• Disable update on battery percentage

  I have a service that performs background updates. I want to give the user the the option to disable the updates when their battery percentage reaches a certain level. From my research, I'm going to use a receiver in the onCreate method of my Service class, eg: public class MainService extends Service { @Override public void onCreate() { this.registerReceiver(this.BatInfoReceiver, new IntentFilter(Intent.ACTION_BATTERY_CHANGED)); } private BroadcastReceiver BatInfoReceiver = new BroadcastReceiver(){ @Override public void onReceive(Context arg0, Intent intent) { int level = intent.getIntExtra("level", 0); } }; } I'm assuming the best practice is to leave the service running and check the battery level in the service and not perform the CPU intensive code based on the percentage? I don't actually stop the service itself and start it up again, based on the battery percentage?

In this Thread(Mehtod) I´m using the Dispatcher to Refresh my Image in the ViewBox after the calculations are ready. When I´m dont put the calculation in a seperate Thread then I can refresh or build my Image. PS: Sry for my bad english

  I'm doing something similar to close caption but not exactly the same. I have a youtube video, and I want to display certain messages at specific points in the video. When the video loads, I pull entries from the database in the format time and sentence. For example, at 0:20 the speaker says "don't forget to write down my email that you see on the side" and I want to display the email on the side. At 0:50, he says "and I'll post my office hours" so I want to show those office hours at that time. How can I do this. The video itself is hosted on youtube, but is being displayed on a private website. The div where I want to display the messages is <div id="write">.

• Why are Objective-C instance variables declared in an interface?

  I'm just getting into Objective-C (Java is my primary OO language). Defining an object's instance variables in the interface instead of the class seems strange. I'm used to an interface being a public API definition with nothing besides method signatures (not counting constants here). Is there some reason that state is defined in an interface (even if it is private) and behaviour is defined in a class. It just seems odd that since objects are state+behavior that the definition would be split into two separate places. Is it a design benefit is some way? A pain in the rear issue that you are just forced to deal with in Objective-C? A non-issue, just different? Any background on why it's done this way? Or can you put object state in a class and I just haven't hit that part in my book yet?

  I'm writing an RPC middleware in C++. I have a class named RPCClientProxy that contains a socket client inside: class RPCClientProxy { ... private: Socket* pSocket; ... } The constructor: RPCClientProxy::RPCClientProxy(host, port) { pSocket = new Socket(host, port); } As you can see, I don't need to tell the user that I have a socket inside. Although, to make unit tests for my proxies it would be necessary to create mocks for sockets and pass them to the proxies, and to do so I must use a setter or pass a factory to the sockets in the proxies's constructors. My question: According to TDD, is it acceptable to do it ONLY because the tests? As you can see, these changes would change the way the library is used by a programmer.

• android drawable changes sizes on screen when reading image from file

  Hi I have an image on a private file. I read the file, create the drawable, and assign it to an ImageView. The ImageView has WRAP_CONTENT so the size is automatic. On 320x480 screens, the image looks good But on screens with more resolution and high density 480x800 or 480x854 (N1, droid) , when the image is for example 150x150, I see the image as 100x100. Of course it has something to do with the density but not sure how should I resolve this. • Referencing a different project in the same assembly, different namespaces

  I have two projects : Menu and Module and they are both in the same namespace foobar. I am currently referencing the module project from the Menu project to open up certain controls on a tab control in my menu. However I need to launch a new control from one of my controls which is located in the Module project. When I try referencing the menu project, it does not show up in my intellisense when I try to reference it with a using. Am I doing something wrong logically here? This is 21st century there must be some tool which would help me to understand the code, perhaps some kind of IDE or "code navigator".   I'm attempting to send a message to a remote private queue from an error queue with powershell. Anyone's got any idea what could trigger such an error? The queue definitely exists- I do manage to peek it. Also, the reason I get the message from the error queue by peeking is just for testing purposes; I have tried doing the same thing with Receive and the result is the same.

And when I use hbm2ddl to generate the ddls, I can have this table, along with the foreign key constraint on "user_id". However, there is no index of this for this column. And I need this index. How can I let hibernate to generate this index for me? Thank you!

• Anyway to improve my gzip PHP method?

  I Gzip my pages currently like so: <?php ob_start("ob_gzhandler"); //my page content ob_flush(); ?> However, I read a comment somewhere, earlier on, that this method uses a lot of memory, and I know that my website has been using a lot of memory on my virtual private server, so I thought it would be nice if I knew a way to reduce memory usage. I tested my site with an online gzip tester which says my websites are sending gzipped pages, so my gzip method works, but the main obviously I'm looking for a less memory intensive option, if any. I appreciate all suggestions. :) Oh and merry christmas ;P
