeight, Yaw, Pitch; Quaternion CurrentRotation; void LateUpdate() { RotateSpeedPerTime = RotateSpeed * Time.deltaTime; DesiredRotationAngle = Target.transform.eulerAngles.y; DesiredHeight = Target.transform.position.y + FollowHeight; CurrentRotationAngle = transform.eulerAngles.y; CurrentHeight = transform.position.y; CurrentRotationAngle = Mathf.LerpAngle(CurrentRotationAngle, DesiredRotationAngle, 0); CurrentHeight = Mathf.Lerp(CurrentHeight, DesiredHeight, 0); CurrentRotation = Quaternion.Euler(0, CurrentRotationAngle, 0); transform.position = Target.transform.position; transform.position -= CurrentRotation * Vector3.forward * FollowDistance; transform.position = new Vector3(transform.position.x, CurrentHeight, transform.position.z); Yaw = Input.GetAxis("Right Horizontal") * RotateSpeedPerTime; Pitch = Input.GetAxis("Right Vertical") * RotateSpeedPerTime; transform.Translate(new Vector3(Yaw, -Pitch, 0)); transform.position = new Vector3(transform.position.x, transform.position.y, transform.position.z); transform.LookAt(Target.transform); } }

  • Is this paragraph in Code Complete 2 backwards, or am I misunderstanding it?

    - by user828584
    In chapter 13, when talking about pointers, there is a paragraph: Sometimes, however, you would like to have the semantics of pass by reference—that is, that the passed object should not be altered—with the implementation of pass by value—that is, passing the actual object rather than a copy. It seems like the author made a mistake and mixed the two up. Is this true, or am I not understanding what he's saying correctly?

    How to detect a collision between a sprite and a user generated shape of some sort. For example. There are some objects on the screen. • How can I model a pendulum blade?

    - by Micah Delane Bolen
    Like this one from Saw V: What primitive shape/s would you start out with? How would you transform the primitive shape/s to give it a nice, smooth, sharp blade on one side without distorting the entire object in a weird way? I tried starting out with a cylinder and then subtracting the top half using a duplicate cylinder and a difference modifier, but I ended up distorting the entire object when I tried to pull the "blade" edges together. I think I need to add lattices to smoothly "sharpen" the edge of the blade.

It does not seem to rotate the spheres continuously. What am i doing wrong?

  • How to move the mouse

    - by GroundZero
    I'm making a little bot in C#. At the moment it works pretty well, it can load text from a file and type it for you. But for now, I need to manualy click the textfield to put the focus on it, remaximize my form and then click the Type-button. After the typing, I need to manualy slide the scorebar and press submit. I'd like to know how I can move my mouse with C# and if possible, if possible I'd like to load the mouse positions from a xml-file. I need to move to the textfield, click in it to focus on it, start the type script, move to the slider, hold the mouse down on it while dragging, releasing it on the correct position & clicking on the submitbutton This is what I have for now: To load in the variables, I'm using this script: private void Initialize() { XmlTextReader reader = new XmlTextReader(Application.StartupPath + @"..\..\..\CursorPositions.xml"); while (reader.Read()) { switch (reader.NodeType) { case XmlNodeType.Element: // The node is an element. element = reader.Value; break; case XmlNodeType.Text: //Display the text in each element. switch (element) { case "Textbox-X": textX = int.Parse(reader.Value); break; case "Textbox-Y": textY = int.Parse(reader.Value); break; case "SliderBegin-X": sliderX = int.Parse(reader.Value); break; case "SliderBegin-Y": sliderY = int.Parse(reader.Value); break; case "SubmitButton-X": submitX = int.Parse(reader.Value); break; case "SubmitButton-Y": submitY = int.Parse(reader.Value); break; } break; } } This is the xml-file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <CursorPositions> <Textbox-X>430</Textbox-X> <Textbox-Y>270</Textbox-Y> <SliderBegin-X>430</SliderBegin-X> <SliderBegin-Y>470</SliderBegin-Y> <SubmitButton-X>860</SubmitButton-X> <SubmitButton-Y>365</SubmitButton-Y> </CursorPositions> To move the mouse I'm using this piece of code: public partial class FrmMain : Form { [System.Runtime.InteropServices.DllImport("user32.dll")] public static extern void mouse_event(int dwFlags, int dx, int dy, int cButtons, int dwExtraInfo); public const int MOUSEEVENTF_LEFTDOWN = 0x0002; public const int MOUSEEVENTF_LEFTUP = 0x0004; public const int MOUSEEVENTF_RIGHTDOWN = 0x0008; public const int MOUSEEVENTF_RIGHTUP = 0x0010; ... private void btnStart_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { // start button (de)activates loop if (!running) { btnStart.Text = "Stop"; btnStart.Cursor = Cursors.No; running = true; } else { btnStart.Text = "Start"; btnStart.Cursor = Cursors.AppStarting; running = false; } while (running) { // move to textbox & type Cursor.Position = new Point(textX, textY); mouse_event(MOUSEEVENTF_LEFTDOWN, textX, textY, 0, 0); mouse_event(MOUSEEVENTF_LEFTUP, textX, textY, 0, 0); Type(); // wait 90 seconds till slider available Thread.Sleep(90 * 1000); // move to slider & slide according to score Cursor.Position = new Point(sliderX, sliderY); mouse_event(MOUSEEVENTF_LEFTDOWN, sliderX, sliderY, 0, 0); Cursor.Position = new Point(sliderX + 345 / 10 * score, sliderY); mouse_event(MOUSEEVENTF_LEFTUP, sliderX + 345 / 10 * score, sliderY, 0, 0); // submit Cursor.Position = new Point(submitX, submitY); mouse_event(MOUSEEVENTF_LEFTDOWN, submitX, submitY, 0, 0); mouse_event(MOUSEEVENTF_LEFTUP, submitX, submitY, 0, 0); // wait 10 sec to be sure it's submitted Thread.Sleep(10 * 1000); // refresh page SendKeys.SendWait("{F5}"); // get new text NewText(); // wait 10 sec to refresh and load song Thread.Sleep(10 * 1000); } } } PS: I get the coordinates via my form. I've got 2 labels that show my X & Y coordinates. To capture them outside the form, I press and hold my Left Mouse Button and 'drag' it outside the form to the correct place. This way I get the coordinates of my mouse outside the form

