  • How to fix: unrecognized selector sent to instance

    - by Matt
    I am having a problem that may be simple to fix, but not simple for me to debug. I simple have a button inside a view in IB; the file's owner is set to the view controller class I am using and when making the connections, everything seems fine, ie. the connector is finding the method I am trying to call etc. however, I am receiving this error: Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '*** -[UIApplication getStarted:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x3d19130' My code is as follows: RootViewController.h @interface RootViewController : UIViewController { IBOutlet UIButton* getStartedButton; } @property (nonatomic, retain) UIButton* getStartedButton; - (IBAction) getStarted: (id)sender; @end RootViewController.m #import "RootViewController.h" #import "SimpleDrillDownAppDelegate.h" @implementation RootViewController @synthesize getStartedButton; - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; } - (IBAction) getStarted: (id)sender { NSLog(@"Button Tapped!"); //[self.view removeFromSuperview]; } - (void)dealloc { [getStartedButton release]; [super dealloc]; } @end Seems simple enough...any thoughs?

  • Explanation of `self` usage during dealloc?

    - by Greg
    I'm trying to lock down my understanding of proper memory management within Objective-C. I've gotten into the habit of explicitly declaring self.myProperty rather than just myProperty because I was encountering occasional scenarios where a property would not be set to the reference that I intended. Now, I'm reading Apple documentation on releasing IBOutlets, and they say that all outlets should be set to nil during dealloc. So, I put this in place as follows and experienced crashes as a result: - (void)dealloc { [self.dataModel close]; [self.dataModel release], self.dataModel = nil; [super dealloc]; } So, I tried taking out the "self" references, like so: - (void)dealloc { [dataModel close]; [dataModel release], dataModel = nil; [super dealloc]; } This second system seems to work as expected. However, it has me a bit confused. Why would self cause a crash in that case, when I thought self was a fairly benign reference more used as a formality than anything else? Also, if self is not appropriate in this case, then I have to ask: when should you include self references, and when should you not?

  • How can I edit an incoming text message (sms) as it arrives in windows mobile 6 using managed code

    - by x86shadow
    I want to make an application for pocket PCs to send and receive Encrypted text messages. I have already made an application that gets special text messages ( starting with !farenc! ) and I know how to Encrypt/Decrypt the messages as well. The problem is that I don't know how to edit a text message after it's arrived (for decryption). See code below for more info. using System; using System.Linq; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.ComponentModel; using System.Data; using System.Drawing; using System.Text; using System.Windows.Forms; using Microsoft.WindowsMobile; using Microsoft.WindowsMobile.PocketOutlook; using Microsoft.WindowsMobile.PocketOutlook.MessageInterception; namespace SMSDECRYPT { public partial class Form1 : Form { MessageInterceptor _SMSCatcher = new MessageInterceptor(InterceptionAction.Notify, true); MessageCondition _SMSFilter = new MessageCondition(); public Form1() { InitializeComponent(); _SMSFilter.Property = MessageProperty.Body; _SMSFilter.ComparisonType = MessagePropertyComparisonType.StartsWith; _SMSFilter.CaseSensitive = true; _SMSFilter.ComparisonValue = "!farenc!"; _SMSCatcher.MessageCondition = _SMSFilter; _SMSCatcher.MessageReceived += new MessageInterceptorEventHandler(_SMSCatcher_MessageReceived); } private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { //... } void _SMSCatcher_MessageReceived(object sender, MessageInterceptorEventArgs e) { SmsMessage mySMS = (SmsMessage)e.Message; string sms = mySMS.Body.ToString(); sms = sms.Substring(8); //Decryption //... //Update the received message and replace it with the decrypted text //!!!HELP!!! } } }

  • Dealing with rapid tapping on Buttons

    - by Eric Burke
    I have a Button with an OnClickListener. For illustrative purposes, consider a button that shows a modal dialog: public class SomeActivity ... { protected void onCreate(Bundle state) { super.onCreate(state); findViewById(R.id.ok_button).setOnClickListener( new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { // This should block input new AlertDialog.Builder(SomeActivity.this) .setCancelable(true) .show(); } }); } Under normal usage, the alert dialog appears and blocks further input. Users must dismiss the dialog before they can tap the button again. But sometimes the button's OnClickListener is called twice before the dialog appears. You can duplicate this fairly easily by tapping really fast on the button. I generally have to try several times before it happens, but sooner or later I'll trigger multiple onClick(...) calls before the dialog blocks input. I see this behavior in Android 2.1 on the Motorola Droid phone. We've received 4 crash reports in the Market, indicating this occasionally happens to people. Depending on what our OnClickListeners do, this causes all sorts of havoc. How can we guarantee that blocking dialogs actually block input after the first tap?

