• Reputable web based ssh client?

  I'm sitting at a coffee shop right now, and I suspected I'd be able to ssh somewhere. Unlucky me they seem to be blocking everything but web traffic. I googled "web based ssh clients" however I have reservations about entering my login credentials on any Joe Schmoe's web app. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with any reputable web based ssh clients? If so could you please point me at one that I could trust?

• Word Opening Text Files by default as RTL, should be LTR

  I've noticed recently that Microsoft Word 2007 on Windows XP is opening by default straight text files as RTL instead of LTR. These are English written files, and contain no Unicode or characters other than ASCII. I work in three or four languages on the computer so have the language bar open, this problem happens when the language is selected to EN (United Kingdom). Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere, perhaps in Word itself?

  I'm getting a Lenovo T520 with two graphics cards: Integrated Intel HD 3000 Discrete NVidia NVS 4200M In BIOS, I can adjust which card(s) to use: Integrated only Discrete only Both (NVidia optimus) Since optimus is not well supported under Linux, I wonder if it is OK to set up the system to use the NVidia card all the time. I have read somewhere that a laptop risks overheating if using a discrete graphics card all the time. Is this true? Does someone have any experience to share?

I noticed they all have similar folder names in the root directory bin boot dev etc home lib lost+found media mnt opt proc root sbin selinux srv sys tmp usr var I googled around, but couldn't find anywhere that explained the purpose of each of these. I understand a couple, but could anyone point me somewhere or give a quick breakdown of the common ones.

  I have written a stored procedure in MSSQL Server 2008 R2 which sends emails when my Application logs errors. It works fine on servers at our office but when I ran it on our remote servers I got must issue a starttls command first So maybe there is a setting somewhere which is different between the two servers, and that's why it's working on one and not the other. How do I set the server so that it issues a "starttls commaned first"?

• I am getting unmountable_boot_volume STOP 0x000000ED

  I read somewhere that the Ultimate Boot CD can diagnose computer problems. In this case would this program help me get my Windows XP back? When I turn on the screen and hit "Start Windows Normally" or go to Safe Mode I get a flash of the WinXP logo and then it goes to this error page. Can you tell from this message is it a hardware or software issue?

  I have added a install for Silver light to my MDT server, so it can get installed when the image gets deployed. When I boot them machines it is asking me to install the applications, how can i get it to auto install the apps without prompting.   I need a cheap netbook for "router" functions. [OpenBSD/Scientific Linux/whatever will be on it on OS level]. So once I configure it I will put it somewhere down for YEARS. The Question is: What is the lifespan difference of the netbook if it will be [for years]: with opened lid with closed lid I don't think there will be heat problems, because netbooks doesn't produce too much heat. But will ex.: a closed lid [for years] decrease the lifespan of a netbook?

• montoring service to detect when email is not received

  I would like to monitor an email server - not whether the port is open and receiving, but rather that a "canary" message sent every so often actually arrives somewhere else. I have had a problem with a server getting firewalled off and no one noticing that cron jobs are not coming from the machine for a few weeks. Of course, the machine itself cannot send out a notification if it is having problems, so this requires an outside service. Any ideas?

With lots of windows and workspaces open, it's easy to reopen a file that you already have open somewhere else.   Lately I've been using Visual Studio 2008 and about once a day, sometimes more it will lock up. What advanced techniques can I use to determine what is causing the problem? I believe that it's one of the plug-ins I'm using *cough*Resharper*cough* but I'd like to be sure. I've been losing work and I'd like to file a bug report somewhere but I'm not seeing anything in any of my event logs which looks suspect to me. Working on a Windows XP box.

• What's the maximum size Windows 7 allows for ReadyBoost?

  I read somewhere the Windows 7 had removed the limit on ReadyBoost from 4GB and now allows an unlimited number of GBs. I would like to reconfirm this as a fact. At present, my Windows 7 RC 7100 allows me a maximum of 4GB on one of my 8GB flash drives (though I've tried to connect two at a time and use 4GB on one and 2GB on another). Thanks!

  I wanted to try out the Thunderbird 3.0 Beta 4 because I have some issues with Thundebird 2 that I know are fixed in 3.0. The question is, is it possible to downgrade from Thunderbird 3.0 to 2.0 or are there any problems with the preferences or mail format (I read somewhere that Tb3 uses a sqLite database for some of its storage)? According to http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/3.0b4/releasenotes/ it is possible to remove the application itself, but it does not say anything about data compatibility.
