• Gmail not to display receiver's name

  When picking receiver from my contact, the receiver's name will be displayed as well, like "Somebody" . But I don't want receiver to know how I named them. I just want them see receiver as [email protected]. Can I do this in gmail? Thanks.

• Emulate a VPN through ssh

  I have a Linux server running ubuntu 10.04 server. I would like to tunnel my iPhone traffic through this server using ssh, but that's not such an easy solution. Is there a way to simulate a VPN over ssh so that I can configure my iPhone to connect to this VPN and protect my traffic? I know I could set up a real VPN server but it looks kind of complicated and "expensive" (resources I mean). Any ideas? Thanks!

  Does mysql replication supports delayed sync if remote slave server is OFF? For example I want to make my developing server have a fresh copy of databases each morning. It should be partial sync, not full copy of databases each morning. And synchronization should be only ONE way, not duplex, to avoid deleting something of master server. What I'm not really sure about is if I put my old hard drive on an external case, then install Ubuntu on the new one and configure, etc... • Using AutoHotKey to change audio output source?

  I have two primary audio outputs on my machine: The speakers and a USB headset. Currently, in Windows 7 Professional x64, I type "sound" in the Start search menu to open up this dialog: I only care about the top two options for the purposes of this question. I would like to know if there's a way in AutoHotKey to switch from "Speakers (4- Sennheiser USB Headset)" to "Speakers (VIA High Definition Audio)" so I can avoid having to open this dialog every time I wish to switch. • Wiping a laptop from Bios

  I am trying to wipe an old laptops hard drive, it doesn't have a CD drive so have been using a USB to try and wipe the hard drive from the BIOS. I have been using http://www.dban.org/ which I installed as an ISO on the USB Stick. When ever I try to boot into this I get an error saying 'No operating system' Does anyone know of a way to wipe a hard drive? I also tried to boot into safe mode but I just stay on a constant loop.   Hey, I'm thinking about the architecture for a new Webserver. Would having Varnish as a cache in front of Nginx as a reverse-proxy and serving static files in front of apache for all heavy lifting be a good idea? I'm going to run php and ruby on rails applications. Will there be too much overhead passing php requests to apache through two other processes? Thanks a lot!

• domain resolves old ip on win 7

  Hi, I recently have moved my server and changed nameservers and ip, i updated my domain. but somehow in windows 7 when i go to my domain, it resolves old ip even though mac os x shows the new site. Then i edited hosts file with the new ip in windows, it is ok now. but why this happens ? is it about isp cache or sth ? thanks

  I found a few hundred of the following errors in my syslog following some configuration changes: warning: maildir access problem for UID/GID=5000/5000: create maildir file /home/vmail/domain/account1 /tmp/1273028517.P14666.domain.com: Permission denied I made a temporary fix for now (the ole' standby, chmod 777), but I would like to know if this is a permanent error (lost mail) or if these are retried/requeued.   Has anyone written a compatibility wrapper for svlogd to function as a drop-in replacement for multilog? I'm a fan of UNIX process supervision in the style of daemontools and lately of runit. While runit offers a compatibility mode for many of the daemontools utilities, there is AFAIK no such offering for svlogd. I've got a few systems I'd like to switch over to runit, but I'd rather not modify the .../log/run scripts of every supervised process on those machines. Thanks.