  • How to display panels with component in frame

  • Why does GCC need extra declarations in templates when VS does not?

    - by Kyle
    template<typename T> class Base { protected: Base() {} T& get() { return t; } T t; }; template<typename T> class Derived : public Base<T> { public: Base<T>::get; // Line A Base<T>::t; // Line B void foo() { t = 4; get(); } }; int main() { return 0; } If I comment out lines A and B, this code compiles fine under Visual Studio 2008. Yet when I compile under GCC 4.1 with lines A and B commented, I get these errors: In member function ‘void TemplateDerived::foo()’: error: ‘t’ was not declared in this scope error: there are no arguments to ‘get’ that depend on a template parameter, so a declaration of ‘get’ must be available Why would one compiler require lines A and B while the other doesn't? Is there a way to simplify this? In other words, if derived classes use 20 things from the base class, I have to put 20 lines of declarations for every class deriving from Base! Is there a way around this that doesn't require so many declarations?

  • How to solve this problem with lists?

    - by osabri
    what i don't understand in my task here what kind of list i can use, and if it should have 2 attributes key and value ? or only value? with pointers to another node ofc the task: "design a function which create a list using input from the keyboard _ the prefered solution. Assume that some magic stops the input; so the length of a list is not known in advance.(alternative solution: a function which creates explicitly a fixed list. However, all other function can not assume any knowledge about the length of lists). Necessary utilities( additional functions to be created): a function which deallocates the memory used for lists and a function which prints the content of the list. let the element of lists contain a letter. Design a function which create a copy of such list. can't also understand the list line !!!!!???

  • Dependency Properties, change notification and setting values in the constructor

    - by stefan.at.wpf
    Hello, I have a clas with 3 dependency properties A,B,C. The values of these properties are set by the constructor and every time one of the properties A, B or C changes, the method recalculate() is called. Now during execution of the constructor these method is called 3 times, because the 3 properties A, B, C are changed. Hoewever this isn't necessary as the method recalculate() can't do anything really useful without all 3 properties set. So what's the best way for property change notification but circumventing this change notification in the constructor? I thought about adding the property changed notification in the constructor, but then each object of the DPChangeSample class would always add more and more change notifications. Thanks for any hint! class DPChangeSample : DependencyObject { public static DependencyProperty AProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("A", typeof(int), typeof(DPChangeSample), new PropertyMetadata(propertyChanged)); public static DependencyProperty BProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("B", typeof(int), typeof(DPChangeSample), new PropertyMetadata(propertyChanged)); public static DependencyProperty CProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("C", typeof(int), typeof(DPChangeSample), new PropertyMetadata(propertyChanged)); private static void propertyChanged(DependencyObject d, DependencyPropertyChangedEventArgs e) { ((DPChangeSample)d).recalculate(); } private void recalculate() { // Using A, B, C do some cpu intensive caluclations } public DPChangeSample(int a, int b, int c) { SetValue(AProperty, a); SetValue(BProperty, b); SetValue(CProperty, c); } }

  • pointer in c and the c program

    - by sandy101
    Hello, I am studying the pointer and i come to this program .... #include <stdio.h> void swap(int *,int *); int main() { int a=10; int b=20; swap(&a,&b); printf("the value is %d and %d",a,b); return 0; } void swap(int *a,int*b) { int t; t=*a; *a=*b; *b=t; printf("%d and%d\n",*a,*b); } can any one tell me why this main function return the value reversed . The thing i understood till now is that the function call in c does not affect the main function and it's values . I also want to know how much the space a pointer variable occupied like integer have occupied the 2 bytes and the various application use and advantages of the pointer .... plz.... anyone help