To get started let's go ahead and fire up Visual Studio and create a new WebForm.  Now let's build our menu by adding some div, p and anchor tags. Since I'm using a masterpage then the ASPX mark-up should look something like this:   1: <asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server"> 2: <div id="Menu"> 3: <p>CARS</p> 4: <div class="section"> 5: <a href="#">Car 1</a> 6: <a href="#">Car 2</a> 7: <a href="#">Car 3</a> 8: <a href="#">Car 4</a> 9: </div> 10: <p>BIKES</p> 11: <div class="section"> 12: <a href="#">Bike 1</a> 13: <a href="#">Bike 2</a> 14: <a href="#">Bike 3</a> 15: <a href="#">Bike 4</a> 16: <a href="#">Bike 5</a> 17: <a href="#">Bike 6</a> 18: <a href="#">Bike 7</a> 19: <a href="#">Bike 8</a> 20: </div> 21: <p>COMPUTERS</p> 22: <div class="section"> 23: <a href="#">Computer 1</a> 24: <a href="#">Computer 2</a> 25: <a href="#">Computer 3</a> 26: <a href="#">Computer 4</a> 27: </div> 28: <p>OTHERS</p> 29: <div class="section"> 30: <a href="#">Other 1</a> 31: <a href="#">Other 2</a> 32: <a href="#">Other 3</a> 33: <a href="#">Other 4</a> 34: </div> 35: </div> 36: </asp:Content>   As you can see there's nothing fancy about the mark up above.. Now lets go ahead create a simple CSS to set the look and feel our our Menu. Just for for the simplicity of this demo, add the following CSS below under the <head> section of the page or if you are using master page then add it a the content head. Here's the CSS below:   1: <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="HeadContent" runat="server"> 2: <style type="text/css"> 3: #Menu{ 4: width:300px; 5: } 6: #Menu > p{ 7: background-color:#104D9E; 8: color:#F5F7FA; 9: margin:0; 10: padding:0; 11: border-bottom-style: solid; 12: border-bottom-width: medium; 13: border-bottom-color:#000000; 14: cursor:pointer; 15: } 16: #Menu .section{ 17: padding-left:5px; 18: background-color:#C0D9FA; 19: } 20: a{ 21: display:block; 22: color:#0A0A07; 23: } 24: </style> 25: </asp:Content>   Now let's add the collapsible effects on our menu using jQuery. To start using jQuery then register the following script at the very top of the <head> section of the page or if you are using master page then add it the very top of  the content head section.   <script type="text/javascript" src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.4/jquery.min.js" ></script>   As you can see I'm using Google AJAX API CDN to host the jQuery file. You can also download the jQuery here and host it in your server if you'd like. Okay here's the the jQuery script below for adding the collapsible effects:   1: <script type="text/javascript"> 2: $(function () { 3: $("a").mouseover(function () { $(this).addClass("highlightRow"); }) 4: .mouseout(function () { $(this).removeClass("highlightRow"); }); 5:   6: $(".section").hide(); 7: $("#Menu > p").click(function () { 8: $(this).next().slideToggle("Slow"); 9: }); 10: }); 11: </script>   Okay to give you a little bit of explaination, at line 3.. what it does is it looks for all the "<a>" anchor elements on the page and attach the mouseover and mouseout event. On mouseover, the highlightRow css class is added to <a> element and on mouse out we remove the css class to revert the style to its default look. at line 6 we will hide all the elements that has a class name set as "section" and if you look at the mark up above it is refering to the <div> elements right after each <p> element. At line 7.. what it does is it looks for a <p> element that is a direct child of the element that has an ID of "Menu" and then attach the click event to toggle the visibilty of the section. Here's how it looks in the page: On Initial Load: After Clicking the Section Header:   That's it! I hope someone find this post usefu!   Technorati Tags: ASP.NET,JQuery,Master Page,JavaScript

  • Question about design

    - by lukeluke
    Two fast questions about two design decisions: Suppose that you are checking collisions between game elements. When you find a collision between object 1 and object 2, do you play immediately a sound effect or do you insert it in a list and, in a later a stage, do you process all sound effects? Same question as above for user input. When the user presses key 'keypad left' do you insert the event in a queue and process it later or do you update character position immediately? Thx

  • Why has the accessor methods from the JavaBean specification become the standard for Java development?

    - by Dakotah North
    The JavaBeans Specification describes a JavaBean as A Java Bean is a reusable software component that can be manipulated visually in a builder tool Since the majority of the lines of code that are written seem to have nothing to do with being manipulated visually in a builder tool, why has the JavaBean specification been the "way" to write object oriented code? I would like to forgo the traditional getter/setter in favor of Fluent Interfaces all throughout the code, not just in builders but fear doing so since this is traditionally not the way way object oriented code is written in Java.

  • Do first-class methods exist?

    - by gdhoward
    Okay, I know first-class functions are cool, closures even better, etc. But is there any language with first-class methods? In my mind, I see a first-class method as an "object" that has both a function pointer and a pointer to a specific instance of the class/object, but the implementation doesn't matter. I just want to know if there is any language that uses them. And as a bonus, how were they implemented?