  • MAAttachedWindow hide

    - by Montecorte
    I had the same problem that The-Kenny at this post but I fixed it adding the windowDidResignKey: method on the MAAttachedWindow.m, but now my problem is that when I click outside the StatusBar item keeps blue background and when I click another time on the status item it goes normally and I have to click a second time on it to show the window. I tried to add a method in the CustomView (the view of the status item) that do the same thing that te mouseDown method: - (void)mouseDown:(NSEvent *)event { NSRect frame = [[self window] frame]; NSPoint pt = NSMakePoint(NSMidX(frame), NSMidY(frame)); NSLog(@"%g,%g",pt.x,pt.y); clicked = !clicked; [controller toggleAttachedWindowAtPoint:pt]; [self setNeedsDisplay:YES];} my method is: - (void)windowDidResignKey { NSLog(@"Resigned"); NSRect frame = [[self window] frame]; NSPoint pt = NSMakePoint(NSMidX(frame), NSMidY(frame)); NSLog(@"%g,%g",pt.x,pt.y); clicked = !clicked; [controller toggleAttachedWindowAtPoint:pt]; [self setNeedsDisplay:YES];} I call this method in the windowDidResignKey that I have defined on MAAttachedWindow.m, but this method dont call correctly the toggleAttachedWindowAtPoint method, I dont know exactly why, it's only called when I click another time over the status item If anybody knows how to do that any help would be fine. Thank you so much :)

  • What does this structure actually do?

    - by LGTrader
    I found this structure code in a Julia Set example from a book on CUDA. I'm a newbie C programmer and cannot get my head around what it's doing, nor have I found the right thing to read on the web to clear it up. Here's the structure: struct cuComplex { float r; float i; cuComplex( float a, float b ) : r(a), i(b) {} float magnitude2( void ) { return r * r + i * i; } cuComplex operator*(const cuComplex& a) { return cuComplex(r*a.r - i*a.i, i*a.r + r*a.i); } cuComplex operator+(const cuComplex& a) { return cuComplex(r+a.r, i+a.i); } }; and it's called very simply like this: cuComplex c(-0.8, 0.156); cuComplex a(jx, jy); int i = 0; for (i=0; i<200; i++) { a = a * a + c; if (a.magnitude2() > 1000) return 0; } return 1; So, the code did what? Defined something of structure type 'cuComplex' giving the real and imaginary parts of a number. (-0.8 & 0.156) What is getting returned? (Or placed in the structure?) How do I work through the logic of the operator stuff in the struct to understand what is actually calculated and held there? I think that it's probably doing recursive calls back into the stucture float magnitude2 (void) { return return r * r + i * i; } probably calls the '*' operator for r and again for i, and then the results of those two operations call the '+' operator? Is this correct and what gets returned at each step? Just plain confused. Thanks!

  • Hang during databinding of large amount of data to WPF DataGrid

    - by nihi_l_ist
    Im using WPFToolkit datagrid control and do the binding in such way: <WpfToolkit:DataGrid x:Name="dgGeneral" SelectionMode="Single" SelectionUnit="FullRow" AutoGenerateColumns="False" CanUserAddRows="False" CanUserDeleteRows="False" Grid.Row="1" ItemsSource="{Binding Path=Conversations}" > public List<CONVERSATION> Conversations { get { return conversations; } set { if (conversations != value) { conversations = value; NotifyPropertyChanged("Conversations"); } } } public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged; public void NotifyPropertyChanged(string propertyName) { if (PropertyChanged != null) { PropertyChanged(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs(propertyName)); } } public void GenerateData() { BackgroundWorker bw = new BackgroundWorker(); bw.WorkerSupportsCancellation = bw.WorkerReportsProgress = true; List<CONVERSATION> list = new List<CONVERSATION>(); bw.DoWork += delegate { list = RefreshGeneralData(); }; bw.RunWorkerCompleted += delegate { try { Conversations = list; } catch (Exception ex) { CustomException.ExceptionLogCustomMessage(ex); } }; bw.RunWorkerAsync(); } And than in the main window i call GenerateData() after setting DataCotext of the window to instance of the class, containing GenerateData(). RefreshGeneralData() returns some list of data i want and it returns it fast. Overall there are near 2000 records and 6 columns(im not posting the code i used during grid's initialization, because i dont think it can be the reason) and the grid hangs for almost 10 secs!

  • iOS: click counter for row in tableview

    - by roger.arliner21
    I am developing and tableView in which in each row I have to display the click counter and row number.Each cell must have an initial click counter value of 0 when application is initialized. Then increment the click counter value within a cell whenever a user clicks on the cell. I have take 26 fixed rows. I have taken tableData.plist file as in the attached image. I am initializing the self.dataArray with the plist . Now I want to do implementation in the didSelectRowAtIndexPath delegate method,if any row is tapped that row's click counter should increment. - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"tableData" ofType:@"plist"]; self.dataArray = [NSMutableArray arrayWithContentsOfFile:path];//array initialized with plist } - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section { return [self.dataArray count]; } - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *kCustomCellID = @"MyCellID"; UILabel *label1 = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(160.0f, 2.0f, 30.0f, 20.0f)]; UILabel *label2 = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(160.0f, 24.0f, 30.0f, 30.0f)]; label2.textColor = [UIColor grayColor]; UITableViewCell *cell = (UITableViewCell *)[tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:kCustomCellID]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleSubtitle reuseIdentifier:kCustomCellID] autorelease]; cell.selectionStyle = UITableViewCellSelectionStyleNone; } if([self.dataArray count]>indexPath.row) { label1.text = [[self.dataArray objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] objectForKey:@"Lable1"]; label2.text =[[self.dataArray objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] objectForKey:@"Lable2"]; } else { label1.text = @""; label2.text =@""; } [cell.contentView addSubview:label1]; [cell.contentView addSubview:label2]; [label1 release]; [label2 release]; return cell; } #pragma mark - #pragma mark Table view delegate - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { //implementation for row counter incrementer. }

  • Access Controller Context/ TempData from business objects

    - by thanikkal
    I am trying to build a session/tempdata provider that can be swapped. The default provider will work on top of asp.net mvc and it needed to access the .net mvc TempData from the business object class. I know the tempdata is available through the controller context, but i cant seem to find if that is exposed through HttpContext or something. I dont really want to pass the Controller context as an argument as that would dilute my interface definition since only asp.net based session provider needs this, other (using NoSQL DB etc) doesn't care about Controller Context. To clarify further, adding little more code here. my ISession interface look like this. and when this code goes to production, the session/tempdata is expected to work using NoSql db. But i also like to have another implementation that works on top of asp.net mvc session/tempdata for my dev testing etc. public interface ISession { T GetTempData<T>(string key); void PutTempData<T>(string key, T value); T GetSessiondata<T>(string key); void PutSessiondata<T>(string key, T value); }

  • Why is PLINQ slower than LINQ for this code?

  • Cant insert a object into a silverlight databound combo box

    - by Steve
    Hi Until recently I had a combo box that was bound to a Linq queried IEnumerable of a DataService.Obj type in the bind method, and all worked fine private IEnumerable<DataService.Obj> _GeneralList; private IEnumerable<DataService.Obj> _QueriedList; private void Bind() { _GeneralList = SharedLists.GeneralList; _QueriedList = _GeneralList.Where(q =>q.ID >1000); cmbobox.ItemsSource = _QueriedList; } Then I had to change the method to insert a new obj and set that object as the default obj and now I get a "System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object" exception. I know this has to do with inserting into a linq queried ienumerable but I cant fix it. Any help will be gratefully received. private IEnumerable<DataService.Obj> _GeneralList; private IEnumerable<DataService.Obj> _QueriedList; private void Bind() { _GeneralList = SharedLists.GeneralList; _QueriedList = _GeneralList.Where(q =>q.ID >1000); cmbobox.ItemsSource = _QueriedList; DataService.Obj info = new DataService.Obj(); info.ID = "0"; (cmbobox.ItemsSource as ObservableCollection<DataService.Obj>).Insert(0,info); cmbobox.SelectedIndex = 0; } Thanks in advance

  • Combining Multiple SVG Transformations

    - by Andi
    I'm new to Snap.svg and SVG and experimenting with transformations (an illustraiting plunk can be found here). Basically I'm trying to move, scale and rotate a shape according to its configuration. This is what I've found out so far: rotating around a point is possible with rotate(angle, x, y) there is no direct transform method to scale around a point but it can be done as described in "SVG Essentials" However combining these transforms doesn't give me the expected result - my expected calculated center of the shape differs from the rendered one. Can anyone give me some pointers on how to correctly put these transforms together? Regards, Andi

  • Android: How to put ListView in XML?

    - by FloIancu
    I want to make a simple app that shows a list of contacts (name, surname). My code: package lista.android; import java.util.*; import android.app.ListActivity; import android.os.Bundle; import android.widget.*; class Contact{ String nume; String prenume; Contact(String nume, String prenume){ this.nume=nume; this.prenume=prenume; } public String toString(){ return prenume +" "+ nume; } } public class Lista1Activity extends ListActivity { /** Called when the activity is first created. */ ArrayList <Contact> lista; ArrayAdapter <Contact> adaptor; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); setListAdapter(adaptor); lista=new ArrayList<Contact>(); adaptor=new ArrayAdapter<Contact>(this, R.id.element, lista); adaugaContact("Florian", "Iancu"); adaugaContact("Ioana", "Constantina"); } public void adaugaContact(String nume, String prenume){ lista.add(new Contact(nume, prenume)); adaptor.notifyDataSetChanged(); } } In the XML I have the LinearLayout and a TextView that is the list element. When I run it, the simulator says "Sorry, the application [...] has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." The LogCat tells me I have to have a ListView whose id is android.R.id.lista. If I create a random ListView field in the XML file and give it the "lista" id, it still doesn't work. How to I call that ListView from XML to match something in my Java code? In other words, I know I'm wrong, but where and how do I fix it?

  • What is wrong with locking non-static fields? What is the correct way to lock a particular instance?

    - by smartcaveman
    Why is it considered bad practice to lock non-static fields? And, if I am not locking non-static fields, then how do I lock an instance method without locking the method on all other instances of the same or derived class? I wrote an example to make my question more clear. public abstract class BaseClass { private readonly object NonStaticLockObject = new object(); private static readonly object StaticLockObject = new object(); protected void DoThreadSafeAction<T>(Action<T> action) where T: BaseClass { var derived = this as T; if(derived == null) { throw new Exception(); } lock(NonStaticLockObject) { action(derived); } } } public class DerivedClass :BaseClass { private readonly Queue<object> _queue; public void Enqueue(object obj) { DoThreadSafeAction<DerivedClass>(x=>x._queue.Enqueue(obj)); } } If I make the lock on the StaticLockObject, then the DoThreadSafeAction method will be locked for all instances of all classes that derive from BaseClass and that is not what I want. I want to make sure that no other threads can call a method on a particular instance of an object while it is locked.

CODE: #include <iostream> #define PRINT_TRACE(STR) \ std::cout << __FILE__ << ":" << __LINE__ << ":" << STR << "\n"; template<size_t SZ> void LoopThrough(const int(&Item)[SZ]) { PRINT_TRACE("Specialized version"); for (size_t index = 0; index < SZ; ++index) { std::cout << Item[index] << "\n"; } } /* template<typename Type, size_t SZ> void LoopThrough(const Type(&Item)[SZ]) { PRINT_TRACE("Generic version"); } */ int main() { { int arr[] = { 1, 2 }; LoopThrough(arr); } } If I uncomment the code with Generic version, the code compiles fine and the generic version is called. I don't see this problem with MSVC 2010 with extensions disabled and the same case with ideone here. The specialized version of the function is called. Now the question is, is this a bug in Sun Compiler ? If yes, how could we file a bug report ?

  • NullPointerException on Activity Testing Tutorial

    - by Bendik
    Hello, I am currently trying the activity testing tutorial (Found here), and have a problem. It seems that whenever I try to call something inside the UIThread, I get a java.lang.NullPointerException. public void testSpinnerUI() { mActivity.runOnUiThread( new Runnable() { public void run() { mSpinner.requestFocus(); } }); } This gives me: Incomplete: java.lang.NullPointerException and nothing else. I have tried this on two different samples now, with the same result. I tried with a try/catch clause around the mSpinner.requestFocus() call, and it seems that mSpinner is null inside the thread. I have set it properly up with the setUp() function found in the same sample, and a quick assertNotNull( mSpinner ) shows me that mSpinner is in fact not null after the setUp() function. What can be the cause of this? EDIT; ok, some more testing has been done. It seems that the application that is being tested resets between each test. This essentially makes me have to reinstantiate all variables between each test. Is this normal?
